As we head into the slower meeting season, I hope those of us fortunate enough to pause—even briefly—can take the opportunity to reconnect with loved ones and recharge. Part of what makes our work so exciting is also what makes it hardest for those who care about us most.
Personally, it’s not unusual for me to spend two to four weeks on the road at a time, living out of a suitcase, sometimes waking up unsure of what city I’m in—or which direction the bathroom is. I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything in the world, but I’m also keenly aware of the toll it takes on my family.
When I’m home, I do everything I can to soak up every moment with my 7-year-old son. It’s tough every time I walk out that door, but I try to make it up by bringing him to as many events as I can. Thanks to this line of work, he’s already been to more than 20 countries and 25 states.
So this summer, wherever you are—at home or on the road—take time to be present. Savor those moments with the ones who matter most. Fall conference season will be here before we know it.

I plan and manage meetings, symposiums, conferences and incentive retreats for the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS). AMDIS was founded in 1997 and will be holding their 34th annual symposium in 2025. These meetings are mainly for Physicians,
CIO’s, CMIO’s, Healthcare Executives, Nurses and Clinicians. I also work on other events which include Golf Tournaments and Golf Clinics. As an event planner I am always referring business from industry colleagues to destinations and hotels and currently on the Branson Customer Advisory Board.
