Features of the Programme

• Designed to pace and repeat the information students receive by placing the student at the centre of the induction process.

• Explores expectations schools have for students and lays the foundations for students’ success from day one.

• Each unit begins with specific learning intentions, and connects with the Junior Cycle Wellbeing Indicators, Key Skills and Statements of Learning.

• Interactive and student centric, with opportunities for student reflection through guided activities and class discussions that address students’ anxieties and concerns.

Delivering the Programme in Your School

• The programme is broken down into 12 units that are designed to deliver 24 hours of induction.

• This can be taken out of the 400 hours of wellbeing for JC students.

• Each unit takes approximately 2 hours to deliver. This can be completed in one class or broken down into two 1-hour classes or three 40-minute classes.

• The teacher manual outlines everything that is required to deliver a unit of learning and is structured in such a way that any member of staff could deliver the programme.

• It was designed with flexibility in mind, allowing schools to plan the delivery of the programme in a format that suits their school’s needs.

Digital Media Literacy for Secondary Students

Following the specification of the Junior Cycle 100-hour short course on Digital Media Literacy, this programme integrates print and digital media by incorporating videos and QR codes to maximise student engagement.

The programme consists of a workbook with QR codes to access student-friendly activities and a comprehensive teacher manual to support delivery of the programme.

The course aims to deepen a student’s ability to use digital technology, communication tools and the internet in a creative, critical, and safe manner.

Delivering the programme in your school

• The programme fulfils the Junior Cycle specification for the Digital Media Literacy short course.

• The intention of the programme is to deliver a 100-hour digital media course.

• Each unit takes approximately 20 hours to deliver.

• The 100 hours can be completed over the three years of the JC, or as 1 hour per week in first year and 2 hours per week in second year, freeing up more time for exams in third year.
