Put forth by Ward 6 Councillor Mark Grimes at Tuesday’s meeting of Etobicoke York Community Council (EYCC), the motion calls

TAMARA SHEPHARD tshephard@insidetoronto.com A hydraulic lift infamous for raising exotic dancers to the stage is now officially retired, replaced by another lift, elevating the lives of food bank clients. Etobicoke charity Haven on the Queensway unveiled its new 400-pound capacity metal lift Tuesday morning. Volunteers use the lift – as they did with its predecessor
– to transport truck-delivered donations ranging from canned fish to cereal to diapers from Haven’s main floor to its basement. There, volunteers sort, then chill or shelve it. Every Wednesday, a team of volunteers employed the previous, well-worn lift to fill and transport one food order at a time for an average 400 food bank clients. a new kind of spinning: DJ BraVadoln (a.k.a Kwame Marle) spins tunes for Toronto Community Housing Corporation’s (TCHC) Game Day in the Park at 44 Willowridge Rd. Saturday afternoon. The one-day event was led by resident Justice Achampong in an effort to engage youth in active living activities like soccer, volleyball, yoga, drum circles and African dance. TCHC has awarded 19 young people living in its residences with grants of up to $2,500 through the 2015 Youth Action Grants Youth Leadership Project. See more photos page 40.
