Town hall draws crowds to discuss Rexdale shootings This year, 11 confirmed shootings or firearm discharges: superintendent CYNTHIA REASON creason@insidetoronto.com In 2012, there were 36 confirmed shootings in north Etobicoke in which 17 people were gunned down – two of them fatally. And if the “alarming” gun violence statistics from the first three months of the new year are any indication, 2013 is on track to be equally bloody. “So far this year, there have been 11 confirmed shootings or firearm discharges and nine people have been shot, one of which died,” Supt. Ron
Taverner, unit commander of north Etobicoke’s 23 Division, told residents this week at a town hall meeting on gun violence. “Obviously those are very, very alarming statistics that we’re talking about...Those are the things that we as a community – as police, as social agencies, as residents, as business people – those are the things that we have to approach and deal with and find some answers to. to Faith Cross. In celebration of the Toronto Catholic Distr ict School Board’s (TCDSB) Year of Faith this year, the Witness to Faith Cross – a six-foot wooden cross created by students from Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary School – has been journeying across the board visiting various schools.
