EarlyYearsandCareerBeginnings

Dr.GregMosier’spathtobecomingaleaderin educationbeganlongbeforehesteppedintothe classroom.Originally,heworkedasadefense contractor,arolethatdemandedprecisionandakeen eyefordetail.Inthoseearlyyears,hewasinvolved withorganizationssuchasNASA,Rockwell International,andTechnologiesInternational.Hiswork inthedefensefieldrequiredhimtomeasuresuccessin nanometersandmilliseconds,instillinginhimarespect foraccuracyandhardwork.Eventhen,hewasdriven byadesiretocontributemeaningfullytosociety.

Aftergainingvaluableexperienceintheprivatesector, Dr.Mosierfeltapulltowardhighereducation.Hesaw anopportunitytosharehisexpertisewithfuture

workforceprofessionalsanddecidedtotransition intoacademiain1992.Themovefromdefense contractingtoeducationwasnotaneasyone,butit wasanaturalstepforsomeonewhobelievedinthe powerofknowledge.Dr.Mosier’searlyyearsin educationweremarkedbyacommitmentto innovationandcollaboration.Hequicklybecame knownforhiswillingnesstoworkwithothersto createnewinnovativeprogramsandexpand existingones.Hisworkatvariousinstitutions, includingcommunitycollegesanduniversities, laidthefoundationforacareerfocusedon improvingeducationandbuildingstrong communityties.

Dr.Mosier’sdeterminationduringtheseearly yearslaidasolidfoundationforhislatersuccesses. Hispassionforeducationgrewasherealizedthat everynewprogramandcollaborativeeffortcould changelives.Theselessonsfueledhiscommitment tolifelonglearningandcommunityservice.

TransitiontoHigherEducationandEarlyLeadership

Afterleavingthedefensesector,Dr.Mosierembarkedona newjourneyinhighereducationin1992.Hisdecisionto switchcareerswasdrivenbyastrongdesiretogiveback andmentorthenextgenerationofprofessionals.In steppingintoacademia,hebroughtwithhimawealthof real-worldexperiencethatenrichedhisteachingand leadership.Hesaweducationasawaytoempower studentsanddrivepositivechangeincommunities.With hisbackgroundindefenseandtechnology,Dr.Mosierwas uniquelypositionedtobridgethegapbetweentechnical expertiseandpractical,hands-onlearning.

Hisearlyrolesinhighereducationtookhimtoseveral institutions,wherehequicklymadeanameforhimselfas aninnovator.AtOklahomaStateUniversityInstituteof Technology,asvicepresidentofacademicaffairs,he workedcloselywithover400nationalandinternational companies.Hiseffortshelpeddesignprogramsthatwere sponsoredandsupportedbythebusinesssector,ensuring

studentsgainedtheskillsneededtobesuccessfulin today’sworkforce.Later,asexecutivevicepresidentat RochesterCommunityandTechnicalCollegein Rochester,Minnesota,hefurtherhonedhisleadership skillsandhisvisionforeducation.

Dr.MosieralsoservedasdeanatMoberlyArea CommunityCollegeinMissouri.There,heservedona gubernatorialbusinessattractionteamthatsuccessfully recruitedIBMandtheInformationTechnologyGlobal DeliveryCentertoColumbia,MO,whichaddedover 600newjobstothelocalcommunity.This achievementunderscoredhisbeliefthateducationand industrymustworkhandinhandtocreateaprosperous future.Throughoutthisperiod,Dr.Mosierremained dedicatedtohismission:totransformeducation throughcollaboration,innovation,andacommitment tocommunityservice.Hisearlyleadershiproles ignitedhispassionforintegratingindustryexpertise withacademicprograms,settingaclearvisionfor futureinnovationineducation.

KeyInitiativesatKansasCityKansasCommunityCollege

SincehisappointmentasPresidentofKansasCityKansas CommunityCollegeinJune2018,Dr.Mosierhasledtheinstitution withaclearfocusonstudentsuccess,workforcedevelopment,and communityengagement.Oneofhisfirstandmostambitiousprojects wasthecreationofanewcenterintheurbancoreofKansasCity, Kansas.Withavisiontoprovidemuch-needededucational opportunities,this$75millioncenterisdesignedtoserveasa nationalmodelforpublic-privatepartnerships.Throughavigorous capitalcampaign,thecollegehasraisedover$66milliontowardthis project.Thiscenterwillnotonlyofferholisticeducationbutwillalso providearangeofsupportservicesthataddressthechallengesfaced byurbancommunities.

Understandingthechallengesofahousingdesert,Dr.Mosieralso spearheadedthedevelopmentofCentennialHall,thecollege’sfirst studenthousingcomplex.With260beds,CentennialHallisastateof-the-artfacilitythatoffersaffordablelivingoptionsforcommunity collegestudents,whooftenstruggletofindnearbyhousing.This initiativeisatestamenttohiscommitmenttobreakingdownbarriers toeducationandensuringthatallstudentshavethesupporttheyneed tosucceed.

AnothersignificantpriorityunderDr.Mosier’sleadershiphasbeen theimplementationofcollege-creditRegisteredApprenticeship Programs.Recognizingtheneedforhands-on,practicaltrainingthat directlytiesintoemployment,hehasforgedpartnershipswithleading companiessuchasPanasonicEnergyCorporationofNorthAmerica, MarvinWindows,andOrangeEV Theseprogramsallowstudentsto earncollegecreditswhilegainingvaluableon-the-jobexperience, withtheaddedbenefitofbeingpaidbytheirsponsoringemployers whilegoingtoschool.Byaligningeducationalprogramswith industryneeds,Dr.Mosierhasmadeaprofoundimpactonthe regionalworkforce.

Underhisguidance,KCKCChasalsoexpandeditsacademic offeringstomeetthediverseneedsofthecommunity.Celebratingits Centennialin2023,thecollegeservesmorethan8,000studentseach yearthroughover70programs.Fromassociatedegreesdesignedfor transfertotechnicalcertificatesthatpreparestudentstoenterthe workforceimmediately,theinstitutioniscommittedtoempowering individualswiththeskillstheyneedtothrivetodayandinthefuture.

Public-PrivatePartnershipsandRegionalWorkforce

Dr.Mosierbelievesthatpublic-privatepartnershipsarevitalfor thesuccessofcommunitycolleges.Underhisleadership,KCKCC hasembracedamodelwhereindustryandeducationshare responsibilityforbuildingaskilledworkforce.Aprimeexampleis thenewKansasCityKansasCommunityEducation,Healthand WellnessCenter.Thisinnovativefacility,atruecollaboration betweenthecollege,SwopeHealth,andCommunityAmerica CreditUnion,bringstogethereducationalservicesandcommunity supportinonelocation.Designedtobreakthecycleof generationalpoverty,thecenteroffersholisticservicestothosein theurbancore.Constructionisalreadyunderway,withatarget completioninspring2026andclassessettobegininfall2026.

Multi-InstitutionCollaborationsand FosteringInclusion

Dr.Mosierhasalsopioneerededucationalfundingmodelsthat shiftthecostoflearningfromstudentstoindustrypartners. Throughthesemodels,companieshelppayforthetrainingtheir futureworkforceneeds,ensuringthatstudentsreceiveaquality educationwithouttheburdenofhighcosts.Programslikethe college-creditRegisteredApprenticeshipandtheSkilled MaintenanceTechnicianApprenticeshipwithPanasonicEnergy CorporationofNorthAmericaexemplifythisapproach.By workingcloselywithbusinesses,KCKCCismeetingcritical regionalworkforceneedswhileofferingstudentsapathwayto high-demand,high-wagecareers.
