God’s love and faithfulness at work in schools: Willowridge High School

“Holiday Club already? Did I hear you correctly?”

“I have so much hope for our younger generations. God is definitely moving in our schools. Here is a story of God’s faithfulness in one boy’s life:

This last Sunday, 24 creative Holiday Club enthusiasts gathered to begin planning ideas around next year’s Holiday Club programme. Yes, it seems early, but there is a lot to do – curriculum to write, songs to compose, material to print, packages to send to other churches, dramas to record and we are already gearing up for all this.

We are not allowed to preach the name of Jesus out loud in our schools (unless asked about Him.) I have a small chalkboard in my classroom that I use for daily encouragement for the learners and on one particular day I wrote the phrase “I Am Second.” Many children asked what that meant and I told them to look it up. About a week later, a boy in grade 9 came to my class with tears in his eyes, grasping onto a piece of paper. Astonished, as one is when a teenage boy cries, I asked him what was wrong. What he proceeded to tell me flawed me as I heard a story of God’s faithfulness. He told me that he had been feeling lost in his life and far from the Lord. He was at a cross roads in his life and he asked God for a sign to reassure him that God was still with him. After reading the chalkboard sign, he decided to research the meaning of the phrase. He came to my class with two A4 pages of notes on what “I Am Second” means and how the Lord had reminded him of His love and faithfulness. He recommitted his life to the Lord and started a small group who pray for their friends and for the school. This is only one story of they ways in which God is working through the teens in our community and schools. God is faithful. Jesus is alive.” -Melissa Labuschagne

In 2014 we’re going to zoom into the book of Acts looking at different truths like “One body, one purpose” and “The Good News is for everyone” and “God has a plan for you.” Watch out for updates as we go along and pray with us for wisdom in putting together a fun, impacting, God-glorifying holiday programme.
