DWIGHT SCHOOLS GLOBAL CONCERT - FEBRUARY 20, 2025 | 1

Welcome

Good evening and welcome to “In Our Wildest Dreams!” In this, our 25th year of celebrating global music collaboration, the Dwight family of schools is especially proud to be together on one stage at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall. Over 150 students have put in countless hours of practice and collaboration in preparation for this evening’s performance. During this week’s final rehearsals in New York — with everyone together in one location — the talent, character, teamwork, and passion displayed by students have already made this uniquely Dwight experience a singular success.

Tonight’s theme, first and foremost, serves as a reminder of just how special this worldwide music event is. As we return to one of New York City’s premiere music venues, and come together as an ever-growing Dwight School community, we hope that everyone involved in this evening’s performance — on stage and off — takes a quiet moment to acknowledge that this genre-melding, multinational, collaborative music event is quite literally an evening we can only imagine “In Our Wildest Dreams.”

Throughout tonight’s concert, you will hear individual and small group performances by students from various schools, and multiple small- and large-scale collaborative crosscampus performances rehearsed for the first time this week. The magnitude of the variety of music styles, instruments, techniques, and skills is vast. The opportunity to experience this level of cultural and musical exchange is unique to our global community, and everyone can be proud to be part of such a vibrant and harmonious family.

Over the past week, students who have performed together in previous Global Concerts have reconnected, while those who are new to this special experience have met and quickly forged friendships through a shared love of music — and all have rehearsed extensively to put the finishing touches on tonight’s concert.

The Dwight family would like to officially welcome Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School back to New York City, traveling here for the first time since before the pandemic. We would also like to officially welcome students and faculty from our newest school, Dwight School Hanoi, as they make their debut at this enriching global concert experience. We look forward to building a long-standing collaboration with the arts faculty and leadership at Dwight School Hanoi.

As our Dwight Schools community continues to grow, so does our need to reshape our Global Concert format and flow. This evening, the first half of the concert will feature soloists, duets, and small groups from students across our global network. Following a brief intermission, the majority of the second half of our concert will feature multiple combined ensembles (jazz/rock, choir, and orchestra) before our culminating all-combined finale. These collaborative performances from students across all campuses, coupled with their experiences during rehearsal week (from music rehearsals, to seeing a Broadway show, to taking part in master classes with NYC professionals, and beyond) make this concert the finale of an amazing week of fun and educational experiences.

On behalf of all our music departments, we want to congratulate our talented students — and thank you, Dwight families and friends, for your ongoing support. Cheers to the first 25 Dwight Schools Global Concerts — and here’s to the next 25!

Enjoy the show!

About Our Schools and Music Departments

DWIGHT NEW YORK

Chancellor Stephen Spahn, Vice Chancellor Blake Spahn, Head of School Dianne Drew | Music Faculty: Eric Novod, Michael Ferrari, Vita Zambetti, Emma Mooradian, Clayton Rychlik

Our music program, like all other elements of the arts at Dwight, is very busy year-round, supporting the needs of our talented musicians and actors. It is an exciting time, as our existing programs continue to grow and new ones are developed so that students can learn and share their gifts with our community. Alongside a robust IB curricular program, our extracurricular opportunities are inclusive, designed to encompass students of all ages, and differentiated to maximize the potential of every musician. Our ensembles are three-tiered: departmentled by full-time Dwight faculty; Conservatory-led by our team of committed instrumental and voice teachers; and student-led, offering students the chance to lead younger, less experienced peers. Ensembles include a choir, pop/rock bands, jazz combo; and strings, woodwinds, and percussion chamber music ensembles. The program also focuses on the creative pursuit of original composition and songwriting, highlighted by the launch of an educational, student-run record label, 566 Records. Within this program, students can write music, collaborate with peers, record their music in our recording studio, and release it to family, friends, and

beyond. When these accomplishments in New York are combined with those on Dwight campuses around the world, we embody the true spirit of global vision. We are delighted to appear at Jazz at Lincoln Center with our fellow members of the Dwight global family for this very special concert!

DWIGHT LONDON

Head of School Chris Beddows | Music Faculty: Richard Deng and Jan Kraft

For over 50 years, Dwight School London has fostered a vibrant, innovative, and inclusive music department at the heart of the School’s artistic life, inspiring enthusiastic and talented students across all year groups. From our Little Lions Nursery (age 2) to the IB Diploma Program, music is one of the cornerstones of the curriculum. Our dedicated team of music educators, including specialist peripatetic teachers, offer individual instruction in a diverse range of instruments, from percussion to strings. We are also proud to run a thriving conservatory program, widely embraced by students across the school, including a Saturday Music Conservatory.

Our music department embraces repertoire spanning from the Baroque period to contemporary compositions, ensuring a rich and diverse musical education. We are

committed to cultivating a robust and forward-thinking approach to music teaching. Each October, we proudly host the Dwight School ChoirFest, bringing together our sister schools and local institutions in a celebration of choral excellence. Our annual winter and summer concerts are cherished highlights of the school calendar, enjoyed by both students and parents. Additionally, we organize three dedicated Saturday recitals each year, offering students more opportunities to showcase their musical talents.

Our instrumental program is designed to provide high-quality music education, supported by a wealth of extracurricular ensembles, including choirs, orchestras, rock bands, pop bands, and jazz bands. These ensembles not only refine musical skills, but also foster collaboration, creativity, and cultural exchange. We are proud to be part of a global Dwight community, embracing cross-campus collaborations and celebrating the extraordinary talent within our network.

DWIGHT SEOUL

Head

of School Tom Ferguson | Music Faculty: Dennis Lee

At Dwight Seoul, music is more than an art — it’s a universal language that connects our students to the world. Our Performing and Applied Arts faculty have built a premier IB Arts Program in Korea, spanning all three IB programs and offering specialized courses in film, media, music, and theater. From orchestra and jazz ensembles to bands and choirs, our students embrace every opportunity to perform, whether on campus, at international festivals, or alongside peers from our global network of Dwight Schools.

Our students enthusiastically participate in a variety of prestigious musical events, including London ChoirFest, where they experience firsthand how music transcends

borders and cultures. They also took center stage when Dwight Seoul proudly hosted the 2022 Global Music Concert, “Souls in Harmony,” at Lotte Concert Hall. More recently, Lower and Upper School students took the stage in “Spotlight: A Night of Musical Theater,” delivering show-stopping performances to a full-house audience. Building on that momentum, our Upper School students are currently rehearsing Romeo and Juliet: Clash of Cliques, a bold reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic set in a modern-day high school. With a track record of excellence in KIMEA, AMIS, and ISTA competitions, as well as performances at charity and corporate events in Seoul, Dwight Seoul continues to provide students with engaging, contemporary opportunities to shine.

Returning to Jazz at Lincoln Center for another extraordinary global music concert, Dwight Seoul is honored to share our passion for performance on this world-renowned stage. Music unites us, and we are excited to be part of this inspiring celebration once again.

SHANGHAI QIBAO DWIGHT

Chairman of the Board Qiu Zhonghai, Principal Wang Fang, American Principal Robbie Shields | Music Faculty: Gourav Biswas

Our music program supports and celebrates the best of both Eastern and Western musical traditions. As an IB DP high school (grades 10-12), many of our talented students are award-winning musicians prior to their arrival on campus. Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School (QD) is home to a variety of music-focused clubs and organizations, such as the GLOW chamber orchestra, the electronic music production club, the acapella club, the Chinese folk music club, and Queens and Defenders — the QD rock band. Through these and other engagements, and the use of our recording studio with state-of-the-art digital composition software, students of

all abilities and technical proficiency have the opportunity to grow and develop. This growth often continues at university, with many of our students electing to pursue a music-focused degree.

The power of performance is a spirit that QD music faculty and students fully embrace. Throughout the year, our music students maintain a robust performance schedule, ranging from on-campus events such as our annual after-school singing competition, “Never Sing Never,” to global performances with other Dwight Schools, such as the London ChoirFest and the Dwight Schools Global Music Concert. We are excited to once again join this year’s concert in New York City.

DWIGHT DUBAI

Head of School David Hutson | Music Faculty: Bertha Silot, Jillian Fox, Benjamin Baldogo, Patience Musandirire

We are delighted to extend the importance of music at Dwight to Dubai with Dwight’s first school in the Middle East, which opened in 2018. Our students in all grades participate in a robust music program, beginning with the fundamentals of rhythm, singing, and movement before advancing into learning instrumental techniques, participating in our PYP Choir, and joining extracurricular activities, like our Guitar Ensemble for classical guitar

training. Middle and Upper School students are introduced to a range of musical concepts — from samba to blues, and from composition techniques to digital music production — to prepare for their Grade 10 Music EPortfolio. DP Music students study a diverse range of music from around the world, adapt and experiment from their experiences, and perform, compose, and improvise various works. Music technology plays a significant role, and DP students can work in our new recording studio. In partnership with Dubai’s noted Centre for Musical Arts, we have enriched our instrumental lessons. Our music program has grown tremendously, and we are very proud of our achievements. We look forward to showcasing our students’ talents at this evening’s concert!

DWIGHT HANOI

Head of School Brantley Turner | Music Faculty: Emily Bell

At Dwight School Hanoi, music is more than just a subject — it is a language of connection bringing our community together, encouraging individual expression, and expanding cultural understanding. From rehearsals to performances, students collaborate, build confidence, and celebrate diverse traditions through music. As the newest school of the Dwight network, we have embraced opportunities to bring our school together

through shared musical experiences. In just a short time, we have participated in London ChoirFest, hosted two school-wide performances, and, after just two weeks of preparation, delivered a standout performance at the British Chamber of Commerce Fun Run. This evening, we are honored to present a special performance of traditional Vietnamese music, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of our host country while strengthening the cultural exchange within our global network. As our program grows, music will continue to shape meaningful connections, inspire creativity, and broaden our students’ global awareness. Enjoy this evening’s concert — a testament to the passion and dedication of our young musicians!

DWIGHT GLOBAL ONLINE

Head of School Louisa Childs | Music Faculty: Lucas Simone

Dwight Global Online School, our campus in the cloud, is the perfect choice for student musicians, actors, and dancers seeking flexibility to rehearse and perform without sacrificing academic rigor. Dwight Global combines real-time online video conferencing seminars, Oxford-style tutorials, and a college-style schedule to provide students in grades 6-12 with the intimacy of Dwight coupled with flexible scheduling to pursue their passions. Our students, including performers and athletes living in over 35 countries from around the world, can choose an IB, AP, or customized course of study. While they attend classes from anywhere, students also have the opportunity to participate in performing arts programs on campus, as well as in cross-campus collaborations. We are pleased to be part of another Dwight Schools Global Concert and offer our congratulations to all of the performers!

FRANKLIN SCHOOL

Head of School William Campbell

Franklin School is a visionary high school in Jersey City and a proud affiliate of The Dwight Schools, which opened in Fall 2022. Franklin combines worldclass academics with real-world readiness to educate innovators and socially responsible global leaders who will succeed in whatever path they choose. In addition to our core curriculum and applied learning approach, we offer a wide range of AP and honors courses, electives, and micro-courses, enabling students to pursue their academic and career interests. Our Fab Lab is home to design and tech courses, as well as our Franklin Student Ventures incubator, where students can bring their ideas for businesses and nonprofits to fruition, develop entrepreneurial skills, and prepare for the jobs of the future. After school, we offer rich and robust athletic, co-curricular, and club programs that ensure all students can pursue their passions in our state-of-the-art facilities. We’re excited that our students are participating, for the second time, in this cross-campus collaboration and look forward to exciting new musical opportunities for Franklin School students in the future. Congratulations to all of tonight’s talented performers!

A Message From Chancellor Spahn

Today is truly a special moment for me, one that I’m so very grateful to share with you. Twenty-five years ago, the first Global Concert was held, signifying Dwight’s commitment to bringing children from across the globe together in harmony. In the time since, we’ve greatly expanded our network, and now, a much larger, even more diverse group of students convenes to make long-lasting connections, fostering a better future in the process. In the next 25, 50, 100 years, Dwight — through our young artists — will shine even brighter as we continue this beloved tradition of gathering on one stage to raise our voices together.
