Lesser known before fall of the meteor and subsequent formation of the crater, the Tehsil of Lonar has now emerged and developed in due course of time. Evidence shows that, since time immemorial, the presence of water in a region encourages the growth of settlements, occupation & industries, culture & heritage. An explicit example of this is Lonar. Because of the soil & climatic conditions, a settlement rose on the eastern side of the crater. The increase in human activity gave rise to the need for spaces that promoted social gatherings, interactions and discussions, Temples come up that were associated with myths that attempted to explain the existence of the settlement, giving rise to pilgrimage and forming the nucleus of further growth. These are stories worth preserving, by means of documentation is one way to safeguard the unique cultural heritage and history of such places.
In 2019, a group of 27 enthusiastic 3rd & 4th year architecture students from Dr.Balram Hiray College of Architecture did just that
