Who’s Opening and Where Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) plans to open a 45,000 sq.ft. Walmart Market in a former Bruno’s located in Gulf Breeze, FL. The store, which will feature a pharmacy, a liquor store and a seasonal merchandise department, is slated to open during midMarch. The company also plans to open a 120,000 sq.ft. Walmart Supercenter in Fairview, TN. The store will offer groceries and general merchandise, as well as feature a pharmacy, and is slated to open during late 2013. The opening will be the company’s first in the city. The company also plans to open a Walmart store along Main Street in Spring Hill, TN during 2013, and currently operates more than 9,000 locations nationwide and internationally throughout 15 countries, including nearly 3,000 Walmart Supercenter locations and 160 Walmart Market stores. Hot Topic, Inc. (626-839-4681) will open more than 20 Torrid stores nationwide this year. Several of the planned stores will be located in strip centers, as opposed to enclosed malls. The company eventually plans to operate more than 335 locations in the Torrid concept, and trades as Hot Topic at 634 locations and as Torrid at 146 stores nationwide, as well as in Canada and Puerto Rico. Jamba, Inc. (510-596-0100) plans to open between 40 and 50 Jamba Juice locations nationwide, as well as between 10 and 15 shops internationally, during 2012. Planned openings include both corporate-owned and franchised concepts, and some will be in new markets throughout the U.S. Hugo Boss AG (+49 07123 94-0) plans to open 20 Hugo Boss stores nationwide by 2015. The company also plans to double the number of in-store Hugo Boss locations within department stores such as Saks and Bloomingdale’s this year. Kohl’s department store in a former Super Fresh at Northgate Plaza Shopping Center, a 372,000 sq.ft. neighborhood strip center located along Aspen Hill Road in Aspen Hill, MD. The store would join Rite Aid, Michaels and Tuesday Morning at the center. The company currently operates more than 1,060 locations nationwide. Wawa, Inc. (610-358-8000) will open a 5,600 sq.ft. Wawa convenience store with gasoline facilities in a former Bassett Furniture along U.S. Highway 98 North in Lakeland, FL, as part of a plan to open 100 locations throughout the Orlando and Tampa areas. Construction on the store is slated to begin this year with an opening projected for 2013. The company currently operates more than 590 locations throughout DE, MD, NJ, PA and VA. J. C. Penney Co., Inc. (972-431-1000) plans to open a 66,000 sq.ft. JCPenney store in a former Costco at Valley Mall, located off East Washington Avenue in Union Gap, WA. (800-356-9377), through franchisee GB Chocolates, LLC, will open more than 45 stores in the company’s Fannie May Fine Chocolates concept throughout the midwestern region of the U.S. The franchisee, which recently acquired 17 existing stores from the company throughout IA, IL, IN, MI and WI, will open the new locations by the end of 2014. The Fresh Market, Inc. (336-272-1338) plans to open a The Fresh Market grocery store in a former Ultimate Electronics at Bradley Fair, located in Wichita, KS, this year.
