Empowering MLK Day: Engaging in Thoughtful Reflection BY: Victoria A. On MLK Day at FVS, the morning kicked off with underclassmen diving into thought-provoking workshops, while their upperclass counterparts delved into a compelling movie session. The dynamic flipped in the afternoon, with upperclassmen participating in workshops and underclassmen immersing themselves in cinematic reflections. The only student led workshop, titled "MLK'S LEGACY IN EDUCATION AND REDEFINING EDUCATION WITH DR. MUHAMMAD," was lead by SDLC participants Kai Marris'24, Riho Kuroda'24, Jazzel Pease'24 and Victoria Arroyo Aguiar'25. The focus was on honoring Martin Luther King Jr.'s ideals in

education, incorporating Dr. Gholdy Muhammad's groundbreaking insights into reshaping the educational system. During the session, the underclassmen attendees absorbed the impactful words of "Purpose of education" which was an important speech by MLK. They also listened to Dr. Dibinga's poem "Hell," setting the tone for the brainstorming session about FVS' educational future. The discussions centered around improvements needed and essential

topics to be integrated into the curriculum. The overarching message conveyed to younger FVS students was profound – emphasizing that small actions have the power to spark significant change. Acknowledgment and gratitude is extended to the facilitators of this workshop , Sandoval and Ms. Steele, whose indispensable support played a pivotal role in bringing the workshop to life. Frozen Festivities; FVS’ Winter Formal By: Trayee R.

Fountain Valley's recent Winter Formal was an enchanting evening filled with laughter, music, and the joy of the season. The event, inspired by the magical world of "Frozen", transported students into a winter wonderland where memories were made and friendships flourished. From the moment attendees stepped into the transformed venue, they were greeted with twinkling lights, shimmering decorations, and an atmosphere of excitement. The Frozen theme added a touch of

whimsy and charm, turning the dance floor into a scene straight out of Arendelle. As the music filled the air, students jumped and spun to the beats, letting loose and enjoying the carefree spirit of the night. From slow songs to upbeat tunes, the playlist catered to all tastes, ensuring that everyone had a chance to dance the night away. Despite the Winter Formal being held in the old gymnasium, the ambiance was transformed with creative decorations that perfectly captured the

Frozen theme. Moreover, the Winter Formal provided an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and style through their attire. Dazzling dresses and sharp suits filled the room, adding to the elegance and charm of the event. But beyond the glitz and glamour, what truly made the Winter Formal special was the sense of camaraderie and friendship that permeated throughout the night. As friends gathered on the dance floor and laughter filled the air, bonds were strengthened, and memories were forged that will last a lifetime. In essence, Fountain Valley's Winter Formal was more than just a dance—it was a celebration of friendship, joy, and the magic of the season. As students departed with smiles on their faces and clothes drenched in sweat, it was clear that the night had been a resounding success, leaving everyone eagerly awaiting the next unforgettable event.

Exploring Color Through A New Divergent Cover By: Helen M.

For anyone who’s seen my typical art, I’m not one to add vibrant color especially not with paint.

This project was undoubtedly a jump out of my artistic comfort zone, yet I managed to make it quite decent.

This piece is an imitation of the Divergent 10th Anniversary Edition book cover. As part of the project, I mimicked Georges Seurat’s pointillism technique for the main event being the train. I adore the Divergent book series way more than the average person hence why my entire project was based off the cover. At first I tried to copy the original cover completely which evidently failed. I struggled to match the perfect hues, tones, and blending between hues. The colors were not turning out as I hoped, but I realized that I actually liked my hue more than the original. So I experimented with the colors and even threw the brush away –not literally– in exchange for a palette knife. In the end it turned out better than I anticipated and the splashes of color were just as captivating as the plot in Divergent book one.
