Groups known as care teams, consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners and a primary care provider, will now give healthcare treatment for USC students. There are three care teams — blue, red and green — housed in the Thompson Student Health Center, and each student on campus is automatically assigned to one. If the primary care physician in a care team is unavailable, other physicians and providers in the care team will see students. “The main message that we want to give to students is that we care about their overall health,” said Marjorie Riddle Duffie, Public Relations and Marketing Director of Student Health Services. “We want to make sure they’re doing OK in all aspects of their lives.” Students will be asked general questions about how they’re doing and sometimes specific questions about other things they may have sought help for, such as stress and tobacco use. “In most instances, if they’re seeing more than one of our providers, those providers are seeing each other’s notes and collaborating on that patient’s care,” Riddle Duffie said. The Student Health Center hopes to provide better overall diagnoses and health recommendations to patients through these new care teams. DG
