This year, CROEV thrived, as usual, with their annual celebration of English Week: a week full of activities that promote the learning and appreciation of the English language Not only this, but it focuses on providing students with a fun and engaging way to improve their language skills During English Week, they can participate in a wide range of activities such as spelling bees, poetry, singing, and many more contests With their involvement, students enhance their language proficiency, critical thinking, and communication
Starting off the week with the “I Have a Voice” singing competition, a group of students had the chance to sing their favorite songs Through this platform the institution thanks and congratulates every single participant for their great effort and compromise towards extracurricular events such as this one We shall educate integrally and this is just one way to achieve that In this very competition, the student Daniela Collazo obtained third place at regionals Her effortless range captivates every audience she encounters But, more importantly, her passion for music is evident in every aspect of her performance Really a true artist Congratulations Daniela!
Moreover, the senior student Alisha Torres also participated in this week’s activities. She brightened the school’s spirit with an amazing Oratory performance. Her confidence, persuasive arguments, and powerful words have the ability to captivate crowds. Then again, congratulations Alisha!
Furthermore, Darielis Ortiz was part of a selected group of students who participated in the “Poetry Out Loud” finals. This contest consists of declaiming poetry in English. She succeeded in reaching the Top 6 students in such an event. CROEV is proud of you!
Additionally, the Spelling Bee was also held this week After rounds of words spelled, the winners of this competition were: Elika Figueroa, Patricia Larrauri, and Eylimar Santini Thank you for portraying the school's values through such a level of representation
In short, let us keep on promoting English Week the perfect way to motivate the students and educators alike, since it serves as an opportunity for the students to gain confidence in their abilities and develop a deeper appreciation for the language Meanwhile, teachers have a chance to interact and share with their students in many creative and meaningful ways: encouraging a love and passion for English, one profound enough to last a lifetime Happy English Week!

ELECTIVES ART PORTS
In the different types of art classes that Professor Montalvo offers, some students participate in competitions with their work. This class can and has developed new talents in students with a lot of creativity An example of a contest at some participated in was Expression enge, which was sponsored by Walgreens. emester the student Yetsabel Soto won in coop contest and her work was exposed in the calendars of said cooperative.
sor Díaz gives different classes for the elective of al Education Some students didn’t know what they up for when they started his classes, but now they great at what they do. For example, in swimming María Paula Moreno and Emmanuel Maldonado know how to swim, now they both learned how to estyle, backstroke and floating In the P E class, was taught for a period, and that encouraged the -grade girls to want to play it and join the team. nks to that, the girls varsity soccer team is now pated in a tournament called “Liga Interescolar de Soccer del Sur”, where they placed 1st place
MUSIC
In the band and chorus class that Prof. Olivera offers there have been a lot of learning expeditions An example of this is when they were invited to the middle school Nélida Meléndez Meléndez in Orocovis to play in an event called “Modelando por el Autismo”. They will be doing a similar thing on May 18th in which they will be playing in the Honors Night of the school Herminio W. Santaella in Coamo On March 1st they went to the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce (UPRP) to an open rehearsal of the chorus of said school On another note, this teacher also prepared the “CROEV’S Got Talent” talent show which was a huge hit and also great practice for the student in her classes

HISTORY
HEALTH STEM
This semester the Professor Meléndez offers the classes of “Gerosalud” and “Primeros Auxilios” in which there has been done different activities Some of said activities were the Health Week in February 13-17 where students made kites related to emotions, the CPR project (which is divided in hands only and advanced) that was with Doctor Lester Mercado who is a general medic, and many more Most students learned hoy to take someone ’ s pressure and pulse The ninth graders had a project called “Baby Egg” which lasted all of February This class took an expedition to the theater of Juana Diaz to see a play calles “Mis estudios, mi novio y yo ” where they explained the importance of self care. Let’s hope that the new semester brings exciting things for this class!
There are two professors that offer different classes for this elective This semester Prof Colón offers “Derecho y Sociedad” in which students have worked with archaeological records where they have done investigations of iconic monuments of Puerto Rico Said students have also done social paradigms where they have analyzed recent cases that affect the family life and its environment Some students that have surpassed the academic curve in this class have been Alejandra Tantao and Carelys Sanchez because some of their investigations have raised awareness about the effects that are achieved through the application of human rights Prof Dávila also gives the class of this elective. She offers Civics with Ethics. These electives that she offers are selected based on the need that students have to learn about some subjects that are understood to be important or meaningful in their future lives. It is important when students come prepared for this class because it means that they are learning about things that they might use in their future. Two students who do this for said class are Adrian Escalera and Gabriel Nieves, who show an interest beyond the class and come prepared with information when a new topic is presented. A very special project that that Prof. Dávila likes to give is “Cómo manejar mi dinero en una economía difícil” where the students are given an adult life and earnings, given that they had to manage their money by making a budget, look for a home and cars. This is a great way of preparing these students for managing money for years to come.
Some of the most important projects that were made in Prof Torres classes represent us as a school around the island and the United States In December, the students made 3rd place in the Robot Maker competition by presenting their smart robot with a prize of $500 This semester the Watasumi robotics club will represent Puerto Rico in Maryland on May 10th. On another note, the student Alenis Berlingeri got second place with a project about the ocean ’ s acidification. This course offers a mix of math and science to apply it in our everyday use of technology

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS IN HIGH SCHOOL?
"MY FAVORITE CLASS WAS ALWAYS HISTORY"
WHICH TEACHER IMPACTED YOU THE MOST AND WHY?
HE WAS IMPACTED BY A VERY DIFFICULT MATH PROFESSOR IN 8TH GRADE WHO HE LATER IN LIFE MET AGAIN AND REALIZED HOW GOOD HE ACTUALLY WAS.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO STUDY MATH?
HE STUDIED EDUCATION BUT HE NEVER IMAGINED TO BE A MATH PROFESSOR, LIFE JUST TOOK HIM THERE.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE A TEACHER? HIS GRANDPARENTS, BECAUSE THEY WERE ALSO TEACHERS.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST ABOUT CROEV?
HOW ORGANIZED IT IS AND HOW GOOD HIS CO-WORKERS ARE.
IF YOU WEREN’T A TEACHER WHAT WOULD YOU BE? SOME KIND OF ARTIST OR DJ.
WHAT DID YOU STUDY AND WHERE? HE STUDIED EDUCATION WITH A CONCENTRATION IN MATH AT THE PONTIFICAL CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF PONCE.
FUN FACT!
Francisco was a "bad student", especially in math and he ended up teaching it and liking it when he finally understood it

SCHOOL CLUBS
By: Aleris Maldonado
CROEV has a variety of students, all with different interests. Many of the students may be interested in different activities, such as cooking, reading, learning about future careers, etc. Because of this, there are a variety of clubs students can choose from. For cooking centered clubs, look no further than “La Cooperativa Juvenil” and “Café Arte”. The National Honor Society and SHPE offer information regarding careers and potential interests students may have. The Library club and the Interdisciplinary Team offer different activities, such as promoting the development of students’ literary expression, or offering seminars discussing topics that affect the community’s livelihood as a whole. Below is a brief summary for each club, explaining what they are based on and what to expect from them.
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), led by the student Adrian Escalera, has the purpose of creating a society of engineers to serve as role models for latin youth This organization promotes career development and professional advancements in Hispanic engineers and students Students can expect an environment where they can develop intellectually and professionally This is by figuring out where their interests lie and, whether or not they are actually interested in engineering. CROEV is a part of the RUM chapter, where students have taken part in different activities, such as the Kick-Off, where members of the club can expect seminars about different majors offered in the University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayagüez
The National Honor Society (NHS), led by the student Alan Torres is a student organization that recognizes scholarships, student achievements, leadership, service, and character The club provides information regarding different careers, scholarship opportunities, and it helps students gain hours that are necessary for graduation The club was recognized internationally in January 2023, with the chapter initiation The council is 100% managed by students Moreover, the students have been responsible for most of the activities. Such as Forest Cleaning and Beach Cleaning All of these taught the students how to take care of the environment, in addition to giving them a total of seven green contact hours NHS provides the graduates with pendant stoles and certificates
SHPE NHS LIBRARY CLUB
Next up, the Library Club This club is one characterized by how active it is within the community. They are constantly offering new activities for members and to anyone that wishes to join Their recent activities include a Book Character Night, which involves dressing up as a book character and providing a background for said character and the book they come from, a Poetry Night, where students are welcome to share original pieces of poetry or to simply bring a poem they like In addition, the club has also done a Night of Legends, where students share a legend, whether it is one from their hometown or an urban legend, and share it with everybody Lastly, their most recent activity involves the Guest Author José Enrique Laboy In this activity students had the chance to learn the route needed to take in order to write a book. Some values club members have are the following, consistency, responsibility Lastly, students are required to do two hours per week work shifts, which will help them gain community service hours that are required for graduation.
COOPERATIVA
“La Cooperativa Juvenil” is a club where students can learn how to be in a working environment where they deal with money, customers, and food preparation In addition, the club is 100% student run The only part that isn’t run by students is the actual money management, which is deposited in the bank sponsoring this club The menu and food prepared are all in an affordable range for every student to enjoy Members of the club are required to work at least one hour a week These hours can be used for community service that is essential for graduation At graduation members are given a check using the percentage of the hours they worked and the money they spent
INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM
The Interdisciplinary Team’s purpose is to unite social work, psychology, and nursing under the same objective, which is the student and any need they may have They are the people behind the different seminars regarding mental health, bullying, public safety, etc , which are given to the students to promote a healthy environment in their lives. Their most recent activity includes an array of different kiosks with the same purpose, generating donations for the organization “Relevo por la Vida” This organization focuses on helping cancer patients of all ages, that may be through helping ease the treatment costs, providing patients with psychological help, temporary housing for patients whose treatments are too far away from their homes, etc On may 20th, the school will be hosting the official relay for this year Students are welcome to come and join along their family members and enjoy the afternoon
EXPRESARTE
“Café Arte” is a branch from the club “Expresarte” This club has the purpose to help manage the cost of art materials and different activities students may have. In addition, it also helps raise funds for extracurricular activities This club promotes students to develop decision making skills, teamwork, money management, and independence The work environment is relaxing and helps students destress after a long school day with a nice coffee. This club provides students with community service hours depending on how long each student's work shifts are

SENIOR SENIOR SENIOR SPOT SPOT SPOT ZEPHYR
The Zephyr 2023 class was quite a memorable one. They went through ups and downs like any class and yet they made their year memorable not only for them but for the whole school. The theme of the class was the roaring 20's where their senior entrance was a red carpet from celebrities of that era and every senior played one of those celebrities.
In their many achievements there was kiosks, winning funds for the class in TV programs and much more.

The class consists of many brilliant, artistic and overall aspiring minds that will impact the world for the better.

ENTRA A TANTAS ORGANIZACIONES ESTUDIANTILES COMO PUEDAS HAZ CONEXIONES EN ELLAS, TANTO DE AMAZING FRIENDSHIPS COMO DE MENTORES QUE TE PUEDEN ABRIR UNA PUERTA EN EL FUTURO
NO HAY APURO CADA ESTUDIANTE TIENE SU PROCESO, TRAYECTORIA Y TIEMPO. DENTRO DE LAS METAS QUE TENGAS, TAMBIÉN DEBES TENER PRIORIDADES.
ORGANIZA TUS SEMESTRES DEL BACHILLERATO. BUSCA EL CURRÍCULUM DE TU BACHILLERATO EN EL WEBSITE DE TU UNIVERSIDAD Y LUEGO PREPARA UN EXCEL SHEET DE LO QUE SERÁN TUS SEMESTRES DE BACHILLERATO BASADO EN ESE CURRÍCULUM

APROVECHA CADA CLASE QUE TOMES PORQUE SERÁN TU PREPARAMIENTO PARA TU VIDA COMO PROFESIONAL, SO DON’T TAKE THEM FOR GRANTED.
SI ESTÁS EN EL SISTEMA UPR: DEFIENDE TU UNIVERSIDAD MUCHOS TE DIRÁN QUE “NO QUIEREN PERDER SU SEMESTRE” O “ESTÁS AHÍ PARA ESTUDIAR NADA MÁS” SIN EMBARGO, EL PODER DEL PUEBLO ESTÁ EN SU UNIVERSIDAD Y NO PUEDES PERMITIR QUE LA SIGAN HACIENDO MENOS ACCESIBLE CADA VEZ
PARA MIS CROEVITAS QUE ENTRAN A UN BACHILLERATO EN CIENCIAS: GUARDEN ESA LIBRETA DE QUÍMICA, BIOLOGÍA, PRECA Y CÁLCULO DE CROEV PORQUE LES DARÁN USO EN SU 1ER SEMESTRE DE BACHILLERATO Y MAYBE 2DO SEMESTRE TAMBIÉN.
NO TE FRUSTRES. ES NORMAL FALLAR. ES NORMAL COLGARSE EN UNA CLASE (IMPORTANTE: LA TIENES QUE REPETIR). ES NORMAL DARSE DE BAJA DE UNA CLASE. ES NORMAL CAMBIARSE DE CONCENTRACIÓN. ES NORMAL SENTIRTE SÓLO(X). LO IMPORTANTE ES QUE SEPAS QUE TODO PASARÁ, ES CUESTIÓN DE TIEMPO.

Lo que fue
Tonight was dark
Like a closed room with the lights off
A starless night
Like the feeling of a hopeless lover
A blank canvas
Like an artist without a muse
Then you came;
Big and Bright
Like a child’s smile
Lighting the dark
Like a spark in the sky
I beseech you moon
Shine every night
So that way
I may never feel alone

There’s no racism but
By: Alisha N. Torres Fernández
Often heard in Puerto Rico is, there is no racism but…
There is no racism but, no governor has been black
There is no racism but, our people can barely accept to write black on the census,
There is no racism but, we shouldnt marry black people so we don't ruin the race,
There is no racism but, a respected black politician is called a monkey, There is no racism but, I’m ‘negrita pero bonita’, There is no racism but, braids make me rasta, There is no racism but, I should stay out of the sun so I don't get so dark, There is no racism but, wearing my hair curly means ‘I'm in touch with the community’,
There is no racism but, relaxers have been saturated in my hair since before I could multiply,
We keep hearing that there is no racism, Yet every black person I know has experienced some type of attack, These were only some of my memories, but if I asked other people i’d be here for hours,
So if this is not called racism, then what is it called?

ALL I SEE IS RED (SHORT STORY)
BY FABIOLA MOLINA SANTIAGO
Fire, smoke, gun shots… at least that is what I thought I heard as I walked through the sea of people surrounding me as if I were a precious stone. All I could of was my red dress with the satin bow that my grandmother made for me when I was 4. The sparkles of my black, small shoes were now covered in mud and despair. I was desperately looking for the two people who matter the most. I was ripped out of their arms like an angel being thrown out of heaven. I just wanted to hear my dad say, don’t miss me that much, as he left for work. But now I was confused, the surrounding people did not help. At my right, I could see a woman crying, with her torn out black fur coat, her heavily used gray shoes that looked as if they were about to break. She looked at me with eyes that could scream for help, she cried as if she knew me or I reminded her of someone. To my left, I had a big man with a toy gun, or so I thought. He had badges with a symbol I simply could not recognize, but I knew my mom would help me, that’s why I am trying to find her. The man looked at me with a cold stare, an almost sympathetic glare, and an expression I could not understand. I kept walking. I just wanted to find my parents. But then, a loud sound stopped me as it rumbled through the path I was taking, people cried around me even more, rocks moved as if they had life of their own, fire consumed once again my surroundings and smoke that could last for days did not let me breathe. I had nowhere to go. The crowd got bigger, the screams got louder, the gunshots that I thought where from a toy were now hurting the people around me I must admit I ran as fast as a jaguar looking for its prey. I was not fast enough, and as I passed the burning flames, I saw my mom and my dad screaming for help. Help I could not give them, as much as I wanted to. What could a small 7-year-old do? They were on the floor, and I tried to get as close to them as I could. I guess it wasn’t enough. Everything was turning into small black and white dots and as I looked down, I saw my evanescent coat getting redder. I was scared, as I screamed for help I knew no one would stop. The weather got cold, my feet got tired, I laid on the ground as a leaf in spring just waiting to be picked up but no one came. I saw more red, that lovely color, and as my eyes closed I said one last time…
“Mom? Dad? Don’t miss me that much”
