The Defiance Area YMCA on Palmer Drive is a continual center of activity for area residents. The $6.2 million facility, which first opened in 1986, has undergone three major expansions and now offers something for everyone. Curves is a weight-loss facility specially designed for women. It features Curves Complete, the only program that includes exercise, meal plans and coaching - all in one place. When it's time for lunch, local residents have two iconic local restaurants to chose from. And sometimes, it's a toss-up. Kissners Restaurant, established in 1928, and Bud's Restaurant, run by the Mayer family since 1952, tied for this year's honor of the area's favorite place for lunch.

The two also tied in 2011. In other years, Bud's claimed the title four times and Kissner's twice.
