FIRE HALL OFFER News of pending sale to Village
Builders biggest news at meeting by Brad Holden Clearview Council accepted an offer Monday night from Village Builders Inc., to purchase the old Fire Hall property at 3 Caroline Street East for a price of $120,000. The deal is set to close on March 31, according to Township treasurer Mitch Carruthers. The only other Creemore-related news at the meeting was the presence of Old Mill House Pub owner and BIA presidential candidate (now the elected president) Michael Bennett, who stood during the public participation period to request that no changes be made to the BIA’s bylaw until after the organization held its election. Councillor Thom Paterson had made mention at the previous meeting that he intended to bring a motion forward to update the bylaw to bring it in line with the Municipal Act as well as to incorporate some of the traditional ways the organization has operated. On Monday night, he assured Bennett that nothing was to happen on the issue that night and any future work on the bylaw would be done in partnership with the new BIA management board. Of the short meeting’s few votes of consequence was a decision to advertise tender documents for the reconstruction of the Nottawasaga Concession 10 bridge and the purchase of a 2009 Motor Grader. The grader will replace one bought in 1995, which was at the time the first piece of new equipment bought by the newly formed Clearview Township. The bridge project will turn a dangerous one-lane bridge into two lanes. While the 2009 budget has not yet been passed, Public Works Director Richard Spraggs told Council there are enough funds in reserves to cover both expenditures without affecting the tax rate. The reason for the early tender is, in the bridge project’s case, the need to secure a good contractor in a competitive marketplace, and in the grader’s case, the need to have the new equipment delivered in time for the summer grading season. Councillor Doug Measures announced during the Community Announcements section of the agenda that he’d been informed by Habitat for Humanity South Georgian Bay that the organization will begin its first-ever Clearview Township build on August 8, 2009 in Stayner. So far, 22 people are living in Habitat for Humanity homes in South Georgian Bay, all of them in either Collingwood or Wasaga Beach.

A Good Laugh and a Great Event
Simcoe County Warden Tony Guergis, Dufferin County Warden Gord Montgomery and Clearview Township Mayor Ken Ferguson share a laugh with local Easter Seals Ambassador Zack Walton and Charlene Myke, Easter Seals’ Senior Development Officer for Simcoe/Parry Sound/Muskoka before heading out on their snowmoblies during last Saturday’s Collingwood Snowarama for Easter Seals. This year’s event, as always co-hosted by the Collingwood Progress Club and the Blue Mountain Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club, drew more than 50 participants and brought in a record $9,000 for the charity. Mayor Ferguson, a longtime supporter of Snowarama, credited this year’s success to the hard work of the Progress Club and Snowmobile Club members.
Echo Briefs BIA Election Results Wednesday night’s Creemore BIA election produced the following results: Michael Bennett of the Old Mill House Pub will serve as President; Cynthia Gordon of Victorian Values will serve as Vice-President; and Karen Gaudino of Creemore Springs Brewery and Catherine Randall of Curiosity House will serve as members of an enlarged Board of Directors. In addition, both Corey Finkelstein of Inzane Planet and Pat Steer of Angel House B&B, while losing the elections for President and VicePresident respectively, indicated their willingness to serve on the Board. Whether that happens, and how they might be appointed, remains to be seen.
