Vol. 09 No. 13

SCI STAYS PUT Vast majority of Accomodation Review Committee draws that conclusion after almost one year of deliberations by Brad Holden Put money into improving the five existing schools, and let Wasaga Beach get its own high school when the population there can support it. That, in so many words, is the main recommendation going forward to the Simcoe County District School Board from the Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) that’s spent the past year grappling with the distribution of students between high schools in Collingwood, Clearview Township, Elmvale, Midland, Penetanguishene and potentially Wasaga Beach. But it’s not the only recommendation. Because the ARC mandate requires a consensus decision, and because this one has essentially pitted several communities, each with a desire for a great high school of their own, against each other, the committee was unable to present a unanimous vote in favour of the “five-school solution,” as the above scenario is known. SPECIAL REPORT

Out With the New, In With the Old

Bowling Strikes Musician and rural hall lover Fred Eaglesmith was delighted to find a bowling alley in the basement of the Avening Hall after his show there Friday. For more pictures from the show, see page 14.

by April Phule “Everybody thinks that we bought Creemore Springs Brewery because of the great beer but, in fact, we bought it for much, much more than just that.” I heard that comment while sitting in a glasswalled office on the 16th floor of the Coors Brewing world headquarters, settled in a very comfortable leather chair and looking out at some of the most spectacular scenery Colorado has to offer. My host was sitting behind the biggest desk I had ever seen, with his feet up, drinking a tall, cool glass of Creemore’s finest lager. (He later told me he has a fresh keg flown in daily from “up there.”) Totally relaxed and amiable, he began to tell me about the future for Creemore and the beer business as he sees it.
