Drive-in movies showing in Mansfield by Trina Berlo Mansfield Outdoor Centre has hung a giant movie screen on their barn to create a pop-up drive in theatre. This weekend, there will be two showings of the 1987 classic The Princess Bride. “It’s a perfect fun family movie because it works for everybody, boys, girls, parents,” said organizer Jeanette McFarlane. “I think a family having fun together is a great way to create summer memories in a summer that you can’t have.” McFarlane said there is plenty of room so people can safely distance, and watch the movie from the comfort of their vehicle, with the people in their bubble. She said she pitched the idea to Mulmur council and the community (See “Mulmur” on page 6)

Real estate market incredibly robust by Bonnie MacPherson With most of Ontario now into Stage 3 of the province’s plan to re-open the economy, real estate open houses are once again permitted, but that does not mean a return to businessas-usual, according to Mike Scholte, President of the South Georgian Bay Association of Realtors (SGBAR). Scholte says local realtors are working hard to make the process safe for buyers and sellers, which means much greater focus on virtual technologies and “hands-in-pockets” showings. People still need to buy and sell, according to Scholte, but the process has become much more deliberate, with less window shopping. Realtors are working hard to qualify buyers in advance and potential buyers are signing health disclosures before touring homes. New statistics from the SGBAR point to a very healthy local market

Police crack down on speed racers Since July 20, police working the night shift began proactively patrolling municipal, township, and county roads and have since caught a number of drivers going more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit. At 8:58 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 26, in Springwater Township, and charged a female driver for travelling 131 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. At 9:13 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 26, in Wasaga Beach, and charged a female driver for travelling 168 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. At 12:44 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Sunnidale Road South, in Wasaga Beach, and charged a female driver for travelling 128 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. Two hours later, the same officer stopped a motorcycle on County Road 10, in Clearview Township, a n d c h a rg e d a m a l e d r i v e r f o r travelling 146 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. In all incidents, the vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days, and the drivers’ licences were immediately suspended for seven days. “Huronia West OPP is committed to serving our province by protecting its citizens, upholding the law and preserving public safety. Going above the speed limit increases your risk of a collision. Braking times and stopping distances are greatly reduced, thereby making it more difficult to stop when you need to. Adding in environmental f a c t o r s s u c h a s w e a t h e r, r o a d conditions, other drivers or other unanticipated hazards can be a recipe for disaster,” said police. “Please do your part to keep the roads safe by obeying the posted speed limits.”
