Steer opens doors during open house
Clearview Youth Centre Looking for Community
by Trina Berlo Streer Enterprises opened its doors to the community last Friday during an open house to celebrate the grand opening of its new Cashtown Corners facility. More than 600 people – friends, neighbours, customers and industry professionals – visited for a chance to tour the state-of-the-art facility and congratulate the staff. O w n e r Ti m Yo u n g s a i d t h e attendance and response was humbling. “I would like to say thanks for all of the support throughout the whole process,” said Young, adding that people have been very encouraging through the development process and subsequent OMB process that allowed Steer to build a facility more than four times larger than the one it occupied in Glen Huron. The new 36,400 square foot shop and offices was designed with efficiency and safety in mind. At the time of the OMB ruling in 2017, there were 29 people on staff. That has grown to 57, as of last week. “We are excited to support that many people in the community with well paying jobs and an opportunity for apprentices to find their path,” said Controller Judith Crawford. The majority of employees are hired from within the area, some having started as co-op students and moving up through three stages of apprenticeships. There is also a full office staff and parts department. (See “Steer” on page 3)
The Clearview Youth Centre, as part of its transition under the Parks, Culture and Recreation department of the municipality, is working on expanding programming, including building community partnerships. The Youth Centre is looking to build community partnerships for day usage, and to expand program offerings to youth. If you are interested in using the space during the day or have programming ideas, please contact the centre by phone 705-428-5500, or email youthcentre@clearview.ca. The Youth Centre is located at 7458 Highway 26 in Stayner. Drop-in programs are free for youth aged 12 to 18 and run Monday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m. during the summer.

Council approves Singhampton 4-way stop by Trina Berlo Clearview council has agreed to create a 4-way stop on Milltown Road in Singhampton in response to residents’ concerns about increased traffic and speed. Councillor Doug McKechnie championed the cause on behalf of
the community. He said Milltown Road is “a natural bypass” for people trying to avoid the turn at County Rd. 124. The theory is that people speed across Milltown Road (985 metres in length) in order to get ahead of traffic turning onto 124. The fact that there are no sidewalks in

the residential area, combined with the “undulating” road and a sharp turn is a dangerous combination as children play and people walk along the road, which has limited visibility in areas. “No sidewalks mean there is a lot of activity on the street,” said Milltown (See “Stop” on page 3)
Clearview is in the lead, having the most steps in a neighbourly fitness challenge. Since Canada Day, the three councils have logged their daily steps to promote healthy and active lifestyles: Clearview, 1018.02 km; Wasaga Beach, 948.17 km; and Collingwood, 680.08 km.
