A second public consultation meeting at Station on the Green Jan. 20 attracted a large crowd to hear options for the use of the TD Bank property.
Public ponders TD Bank scenarios by Trina Berlo A second public consultation session about the fate of Creemore’s TD Bank property attracted another full-house to Station on the Green Sunday. Despite the stormy weather, a crowd of about 150 people gathered to hear about consolidated ideas hashed out at the first meeting held in December. Small, a firm hired by the Creemore
Community Foundation to gauge public opinion on a proposal to raze the bank building and extend the Horticultural Park, came back with the three scenarios. One: Tear down the bank to create open public space and better street visibility for Station on the Green. This scenario “allows the community to take advantage of a one-time donation from
both TD and the Foundation with an estimated value of $1 million.” In this scenario, the Hort Society and other volunteers would be required to plan and implement ongoing maintenance. The Foundation would fundraise for the operational expenses of the expanded green space. Program management would have to (See “Foundation” on page 3)
Digital speed signs fast tracked for Nottawa Others approved as part of the regular budget process by Trina Berlo Nottawa will get its speed signs, before others approved through the budget process. Clearview council has approved the immediate purchase and installation of two digital speed signs at the north and south entrances to the Village of
Nottawa on County Road 124 to an amount not exceeding $11,000. The signs were championed by Nottawa councillor Ed Christie who called for immediate action in addressing the community’s concerns about speeding. Because the signs had been approved in November, pending budget approval, council needed to follow a special procedure to get the motion on the

Later in the meeting, council approved six other digital speed signs for the entranceways to the communities of Creemore (on County Road 9 at Jardine Cres. and Collingwood St.), Stayner (on Highway 26) and New (See “Council” on page 3)
The bell, rescued from the Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School Annex, also known as Creemore Continuation School, has been installed in the lobby of the senior site. It will be unveiled at a ceremony Tuesday morning, with special guests and dignitaries in attendance. The public is welcome to attend. When the annex was shuttered and put on the real estate market, local residents set about trying to keep it from being sold with the school. The bell has been mounted in a way that it can be rung on special occasions. Because the lobby of the school is relatively small, the unveiling will be viewed from the gymnasium via a live feed. The bell, said Gerry Blackburn, was purchased in 1882 by the citizens of Creemore and the surrounding township for a new four-room school built the previous year. When a larger six-room school opened in 1917, the bell was added to its roof. Blackburn, and members of the of the school reunion committee, wanted to make sure the community icon was not lost into private hands. He will be a guest speaker at a special ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 29, along with local historian Helen Blackburn. Intermediate students will lead attendees in a singing of the school song, and the primary choir will perform. Several school dignitaries will also be in attendance, including Director of Education, Steve Blake, Associate Director (and former Creemore Principal) John Dance, and Area Superintendent, Michael Giffen.
