Jacque’s Note

With another successful Glitter and our first annual Azalea Festival behind us, we are breathing and sleeping a little better! We are looking forward to welcoming the Teacher of the year from Argentina next week (this is the fourth year in a row we have hosted one) and we are gearing up for the year end celebrations. This week’s Parent Social with speaker Deborah Craytor is an event I truly encourage you to attend. Deborah Craytor is an attorney who has spoken to our staff, students and local educators on the topic of internet and relational safety. She will also discuss the change in the legal responsibilities when a report or evidence of abuse/misconduct has been made. The specific behaviors to which teenagers fall victim and the very serious implications involved are known as “The Seven Deadly Sins”. We hear about these situations every week on the news. Pictures, inappropriate texts, unhealthy relationships and risky behaviors are common mistakes made and carry very heavy consequences. This program will instruct parents on signs to look for, areas to guide your teen and the legal implications for protection and/or prosecution. The school has copies of Attorney J. Tom Morgan’s book Ignorance is No Defense: A Teenager’s Guide to Georgia Law for further research. Today’s society is fraught with temptations and pitfalls for an adolescent. Their natural progression to adulthood requires exploration and discovery, but the messages and modeling that surround them in our society are often unhealthy or dangerous. Parents and teachers can be alert and vigilant, but we cannot always see the danger ahead or know what our teens are facing. It is important that our teens be informed and TCS has several events/opportunities throughout the year to present this information to them. However, the more information we have about the risks and our resources for avoiding them, the safer our teens will be. You need to attend this meeting tomorrow night! We have completed our review of the parent surveys and are very pleased with the data we gleaned. The format and ability to tailor some of the inquiries for responses to specific areas was extremely helpful. Thank you for your overwhelming support of our school program and the outcomes we see in our students. Thank you, also, for the suggestions and observations which are being reviewed and addressed. Areas of communication and homework are among the topics of discussion. Kudos go to our student athletes and volunteers. Sixteen of our teens participated in Relay for Life, many of them putting in eight hours! Chandler Williams continues to amaze with his tennis talent and represented TCS in the State finals in Macon! He is our first Tennis State contender! Our Cross Country and Track teams excelled again this year in every contest they faced! Our Drama troupe is preparing for their play in May. Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet…these kids are tough!

UBER & EFGA JOIN FORCES!! $20 Off Your First Uber Ride AND $5 back to EFGA EFGA is very happy to announce a new partnership with Uber! The Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia and Uber are joining forces to help epilepsy patients access transportation at no cost. Through the end of 2015, when new Uber riders enter the promotional code “EPILEPSY”, they will get $20 off their first Uber ride and Uber will donate $5 back to the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia. EFGA will be using the funds to provide transportation to epilepsy patients at little or no cost so that patients can successfully live their lives with one less limitation. We cannot express our gratitude to Uber Atlanta enough for this amazing opportunity. Please help spread the word about this special promotional code (that can be used NATIONWIDE)!! The Epilepsy Foundation NEEDS YOUR HELP! We need your help to get new Uber riders to enter the “EPILEPSY” promotional code to help as many patients as possible access safe, reliable transportation. Two important points: You do not have to have epilepsy to take part in this program… so please let your friends and colleagues who have never used Uber know about it and they can help raise funds for the EFGA, while getting a major discount on their first ride. Also, as mentioned in the article, this offer is good through the end of the year. This is a “test period” for the program, and Uber will be monitoring the increase in ridership through the use of the code word EPILEPSY. We encourage everyone to give Uber a try. If the pilot is successful A) The program will be made permanent, allowing persons with epilepsy the freedom to travel, and raising the funds. B) The program is nationwide in scope, so people with epilepsy throughout the country can benefit from this program. Learn more at uber.com. Share this with family and friends all across the US! Help EFGA get the word out and Uber can fill a need in the community!
