ABOUT THE ROLE
The Coronet Theatre is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Lead Technician or Technical Manager (title dependent on experience) to play a central role in delivering our ambitious international programme. This is a hands-on role at its core you will be expected to lead from the front, working closely with artists, visiting companies, and the in-house team to ensure every production runs smoothly from initial planning to final load-out.
Acting as the primary technical liaison for all visiting companies, you will interpret and assess technical riders, identify potential issues and cost-effective solutions, and oversee the full delivery of technical elements across lighting, sound, AV, set construction, and stage management You’ll also be a key operator when needed; this is not a solely desk-based position, but a practical role requiring someone who is comfortable being in the space, troubleshooting on the fly, and setting the tone for professionalism and quality throughout the team
We’re looking for someone with strong technical skills across a range of disciplines and the confidence to step in and lead by example You will plan and manage freelance crews, maintain the venue ’ s technical infrastructure and inventory systems, and take an active role in implementing and improving health and safety procedures

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Technical Co-ordination with Companies
Act as the primary technical liaison between the Theatre and Visiting Companies, ensuring smooth communication and understanding of technical needs.
Liaise with creative and production teams to determine technical requirements and feasibility. Review, assess, cost, and recommend changes to technical riders, flagging any issues or requirements that need adjustment.
Provide technical support and guidance to visiting artists, designers, and production teams.
Ensure the Theatre’s technical rider and documentation remain up to date and accurate
Technical Delivery of Projects
Lead the ‘hands-on’, high-quality delivery of all technical aspects of productions from load-in to load-out, including supervising lighting, sound, AV, set construction, and stage management.
Ensure all technical elements align with the Theatre’s artistic vision and are delivered on time and within budget.
Develop and manage technical budgets within the Forward Planning process, ensuring cost efficiency while maintaining quality.
Create and maintain production schedules.
Source and procure necessary technical equipment and materials within budget and deadlines. Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during rehearsals and performances Duty Tech / operate projects as required.
Booking Crew
Plan and schedule technical crew based on production needs.
Hire and manage freelance and casual technical staff, ensuring appropriate skills and experience.
Coordinate crew call times, ensuring efficiency and compliance with working time regulations. Maintain a network of skilled technical professionals
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (CONT)
Technical Infrastructure
Ensure all Theatre technical equipment is maintained to a high standard, following ‘best practice’.
Ensure that broken or faulty equipment is repaired in a timely manner
Ensure that all technical networks and control infrastructure are maintained to a high professional standard.
Ensure the office IT is in good working order, responding to any infrastructure issues.
Oversee the Theatre’s inventory management system ‘Current’.
Production Health & Safety (H&S)
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
Ensure that Visiting Companies carry the necessary insurance required. Conduct and oversee risk assessments for all productions and technical activities
Implement and enforce health and safety policies, including manual handling, working at height, and fire safety protocols. Provide training and guidance on safe working practices for all crew and production personnel.
PRS (Performing Rights Society) Compliance (training can be provided)
Ensure appropriate PRS licensing is in place for all productions and events
Maintain accurate records of music usage and report as required. Liaise with relevant departments to ensure compliance with copyright regulations
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary: Circa £36k per annum. Depending on experience.
Contract: This is a permanent, full-time position on completion of a successful probation period.
Working Hours: 40 Hours per week. Standard office hours are 9.30am - 5.30pm (Monday to Friday), although hours worked are to be determined by the needs of the role Regular evening and weekend work will be required.

Responsible For: No formal line management responsibility but will be responsible for freelance crews Line Management may become part of this role as the organisation develops.
