INTINN YOUTH FILM & MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME Cork International Film Festival is Ireland’s first and largest film festival and celebrates its 68th edition in November 2023. This year, with the valued support of ESB Energy for Generations Fund, the Festival continues to grow Intinn, its successful Film and Mental Health programme for Transition Year students. We are delighted that you have chosen to participate in this programme. Meaning ‘mind’ or ‘way of thinking’, the Intinn programme has grown from 300 students to over 7,000 students participating in person and online in Cork since its pilot in 2019.
THIS YEAR’S PROGRAMME
Intinn offers Transition Year students the opportunity to view two short films by Irish directors - Aoise Tutty Jackson and Nathan Fagan - which have been specially curated to enable youth audiences to explore different aspects of mental health and wellbeing relevant to young people. After the screening, a mental health professional from our team of Intinn facilitators will present a workshop which will address the themes of both films and will include practical tips about how to build resilience and enhance wellbeing. Topics to be covered will include sleep hygiene, the importance of authentic discussions about mental health, and appropriate supports. The workshops will help your students to explore different mental health experiences, to understand their own wellbeing and ways of developing personal coping and resilience skills. There are also optional recorded Q&As with the filmmakers and CIFF Senior Programmer Don O’Mahony available online, where both filmmakers explain why they chose to embark on making their respective short films. These will help you discover more about the filmmaking process.
