"On The Road With Jerry Porter As He Finds Food For Thought"
Teen focuses on helping others and giving back in the midst of her own busy schedule By Lucy Weber Aniya Tye has a big heart and she is always working to brighten others’ days. “If someone is in need, I try to help. I’m a giving person,” said the 16year-old Biggersville High School student, who is graduating a year early in 2022. “At the end of the day, I want to help people out and bring people closer to God. I’ve never come across anyone who says I can’t.” Aniya has always had a kind heart, and having two major surgeries in 2018 and 2019 to correct her scoliosis influenced her to actively work in the community for good. Since then, she has donated teddy bears to children in hospitals, cooked and given out meals to those who needed them, collected toys at Christmas and given out food. A resident of Corinth, Aniya attends Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Rienzi. As a natural born leader, Aniya finds helping hands in the community to assist in her goodwill endeavors. “My friends ae very supportive. They offer to help and donate supplies.” She said her grandparents Ward and Kare Tye, whom she lives with, are her role models for doing good. “They’ve always been helpful to those in need and help out in the community. I’ve grown up to be active in the community because of them. I’ve never come across anyone who says” Her most recent effort to help spread joy was in cooking spaghetti, chili and macaroni-and-cheese and then handing out more than 100 heaping plates to those who needed a good meal in September. Her grandparents, cousins, friends and others volunteered to help. “The people were very thankful,” Aniya said. “I felt we did good in the community.” Future projects to spread kindness that Aniya is planning include handing out food for Thanksgiving, a toy drive for Christmas and as soon as Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis will allow it a project a project for the kids. Aniya said she also plans to recruit other students to tutor students in middle school and elementary school. The senior has a full schedule with school, her extracurricular activities and her afterschool Return Address: P.O. Box 1292 Corinth, MS 38835 jobs. When she does have some spare time, she POSTAL PATRON plans upcoming ways to help. “I feel my free time with
thinking about what I want to do. I try to have everything ready to go. “I have a big heart and feel everyone deserves to feel some kind of love, no matter what,” said the high school senior who describes herself as deter-

mined. “I want to see those in need get the help they need and to know that someone cares about them.” At school, Aniya has a full list of activities she’s involved with “too many clubs to list.” She said she sees those clubs as other vehicles for reaching out in service to others. Aniya does not let living with a rod in her back to correct her scoliosis keep her on the sidelines. She is a cheerleader for Biggersville High and plans on being on the track team in the spring. An injury kept her off the high school volleyball team that she was a member of last year. She is also a beauty queen, having won the title of Miss Crossroads in July. In addition to a part-time job at a local clothing store, Aniya also has operated her own baking business Sweets It Is for the past several years. Her delicious treats can be found and ordered on the bakery’s Facebook page. After graduation next spring, Aniya plans to attend Northeast Community College for two years, two years at a university and then attend medical school to become a dermatologist. She wants to have her own medical clinic, which will give her the opportunity to provide jobs for others, another way she plans to give back to the community. “I want to find a cure for skin cancer,” she said.
