Foster parents in Selmer offer love and a good home to boys in need By Lucy Weber Donnie Prather opens the door to his home and welcomes foster children into his heart. Prather and his wife Rosemary, who raised their two children and a niece, began serving as foster parents five years ago. They have fostered four boys in that time and numerous other foster children over respite weekends for other foster parents. They currently have two foster sons at home in Selmer, one who has been with them over a year and the other a few months. "I treat them like they're my own kids," Prather said. "I teach them things they need to know, like how to wash a car or mow a lawn. It's important for
boys to have a good role model. "We teach them to be responsible citizens," he said. "I want them to learn good behavior." Prather said they decided to become foster parents because he feels that all children need love and a place to call home. Some of their foster children come from facilities and other foster homes. One child who came to them lived in as many as 10 foster homes. "These kids don't have anybody. I wanted to help someone out," he said. The Prather children were happy when foster children came into their lives. "They were excited to have other kids in the house," their dad said.
