When Taking Care of Others Is Your Calling - Dr. David Wilbanks Wilbanks is the first physician in his family, which he said made his parents very proud, and is 29-years-old. Once he is board certified and trained as a fullfledged cardiologist, he'll only be 34years-old. Wilbanks is single, but in a relationship. His girlfriend is also in Internal Medicine as a first-year resident. Wilbanks has the distinction of making the first COVID-19 diagnosis in Shelby County, Tennessee (Memphis) as well. "In March 2020, one of my patients was the first patient to test positive for the Coronavirus in Shelby County," he said. "This was very early in the pandemic and we knew very little about it. Not the timeline or really what to do. At that time you were having to drive all the test samples to Nashville and wait for them to be run. And then drive them all back. So it took a while to find out test results. Now of course, we have rapid tests and even at-home testing. It's amazing how fast that progressed and the development of treatments and the vaccines. It's been really interesting to see that progression." He loves the Lord and gives Him credit for all of his successes. "I'm thankful to the Lord for watching over us during this time. He's always been a guiding light in my life that I've tried to dedicate to. And I'm thankful to my mom, dad and my sister for all their support and all 38835 my teachers I had growing up who taught me so much. I've tried to apply everything I've learned along the way into my life. And I'm very thankful."

By Angela Rogalski Corinth native, Dr. David Wilbanks is a third year Internal Medicine resident at the University of Tennessee at Memphis, with plans on becoming an Interventional Cardiologist after he completes a chief residency next year. "I graduated from Corinth High School in 2010," Wilbanks said. "After high school graduation, I went to the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi and graduated there in 2014. Then I graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2019 and now I'm here at the University of Tennessee doing my Internal Medicine residency." Wilbanks said that he went into medicine due to his immense love for people and in helping them. "For my entire life I've loved people and have loved taking care of them and doing whatever I could to help them," he added. "And when that time in my life came where I needed to make a decision about what career I was passionate about, I began looking at all the options that gave me the greatest opportunity to serve and help others. I felt like I was put on this earth to take care of others, so going into healthcare seemed a logical step. Being there for people in a doctor's capacity really touched me." Return Address: P.O. Box 1292 Corinth, MS
