Patterson: A life filled with flowers, hard work, jokes & song By Lucy Weber Hattie Patterson’s advice for living a long life: “Stay busy and never give up.” At 94, Patterson continues to live in her house in Corinth with her beloved flower bed by following her own motto. She keeps busy now by “raking leaves, picking up in my yard and enjoying my flowers.” Other favorite things to do are work her number puzzles – “She works in those Sudoku puzzle books every day,” daughter Linda Alexander says -- and watch her Monday, Wednesday and Friday night wrestling shows, or “wrassling” as she calls them on television. “She remembers what time to watch,” Alexander said. Despite pandemic, 94-year-old praises Lord for family and faith By Lucy Weber In 2020, Irene Pruitt overcame Covid and turned 94. The Oak Grove resident didn’t realize she had picked up the virus until visiting the doctor after the fact. “I have had it. By Lucy Weber Birdie Earnest Patton’s family, friends and former students will treasure the “words of wisdom” she shared during her lifetime. Sadly, Mrs. Patton recently passed away after a well-lived life at the age of 92. She will be missed by her family for her deep faith in the Lord, her love for her family and her strong belief in the value of education. “Mom would always lead us in prayer before meals and end the evening with her Words of Wisdom moment, passing on to us what she’s learned in life., priceless moments and teachings for the younger family mem-
bers,” said Ramona McQueen, one of Mrs. Patton’s daughters. “She has armed each and every member of this family with the words of wisdom that strengthen us. “I can recall one year after Mom’s premeal prayer that a great-grandson looked at Mom with tears in his eyes and said, ‘Great-Great (he calls her that even though she is his great-grandmother), that was a good prayer!” Mrs. Patton lived her life on these words: see PATTON pg 4
