Silver celebrations Quinn London marks 25 years in business
Who, what, where…
All the details for this year’s leading companies
Founded by brothers Conor and James McCarthy in 2015, Flipdish is now one of a handful of tech unicorn businesses in Ireland. Their platform, which provides technology for creating online food ordering apps, boomed during the pandemic when restaurants were forced to create takeaway services from scratch. They have since scaled the business to unicorn status – meaning it is valued at over $1bn – with clients across the globe.
“No matter how fast Flipdish has grown, we’ve evolved around our customers and their needs,” the founders say. The business now has a significant presence in the UK, where it is being used by thousands of restaurants.
WE ARE delighted to bring you another edition of our Companies 100 magazine – which provides an ample opportunity to reflect on the hugely successful Irish firms that are currently operating in Britain.
For 2025 our 100-strong list showcases a true mix of organisations with a wide range of offerings that have been making significant inroads in their respective sectors across the country.
From gap-filling start-ups to long-standing groups and tech-savvy trendsetters there are so many impressive stories to tell.
Our cover star Orla Kiely is an industry leader with 30 years of business now under her oh-so stylish belt.
Since founding her fashion and lifestyle brand in London in 1995, the Dubliner has achieved global success.
Her iconic graphic patterns are innovative, influential and instantly recognisable.
Earlier this year her achievements and contribution to the fashion industry in Britian were recognised by Irish President Michael D Higgins.
President Higgins awarded the designer a Presidential Distinguished Service Award.
Thirty years after founding her studio there is still plenty more to come from the entrepreneurial Irishwoman who continues to develop and grow her brand.
Construction firm Quinn London is also marking an anniversary year.
Founded by Group Chairman Seamus Quinn in 2000, the business is celebrating its silver jubilee this year and the firm’s Eamon McConville claims the key to their success so far lies in their people.
“We’ve retained a highly skilled team by investing in their development and creating a strong, supportive culture,” Mr McConville says.
“We’ve embraced change, expanding into new markets and evolving our services to stay ahead of industry trends.
“This balance of consistency and innovation has driven our growth since 2000.”
We too are celebrating an anniversary year, with 2025 marking the Irish Post’s 55th year in business.
We take great pride in retaining our position as the voice of the Irish community in Britain over more than five decades and are grateful to you all for your loyal readership and support during that time.
As always, the companies that fill our 2025 list confirm, once again, that whether it’s in fashion, construction, retail, publishing or any of the many other sectors in between, when Irish firms are founded, they are in it for the long haul.
We hope you enjoy reading their success stories.

Founded in London 30 years ago, Orla Kiely’s fashion and lifestyle brand has grown into a global style powerhouse. FIONA AUDLEY reports…
WHEN designer Orla Kiely founded her style house in London in 1995 the fashion industry was immersed in black.
It was the 90s and grunge was on trend, along with hip-hop culture and the goth look too, which all favoured dark, muted tones.
Then in stepped Kiely, with her bold prints, nostalgic patterns and carousel of colours which have now become synonymous with her brand.
Born in Shankill, Co. Dublin, the Irish designer claims her interest in fabrics and textiles began at a young age.
“When I was around 12 years old, I was very crafty and industrious, always making things,” the
London-based designer explains of her design beginnings.
“I remember asking my father for a sewing machine and I had in all my wisdom seen the one I wanted,” she adds.
“A slim machine with a front and back that folded up to make the case, and down to be a back and front table. Very clever and streamlined, I thought.
“My dad decided if he was buying me a machine, he would buy one that was solid and would last – an investment for life – so together we went shopping.
“We didn’t get the stylish one, but rather a sturdy, weighty Singer with a teak wooden table that it folded into with a drawer for all the
essentials.
“I’m not sure the one I originally wanted would have lasted the past 50 years, but they’re still going strong. A little worse for wear, but I wouldn’t give it away for all the world.”
In the decades that have passed since, Kiely developed her style further, which, inspired by the patterns of the 1950s and 1960s, would turn out to be unique, iconic and hugely covetable.
Her graphic stem print and her signature colour palate – which boasts a collection of earthy tones of greens –olive being a central
force, yellows – mustard is a staple, and oranges, interspersed with pale pinks and blues – are what sets her apart.
There is something inherently vintage about Kiely’s designs and as the years have passed the Londonbased design studio, which began by producing bags and accessories, has brought this style aesthetic to clothing and homeware too.
“The creative world I find myself in now started with a simple idea to
The most iconic image from the Orla Kiely brand is their stem design.
“Our simple graphic leaf has been very kind to us,” the firm admits.
“Designed in 2000, it has become our brand icon, an enduring motif that has survived the test of time,” they add.
“Often described as one of the most recognisable prints of the 21st century by experts and commentators in the world of textiles, it seems to have a unique ability to take on new personalities through scale, texture and colour.
“We have fun re-imagining it each season, surprising even ourselves, like a puzzle with infinite configurations, keeping it fresh and allowing it to remain strong and relevant, no matter the season.”
design a collection of bags and accessories in a rainbow of prints, always joyful and happy with an emphasis on functionality,” Kiely says of the evolution of the business she founded with her husband Dermott Rowan 30 years ago.
“With little funds but lots of enthusiasm, we started our company, his business with my creative, dedicated to colour and pattern,” she explains.
“This was our first step along a winding path and the start of a journey filled with challenges and successes in equal measures.”
Today you can find Kiely’s patterns on everything from handbags and watches to jewellery, homeware and wallpapers too.
And she has collaborated with some of the world’s most established names, including Clarks, M&S, Uniqlo, John Lewis, the TATE Modern museum in London and the Target store in the US.
Her signature patterns, natural motifs and vibrant colours, have also accrued a global fanbase which features some pretty famous faces.
Model Alexa Chung, actors Kirsten Dunst, Scarlett Johansson and Keira
Knightley and even Catherine, the Princess of Wales are all fans of the Kiely print, which is now sold in more than 30 countries worldwide.
Kiely continues to run the firm, which remains London based, with her husband and business partner Rowan.
The pair live in Clapham, south London, with their dogs Olive and Ivy.
They have two sons, Robert and Hamish, both now grown up.
Under the couple’s careful direction, the business continues to succeed in the notoriously fickle fashion world.
Fashion, by its very nature, evolves. Tastes change, trends have a shelf life.
But Kiely’s classic retro style has proved itself timeless and the fashionista’s constant drive to reimagine her designs and update her offerings has seen the brand continue to succeed over three decades in business.
Earlier this year the firm expanded its senior leadership team with the appointment of Jalil Rahman as chief commercial officer.
Rahman has joined the brand
from Richemont Group, where he was director of business development leading the launch of a new start-up luxury brand.
He has also held senior roles at Liberty across brand partnerships and licensing.
In his new position, Rahman will focus on driving global growth including expanding the Orla Kiely customer base.
His appointment follows a strong fourth quarter in 2024 for the business, where sales grew by 13 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.
“Bringing Jalil – with his years of experience working with heritage design and luxury brands – onto the team marks a new chapter for the business, as we continue to invest in our people and grow the business,” Rowan said.
“We look forward to increasing our global reach as the brand continues to go from strength to strength,” he added.
Kiely herself has received several prestigious awards honouring her business achievements so far.
In 2011 she was made an OBE for her services to fashion and business in Britain.
The year prior to that, an image of one of Kiely’s bags featured on an Irish stamp.
She was one of six Irish designers honoured by An Post when they released six fashion stamps in 2010.
Earlier this year Kiely received a Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad for her contributions to business and economic development.
The designer found herself among a group of 10 people who each received the prestigious annual award at a ceremony held at President Michael D Higgins’ Dublin
residence, Áras an Uachtaráin.
Footballer Séamus Coleman and Rosalind Scanlon, the Artistic Director of the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith, were there too, receiving awards for their respective contributions as Irish people living and working in Britain.
“These awards enable us, as a nation, to recognise those members of our global family who have contributed, in their different ways, so significantly to Ireland’s reputation on the international stage as a country that understands the migratory experience, its challenges, responsibilities and the part that transience plays in all of our shared lives,” President Higgins said during the ceremony.
“This evening’s awardees follow in the footsteps of all those others, heralded or unheralded, feted or forgotten, whose quiet determination to make a contribution beyond the self makes us all proud of them and whom we also remember here today,” he added.
Upon receiving her award, Kiely said it was “a privilege to represent Ireland on the international stage and to contribute to our global community”.
Now, with 30 years in business under her belt and plans to expand the reach of her brand even further, it seems there is still much more to come from the designer.
So what does she think about the impact she has had on the globe to date?
“People have been nervous of print,” she says.
“So, if I have given them more confidence, and a love of print pattern and colour, that will be a nice legacy.”

year in business,
Eamon McConville reveals the key to the firm’s success so far…
Quinn London is marking its 25th anniversary this year, how have you been celebrating this milestone?
Reaching our 25th anniversary has been an incredible moment for everyone at Quinn London. We marked the occasion with a celebration party to honour our journey, thank our people, and look ahead to the future.
The company has grown somewhat since its founding in 2000, what is the key to your success?
The key to Quinn London’s success lies in our people. We’ve retained a highly skilled team by investing in their development and creating a strong, supportive culture. We’ve embraced change, expanded into new markets and evolved our services to stay ahead of industry trends. This balance of consistency and innovation has driven our growth since 2000.
Is the firm family-run, and if so, how important is that to the business?
Yes, our founder Seamus Quinn built the business on strong values of trust, commitment, and a hands-on approach which continues to guide us today.
What is the current ethos of the firm, and has that changed over the past 25 years?
Our core ethos has always been
about delivering quality and doing the right thing by our clients, staff, and communities. While those values have remained consistent, the way we work has evolved significantly over the past 25 years. We’ve embraced modern methods and technologies, introducing new software and digital tools to improve project management, communication, and efficiency. This has allowed us to meet the demands of today’s market and continue delivering the high standards we’re known for.
What sets your firm apart from other companies in the construction sector?
Our three distinct divisions set us apart from other companies, Heritage, Central London, and Property Services. We’re able to deliver a wide range of projects across sectors including Refurbishment works, Education, Healthcare, Commercial, Residential, and listed buildings.
How large is your current client base and how far geographically do your projects stretch?
Geographically, our focus remains firmly on London and the surrounding areas. We’re able to maintain a high level of quality control and responsiveness ensuring we deliver exceptional results in some of the city’s most challenging and high-profile environments.
What are the biggest challenges the firm has faced over the years?
Like many in the industry, we’ve faced our share of challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic was a particularly testing time, forcing us to adapt quickly to new safety measures, supply chain disruptions, and remote working, while still delivering for our clients. We’ve also seen a growing number of new competitors entering the market, often with different business models or digital first approaches. But rather than see this as a threat, we’ve used it as motivation to innovate, investing in technology, upskilling our teams, and continuously improving our service. These challenges have ultimately made us stronger.
What have been the company’s highlights to date?
Two major milestones stand out for us, celebrating 25 years in business and reaching £100 million in turnover. Both achievements are a testament to the hard work and growth we’ve maintained over the years. We’re also proud of the long-term relationships we've built with clients, partners, and our team as well as the wide range of projects we’ve successfully delivered across London.
What are the long-term goals for the business?
Our long-term goal is to deepen our
presence in London by taking on more high value projects across our three divisions. We’re investing further in our people, digital systems, sustainability and social value initiatives to ensure we stay at the forefront of the industry.
Are there any significant projects on the horizon?
