The Cobar Weekly Slow progress on Newey Plan of Management Pg 2
The Kubby House Child Care is closed this week with staff and the management committee re-grouping in an effort to be able to reopen the centre next week. The Kubby House volunteer management ommittee announced last week their staffing problems had escalated. On Wednesday they informed families who use the centre there was a “danger of a temporary forced stoppage, meaning we will not be open to provide care”. Families were then updated on Saturday of the committee’s regrettable decision to not open the centre this week. To date Kubby has been unsuccessful in securing sufficient staff to man the centre, following the recent departure of the director and two fulltime educators. Two more staff have also recently resigned. As per their obligations under the National Quality Framework laws, Kubby must have a qualified Responsible Person on the premises at all times when there are children at the centre. The committee is currently working with the Department of Education to fast-track the certification process for potential staff. “We have exhausted all available options and this is a temporary situation. “Securing a director, two diploma-qualified educators and increasing the casual pool is a priority to return the service to normal operations as soon as possible,” the committee said in a letter to parents. While it’s not a permanent solution, the committee has this week received interest from two potential casual staff interested in helping out until the end of the year.
