More funds for Ward Oval improvements

A section of Ward Oval is set for future refurbishment after Cobar Shire Council successfully secured grant funds from the State Government. Council’s grants officer Brytt Moore said council will receive $322,421 as part of phase two of the NSW Showgrounds Stimulus Funding Program, which is funded through the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment—Crown Lands. “Cobar Shire Council’s proposal was approved to demolish the existing stables, and install 90 new, compliant stables, as well as electrical upgrades near the stabling area, including the installation of four camping power outlets and upgrades to two existing electrical power boxes,” Ms Moore told The Cobar Weekly. Agricultural Societies president Tim Capp said the State Government’s funding allocation announcement couldn’t have been more timely for Cobar and other towns across the state. “While community events such as annual agricultural shows can’t run at the moment, it’s the perfect time for show societies to perform maintenance without disruption,” Mr Capp said. “That might include rebuilding grandstands, pavilions, arenas and stables, to new kitchens, amenities blocks, lighting and electrical systems, water, sewerage networks, roads and paths.” No date has been confirmed for Cobar’s project to start but works must be completed by the end of June next year.

Police bros grow the Mos

The Cobar Police Whiskers, Lucas Hardy, Greg McKervey, Chris Power, Tony Martin and Dwayne De Vries, are taking part in Movember, that time of the year when men put their razors away for a month to see who can grow the most impressive facial hair for the purpose of increasing men’s health awareness. Senior Constable De Vries has done Movember a few times and this year encouraged the rest of the station staff to get on board. “Fundraising can be tough, that’s why I think a group approach would be more successful. I believe it is important that men from all walks of life raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. It is a good, fun way to engage the local community and raise some awareness/funds for a great cause. It further creates powerful conversations prompting men to take action on what can be a serious/sensitive topic,” he said. Support their Mo’s at: movember.com/t/cobar-police-whiskers?mc=1
