Fun as usual on
from TCW 290323
Friday night
Friday’s Twilight Bowls at the Golfie was, as usual, a lot of fun!
Rink 9’s pairs game between Tom McKeown and Greg Clark, who took on Karen Daly and Allan Gardoll, finished as a +13 ‘slam dunk’ for McKeown/Clark and earned them the outright winner’s title for the evening.
In sharp contrast, Rink 8’s triples game was decided by just one shot. When the draw was finalised and father and son, Don Roberts and Kyle Roberts, ended up as opposing skippers, everyone knew it was going to be a case of ‘game on’ for both teams!
Don, with his teammates Jarrod Marsden and David Schofield, started the game with a four point win which Kyle and his team mates, Steve Manns and Tony Polack, soon reigned in to have the scores even by the 7th end.
Team Don then claimed the next four points only to be pipped at the post by Team Kyle who ended the duel with a +1 victory.
The Spider winner was Steve Manns.
Four Singles Championship games and a Pairs match were contested on Sunday morning.
Karen Manns wins first golf Trophy Day
Karen Manns is the Cobar Ladies’ Golf first Trophy Day winner of the year finishing with 72 net in Sunday’s Stroke competition.
Manns was also the best with the short stick in B Grade with 28 putts.
Fay Hardwick finished the day as the runnerup with 77 net and also the A Grade putting prize (26).
Sally Bannister finished third on a countback from Julie Livingston when both ladies posted 81 net.
Ann Dunn won the C Grade putting prize with 27 putts.
Saturday’s Learner Day had 11 regular players and one learner (Michelle Falzon) for the Stableford game.
Julie Livingston now has a new handicap after showing a clean set of heels racing away to 39 points, and nine shots clear of her nearest rival.
The runner-up was Glenda Peebles, who also had a Nearest the Pin (NTP) shot on the 15th hole for C Grade.
Peebles grabbed second place after a count- back with Karen Manns when they both scored 30 points. Manns also finished as the NTP winner in B Grade.
Brenda Fugar placed 4th with 29 points.
Unfortunately no A Grader could stay on track for that division’s NTP prize.
Last Wednesday’s Stroke game win went to the ever present Julie Livingston, who is having a fabulous start to the year.
Livingston posted 73 net followed by Geraldine Francisco (76).
Fay Hardwick finished third on 80 net.
The winners of the putting competition in their respective grades were Livingston (24), Fran Samios (28) and Glenda Peebles (31).
This week’s golf events start with a Stableford game today.
The annual Vets Mabel McKenzie Stroke round is scheduled for Saturday with a competition to be run in conjunction for the non vets.
After a sleep in (daylight savings ends Saturday night), the Nutrien Russell sponsored annual Stableford for both men and women will be contested on Sunday. T'd Off

First timer to the competition, Greg Clark, took on three times’ singles champion Don Roberts. Clark managed to keep within a couple of shots and, at one point, even the scores, but Roberts’ precision draw bowling soon saw him streak ahead to a +9 win.
In the Singles match on rink 5, the competition between Gerard Livingston and Tom McKeown took 30 ends to be decided in favour of Livingston by +5.
The scorecard revealed Livingston’s lead for most of play was double that of McKeown however, McKeown’s valiant efforts to close the gap were rewarded, albeit too late!
First-time singles championship bowlers, Jason Howell and Glenn ‘Kiwi’ Ratcliffe had a great game with Howell up by nine shots half way through their game. Kiwi made a mighty comeback to even the scores after 22 ends and went on to win by +2.
In the other Singles game, veteran championship bowler Shane Carter and his best mate Peter ‘China’ Brien had what can only be described as a “master class” conducted by Carter who won by +21.
David ‘Ooze’ Knight and John ‘Shark’ Daly’s Pairs game against David Thomas and Jeff Smith began well with only one point between them until the 8th end. Ooze and Shark’s +4 win on that end then set the scene for the rest of the game. Their +6 win on the second last end secured their championship win as they finished with a +11 victory.
Sunday’s social bowls was light on numbers due to the Singles and Pairs Championship games being contested at the same time.
In their social game, legendary master skipper Doug Hudson steered his team of Paul Kershaw and Greg Clark to a +3 win over Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond, Karen Daly and Allan Gardoll. The Second

It’s almost a month into the new Men’s Golf season and no one has landed a Nearest the Pin shot on the 11th hole!
A Three-Ball Classic will be played this Saturday and an individual Stableford, sponsored by Nutrien Russell, will be contested on Sunday. Out of Bounds
Fabulous Fobs
Only one game was played in the final round of the Fast5 ordinary competition last week, and what a game it was, with Fast Fobs upsetting the previously unbeaten Mixed & Matched side, 37-34.
Fast Fobs were thrilled to have exacted revenge for the one point loss they suffered at the hands of Mixed & Matched the last time the two teams met.
Mixed & Matched only had five players with no subs on the bench for last week game while Fast Fobs had subs aplenty, nearly enough for a second side!
Fast Fobs meant business from the get and they led 7-5 at the first break. When Fast Fobs used their Power Play option (where all points scored are doubled) in the second quarter, they added a healthy 12 points to their tally and were up 19-14 at half time.
They also owned the third quarter where they extended their lead to 10 points.
That put them in a very good position going into the final quarter when Mixed & Matched would use their Power Play option.
Despite scoring 14 points in the final quarter, Mixed & Matched’s defenders didn ever do enough to contain the determined Fast Fob shooters who added another seven points to their tally. Fast Fobs closed out the match with a thrilling three point win, 37
The elimination semi finals were to have been played last night with Mixed & Match to take on Watch & Learn while Fast Fobs came up against KML.
The winners of each game will meet in next week’s final.
