Truck fire causes road closure

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) were called to assist with a truck fire on Shire Road 32 (Development Road) in the south of the Cobar Shire on Saturday morning.

Acting District Manager for the Far West Team, Brad Lennon, said members of the Irymple Fire Brigade (who were closest to the scene) attended to the 000 call which came in from a passer-by at 10am.

Mr Lennon said the truck was towing a grain trailer, and it’s believed a mechanical failure on the trailer led to the fire.

He said the truck driver was not injured and was able to separate the prime mover from the trailer to prevent any fire damage to the truck.

With an amount of grain spilt on to the road from the incident and heavy rain later that day, the road had to be closed for clean up.
