AIMS AND EXPECTATIONS:

In The City School International, we strive to provide a caring ethos where everyone in the school community feels safe, confident, valued and respected. By promoting an environment where everyone can live and work together in a supportive way, pupils are able to reach their full potential, emotionally, socially and intellectually.

The primary aim of our behavior policy is to promote good behavior. We have school rules and the staff do not ignore unacceptable behavior, but having high expectations, being good role models and rewarding pupils enable us to promote positive behavior.

This policy is designed to promote good behavior rather than merely deter antisocial behavior. When sanctions are needed, this policy outlines the expected outcomes for all pupils.

CODE OF CONDUCT:

The TCSI Code of Conduct entails all the Rules and Regulations that must be followed and observed by all students at all times. The Code of Conduct is an embodiment of Law and Order and promises to make out of students better citizens for a brighter future. The Code of Conduct is created with aspects beneficial to a Student’s Overall character and the school as a whole. The students are motivated to follow the school rules through the encouragement and constant reminders by parents, school management, teachers and all the administrative staff of TCSI.

GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT:

• Pupils/students are not permitted to bring mobile phones, IPods, MP3 players and other electronic items to school unless required/necessary for their classes/subjects. In case a student requires to bring his / her mobile phone or any gadgets to school, this should be supported by a note from the parent or there should be a teacher’s permission.

• Pupils/students must maintain discipline in the school bus. Students must respect the bus driver and the bus conductor/nanny at all times. Students must also obey and follow instructions from the bus nanny/conductor at all times especially with regards to behavior in the bus. In case this is not followed, disciplinary action will be taken.

• It is the responsibility of the students to keep their classrooms neat and tidy at all times and see that the display boards are well maintained and informative. Lights, fans and air-conditioners must be switched off when not in use.

• Littering within the school premises inside the classroom is strictly prohibited.

• Loitering in the school corridors and school grounds are not allowed without the teachers’ permission/consent. Junior and Senior students are not allowed to go in the FS Area.

• The school diary must be brought to school daily. It must be used for noting down homework given and as a medium of communication between the parents and teachers.

• Students must not absent themselves before any exam unless study leave has been given. In case a student is absent, necessary action will be taken.

• Leave before long break – summer and winter vacation etc. will not be given unless in case of an emergency. Minimum attendance as prescribed by the Ministry of Education during an academic year is 95%. In case a student does not meet this requirement, he / she will not be permitted to appear for the final examination.

• Students who come to school late, 3 consecutive times will receive a warning and an email will be sent to parents. Sanctions will be given to the student if after the warning, the student still comes late to school.

• Students must be always in their proper and neat uniform. Boys are not allowed to wear earrings or any other inappropriate accessories in school and should be in clean cut undyed hair.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBLITIES IN PROMOTING POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR

The Principal will: Implement the school behavior policy consistently throughout the school by setting the standards of behavior and supporting staff in the implementation of the policy.

• Keep records of all reported serious incidents of misbehavior.

• Report to Governors, when requested, on the effectiveness of the policy.

• Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all children in the school.

• Report to/meet with parents/guardian when necessary.

• Be aware of and understand his/her rights and responsibilities. (see Appendix II)

The Principal has the responsibility for giving fixed-term suspensions to individual children for serious acts of misbehavior. The Principal may permanently exclude a child for repeated, or very serious, acts of anti-social behavior. This action is only taken after the school governors have been notified.

All Staff will:

• Give opportunities to develop interpersonal and social skills.

• Offer a curriculum that enables pupils to engage

• Give the opportunity to work in groups

• Make sure that pupils listen and are listened to and value others

• Help pupils to gain the ability to make choices about their behavior

• Help pupils to be confident about their learning and enjoy it

• Help pupils understand their rights and responsibilities as citizens in our society.

• Be a positive role model

• Reward/praise positive behavior

• Use the behavior log when necessary

• Ensure the pupils in their class know the class and school rules and, where necessary, work along parents.

• Be aware of and understand their rights and responsibilities. (see Appendix II)

Students/Pupils will:

• Listen to others

• Learn/work co-operatively

• Obey all the school rules

• Resolve disputes positively

• Value and take responsibility of the environment

• When necessary, carry out self-monitoring

• Be aware of and understand their rights and responsibilities. (see Appendix II)

• Be aware of their own emotions and actions and take responsibility for these

Parents, Carers and Families will:

• Support the school when reasonable sanctions as a consequence have been used

• Promote positive behavior at home in order to have continuity between home/school.

• Initially contact the class teacher if they have concerns about the way their child has been treated. If concerns remain, contact the Principal then if necessary the school governors.

• Initially contact the class teacher if they feel their child’s behavior, in or out of school, is impacting on the child’s well- being.

• Be aware of and understand their rights and responsibilities (see Appendix II)

The Governing Body will:

• Support the school in the implementation of the policy

• Give advice, when necessary, to the Principal about disciplinary issues so that he/she can take the advice into account when making decisions about behavior issues

• Review the effectiveness of the policy

Procedure:

• If any of the offenses indicated above are committed by any students, teachers should inform the parents of any misconduct or inappropriate behavior of their child in and out of class.

• If the behavior persists or if the offense is repeated, the teacher or any staff who witnessed the offense should report it to the Discipline Committee In-Charge or to the Heads of Section. Parents should be informed of the offense.

• The teacher should fill up the Incident Report Form as he/she reports the incident of offenses (only for physical or verbal assaults). The incident report should be submitted to the Discipline Committee InCharge/Point of Contact.

• The Discipline Committee will deliberate on any sanctions to be given to the student and a meeting with the parents will be held.

Monitoring and Evaluating:

• The effectiveness of this policy will be regularly monitored by the SLT.

• The school keeps a variety of records of incidents of misbehavior, sanction book, Principal’s records.

• Incident Reports are made available for any student misconduct or incidents for future references.

Reporting of Offenses:

• Teachers, students, other school staff may report any offenses directly to any of the Discipline Committee members.

• A log is kept by the Discipline Committee Members

• The Discipline Committee may deliberate or discuss sanction prior to giving it to any student who has offenses.

• If there is any form of physical assault an incident report form should be submitted.

• Parents are informed (vis email or phone call) of the offenses committed by their children in the school or while in the school bus.

• If there are any behavioral issues and if counselling is deemed necessary, the Discipline Committee members may refer the student to the School Counselor.

Trips

Attendance on school trips is a privilege and not an automatic right. If a pupil’s behavior before a trip is consistently unacceptable and they have moved to stage 4 of the sanction procedures, they will not be accepted on a trip.

The school reserves the right at any time to withdraw any pupil from a trip if they are involved in any behavior which we deem does not live up to our school code of conduct.

Review:

Governors/SLT may review the policy earlier if the governing body receives recommendations on how the policy might be improved.

DISCIPLINARY CODE-THE PROCEDURE

The Discipline Committee/Principal will issue written warning after transgressions or offenses are reported and have been investigated. All verbal warning will be followed up by written warning.

If the student is found to be repeating the abovementioned transgression in spite of the disciplinary action, his/her name may be STRUCK OFF THE ROLLS OF THE SCHOOL.

APPENDIX I - Rewards and Sanctions

Rewards:

To reinforce good work/learning, behavior and attitude we use:

All the above sanctions are put in place at the discretion of the Principal/Discipline Committee, and the context and child’s needs will be fully taken into account when sanctions are applied

The Code of Conduct is a fundamental guide to the Rules and Regulations and the School is imperative and robust in taking action in case of failure to abide by the aforementioned Code the Discipline committee of the School shall take necessary action as mentioned in the code, on the advice of the Principal.
