KELLY & KATHY KOSKY GIVING UP OUR “LITTLE PLANS AND DREAMS” FOR GOD’S BIGGER PURPOSE
THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE

KELLY KOSKY MINISTRIES
Through Kelly & Kathy Kosky's ministry of almost four decades, thousands of villages have been introduced to Jesus, hundreds of churches have been planted, and more than 40,000 Xhosa have been baptized. In addition to establishing a Bible college, shelters for orphaned children, and a major HIV/AIDS medical facility, the Koskys are enabling the Xhosa to become spiritually and operationally self-sufficient. The Koskys could easily sit back and be thankful for everything that God has done through their ministry. But they are keenly aware that they have only scratched the surface. The work has only begun. There are still tens of thousands of Xhosa villages that are still in darkness. The Koskys are working night and day to bring the Good News to those who are hopeless without Christ. They pray for the unreached Xhosa and for the resources needed to advance His Kingdom to the remote and isolated villages. They also pray that the Lord will send long-term missionaries to join them in the quest to reach the “hidden-half” of the world.

EDITOR’S NOTE
THE SIMPLICITY OF But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you (Matt.6:6) Oftentimes prayer is being overcomplicated. As a dialogue with our Heavenly Father, we ought to keep it simple, keep it real and keep it up! Someone once said that it’s better to have a heart full of words than to have words without a heart. Jesus suggests in the scripture above to find a place where you can be alone. No distractions. Sometimes that place is in the kitchen while cooking or cleaning. Sometimes that place is in the car while running errands. In the beginning stages of my walk with God the bathroom was the only ‘room’ that was available to pray in. The bathroom prayers taught me to speak from the heart and to forget about finding the perfect words. I would remind myself that I am speaking to my Daddy, He sees everything anyway. I’ve learnt to be consistent; not
8
to stop even during the moments that I did not feel like praying because I felt down or hurt or just tired etc. I realized that these moments are the best to have a heart to heart with Daddy. Today, find a ‘room’, open your heart, talk to your Father, pause, and allow Him to talk back to you. The prayer of my heart is that when you page through this publication, that your faith may be stirred, and your hope renewed. May you find strength in the encouragements and may you again be reminded of the overwhelming, never ending reckless love of God. “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen” God bless you! Claudene Sebolai

LET’S TALK SELF-CARE Is it selfish to set 1 day per month aside (if not more) to self-focus? Absolutely not! Self-care is highly recommended and necessary to maintain a healthy fruitful and love relationship with yourself. Self-care brings about a better balance and wellness to yourself. You need to implement your own self-nurture strategy by nourishing yourself, expressing yourself, encouraging yourself, buying for yourself, taking pleasure in yourself by creating, controlling and embracing your own good vibes. You set the rhythm and tone for yourself, dance with yourself, laugh with yourself, cheers to yourself and ultimately celebrate yourself. In this day and age you need to understand that you matter to you. You are your top priority. If you are in good spirits it will automatically flow on outward. So do you! Be nice to you, forgive you, do not selfjudge you, accept you and love on you! It is your turn to shine on you. Happy Self-care... If God is for you, who can be against you.- Romans 8:31

COVER STORY INSTRUCTOR, ESTABLISHED A MAJOR HIV/AIDS PROJECT IN THE WESTERN CAPE, CYCLED ACROSS EUROPE, AND RAISED SIX SUCCESSFUL CHILDREN IN RURAL AFRICA.
We are delighted to share our chat with Kelly and Kathy Kosky as they open their hearts and home (virtually) to take us with them on a journey down memory lane and impart nuggets of wisdom and insight regarding life on the mission field. If you have nothing but God, you have everything you need to execute your assignment in the earth excellently and successfully. To this the Kosky’s are a living testimony and a true example. If your heart is beating for the mission field, or if you ever wonder “what can I do to reach the lost”, this is the conversation you cannot miss. Grab a cup of coffee and join us as we chat to Kelly and Kathy Kosky.
I was born in Canada to immigrant Jewish parents. My grandfather was the Rabbi at the Orthodox
REV. KELLY KOSKY, YOU AND YOUR WIFE KATHY HAVE DONE SO MUCH IN YOUR LIFETIME. AMONGST YOUR MANY ACHIEVEMENTS: VARIOUS UNIVERSITY DEGREES, SAILED ACROSS THE PACIFIC OCEAN, WERE THE FINANCIAL ADVISOR TO THE GOVERNOR, ESTABLISHED ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL (AND UNIQUE) BIBLE COLLEGES IN AFRICA, YOU PLANTED OVER A THOUSAND RURAL CHURCHES IN AFRICA, WERE A SNOW SKI INSTRUCTOR, BUILT AND RUN THE GRACE CHILDREN’S CENTER IN THE EASTERN CAPE. YOU WERE A UNIVERSITY
Synagogue in Toronto. I grew up going to Hebrew school and was bar mitzvah at Temple Beth Torah at age 13, but soon after I left the Jewish faith and entered my very rebellious years. During my teen years I got into a lot of trouble and was ultimately incarcerated for six months. It was a sobering time for me, and I began to consider what I wanted my life to look like. I felt that I wanted to do something bigger than myself. I applied myself to academics and sports. After finishing high school, I received various undergraduate degrees at San Diego State University and went on to do graduate studies at UCLA, in California. Our website https://www.
YOU HAVE SUCH A DIVERSE AND INTERESTING BACKGROUND; I AM UNSURE WHERE TO BEGIN. SUPPOSE IT WOULD BE BEST TO START AT THE BEGINNING. PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR CHILDHOOD AND YOUR YOUNGER YEARS. REV KELLY KOSKY:
KellyKoskyMinistries.com/ has a lot more information about Kathy and I, and our life in Africa.
DURING YOUR REBELLIOUS AND ACADEMIC PERIOD IN YOUR LIFE, WHERE WERE YOU SPIRITUALLY? REV KELLY KOSKY: Like everyone from the 60s and 70s, I was on a quest to ‘find the meaning of life’. I kept asking myself, ‘What is my purpose?’ I couldn’t find the answer, so I got caught up in the drug culture. After exploring various beliefs, I concluded that there was no real answer, and I was content to simply live a crazy life and always trying new lifestyles. However, the
unanswered question still haunted me, ‘what was the meaning of life?’
DID ANY CHRISTIANS SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH YOU? REV KELLY KOSKY: No. I think that due to my wild lifestyle I was either unapproachable or I was not willing to listen.
HOW DID YOU COME TO KNOW CHRIST, AND WHAT WAS YOUR LIFE POSITION WHEN YOU BECAME A CHRISTIAN? REV KELLY KOSKY: Kathy and I were living in the Rocky Mountains of Montana, where I was a CPA with my own Chartered THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE
17
Accounting corporation. In addition, I was the financial advisor to the governor and also a college instructor. Kathy was the county public health nurse and a registered nurse. We were a young successful family. In spite of our successful lifestyle in a beautiful part of America, we seem to be missing a “greater purpose”. The unanswered question from my youth seemed to haunt me. “What is the purpose of life?”. We finally met someone who was willing to answer our questions about Christianity. After considering the possibility that the Lord was real, I invited Jesus to be my Savior. The first several years of being a Christian I thoroughly believed in Jesus as the Messiah and fervently read the Word and continually prayed. But I never knew the “Lord” Jesus.
HOW COULD YOU BE A CHRISTIAN AND NOT KNOW THE LORD JESUS? REV KELLY KOSKY: I believed in Jesus as the Son of God and Messiah. I trusted Jesus to answer my prayers. I accepted His love and blessings. But I never understood that He is 100% Lord. And if He is 100% Lord, I realized that we were to serve Him 100%. I then realized that in all honesty I was not living to serve Him, but rather I was living for myself and my family and expected Him to serve me. As a result of this life-changing revelation, we decided to make Him 100% Lord and give ALL that we had, and valued, to Him and live our lives in service to Him. Like the ‘rich young ruler’ in Matthew 19, I needed to be willing to give ‘ALL” to Him; if I were to experience the life of Christ.
HOW WERE YOU CALLED TO FULL-TIME MINISTRY? REV KELLY KOSKY: While on a short mission’s trip to a 3rd world country, I was exposed to the multitude of people who were hurting, hungry, and dying to a Christless eternity because there were not enough missionaries to reach those living in darkness. The thought of people going to hell, because I was too selfish to sacrifice my life and will to Him haunted my dreams and thoughts. As I lived and looked at these impoverished people, I began to pray. Then the Lord showed me His heart for the lost and how He weeps for 18
those who are suffering. As a result of this experience, I began to pray for the lost and give abundantly for missions. But the Lord reminded me that I promised to give 100% of myself to Him and His purpose, not just my finances. To be quite honest, I was frightened by the thought that Kathy and I and our family might be called to a 3rd world lifestyle to serve Him. I didn’t want to leave the ‘American Dream’ lifestyle that we had. We were over-educated and had successfully achieved a lot. Then the Lord seemed to say, “Don’t let your education or vocation, ruin the second half of your lives”. We were being called to give up our ‘little plans and dreams’ for His bigger purpose. For more information and pictures of our African mission click on the following link to our website https://www. KellyKoskyMinistries.com/
WAS IT DIFFICULT TO GIVE UP ALL THAT YOU WORKED SO HARD FOR AND PACK UP AND FOLLOW HIS CALLING? REV KELLY KOSKY: I had confessed to giving ALL to
THEN THE LORD SEEMED TO SAY, “DON’T LET YOUR EDUCATION OR VOCATION, RUIN THE SECOND HALF OF YOUR LIVES”. WE WERE BEING CALLED TO GIVE UP OUR ‘LITTLE PLANS AND DREAMS’ FOR HIS BIGGER PURPOSE.
Him, but I didn’t know if I could give 100% to Him. I found myself fighting with God. But, as you very well know, God always wins. Finally, Kathy and I came to the place in our lives where simple words and empty promises would not appease the calling of God. We came to the place of surrender and made a commitment to give ALL to Him.
WAS IT HARD TO OBEY AND GO? REV KELLY KOSKY: After we surrendered all; It was not hard to ‘go’, but rather it would have been hard to ‘stay’.
HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO
COME TO THE EASTERN CAPE? REV KELLY KOSKY: Kathy had always wanted to go to Nepal, while I was drawn to Latin America. We applied at 52 mission organizations and were turned down by all because we were too old (mid-30s), no theological training, too many children (six very young children), no denominal or large church backing, and because we had a charismatic background (ordained Vineyard) no mission organization wanted us. Regardless of the obstacles, we felt ‘called’ to give our lives to reaching the lost of this world. We received a call from a missionary friend, telling us about the Republic of Transkei. We never heard of this country. It was the homeland to the Xhosa. Neither of us wanted to move to Africa, but the Lord doesn’t always send you, where you want to go, but rather to where He is calling you. We had heard that there were approximately five million Xhosas in the Transkei and only 5 missionaries. THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE
19
We knew that the Lord was calling us to a region where Christ wasn’t preached. Paul writes to the Romans, saying “I have aspired to preach the gospel where Christ was not known” (Romans 15:20). We heard firsthand reports that there was very little being done to reach the Xhosa in the Transkei. In following Paul’s calling, we made a 40-year commitment to work among the remote villages in the Transkei reaching the unreached and unchurched. Feel free to browse through our picture gallery on our website at: https://www. KellyKoskyMinistries.com/
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FACED UPON ARRIVAL IN THE EASTERN CAPE? REV KELLY KOSKY: Even though I had been to 3rd world countries before, Kathy and our six young children were in culture shock upon landing in Umtata. They had never been exposed to the abject poverty and the fact that we stood out as the only non-Xhosas in the area. It was very difficult at first not knowing the language. It was rare back in the mid-80s to find anyone in the Transkei who would be able to speak English. Under President Matanzima’s reign there was a curfew every night, where we could not go outside. We had no electricity for the first few years, so we lived on powdered milk and non-refrigerated food items. We collected water off our roof, to have water to drink and bath in. We came to the Republic of Transkei to bring the Gospel, but we didn’t know how to share with the people about Jesus, without knowing the language.
THAT BRINGS UP A GOOD QUESTION; HOW DO YOU FUNCTION WITHOUT KNOWING THE LANGUAGE? REV KELLY KOSKY: The first year we focused on four 20
KOSKY'S HOME things. (1) establishing a home where we could live and home-school. (2) Getting an understanding of the culture (which was very different from America), (3) building trust and relationship with the local people, (4) language acquisition. Every day after breakfast and before we started out home school, we would work on learning the language. When you are immersed in a foreign culture, you learn the language very quickly. Within the first year, we acquired enough of the isiXhosa language to effectively communicate. The children learned it much quicker than us.
YOU HAVE ESTABLISHED ONE OF THE LARGEST (NONDENOMINATIONAL) MISSIONS IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN
REGION. HOW DID YOU START WHEN YOU HAD NOTHING TO BUILD ON ? REV KELLY KOSKY: Before I answer that question, I need to remind you that technically we did not live or work in South Africa. In the 80s it was the Republic of the Transkei. South Africa was south of the Great Kei River and South Africa required its own visas. But to answer your question, after we built relationship among the people, we began to receive invites to various villages that either didn’t have the Gospel or didn’t have a church. We gathered with the villagers into a crowded rondoval (small hut). The meetings would usually start after sunset and go all night. We shared a basic Gospel
in isiXhosa, (3) it is the only Bible college in southern Africa that is completely governed by indigenous black leaders, (4) student don’t have to relocate to the urban cities of South Africa, but rather the Bible college is located in Willowvale, which is in the rural Eastern Cape, and lastly (5) we do not charge any fees to attend our Bible college.
WHY DON’T YOU CHARGE TUITION FEES LIKE OTHER BIBLE COLLEGES? REV KELLY KOSKY: message of salvation. By midnight we would normally see 80100 villagers come to Christ each night. At sunrise we would take a break for some tea and bread, and possibly take a short rest. But when we began the day services, it was usually focused on discipling the new converts or it would be a healing service, where many people would come to be healed. Read more on “Reaching the Unreached” on our website at: https://www. KellyKoskyMinistries.com/
WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN BY A “HEALING SERVICE”? REV KELLY KOSKY: During the all-night evangelism meeting, we would talk about the healing power of Jesus, and challenge the people to bring those who are sick and have physical infirmities to the morning services to be healed. The people believe what we were telling them and because of their faith the Lord would heal most of those who were brought to the ‘healing service’. In addition, many people were delivered of demons at the healing service. Word quickly spread, and soon hundreds of villagers invited us to bring the Gospel to their villages and to pray for those who were sick or needed healing or deliverance. Within the first few years the Lord used us to establish
hundreds of churches. And now after three decades of ministering in the Transkei, the Lord has used us to establish over one thousand churches.
IT IS EXCITING TO HEAR ABOUT THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF NEW CONVERTS, BUT THE GREAT COMMISSION DOESN’T SAY, “GO INTO ALL THE WORLD AND MAKE ‘CONVERTS’ OF ALL NATIONS”. WE ARE CALLED TO MAKE ‘DISCIPLES’. WERE YOU DOING ANY DISCIPLING OR FOLLOW-UP TO THE NEW CONVERTS OR THE NEWLY PLANTED CHURCHES? REV KELLY KOSKY: That is a very good question. We had many ways to disciple the new believers, but after the first ten years of ‘one-on-one discipling’, we realized that we needed to train up many Christian leaders who could disciple the new churches and the new converts. As a result of much prayer, in 1998, we built and established Gatyana Bible College, which focuses on discipling and training up local leaders. This is a very unique Bible college, in the following ways. (1) we don’t require a matric certificate to attend our Bible college, (2) we don’t require the students to speak a westernized language (English or Afrikaans), as classes are taught
We can’t find anywhere in the Word of God where monetary compensation is required to receive the Word of God. If we can’t find a biblical bases for charging money to learn the Bible, then we can’t justify charging tuition to those who are hungry for the Word.
WHERE CAN WE GET MORE INFORMATION ON GATYANA BIBLE COLLEGE? REV KELLY KOSKY;
Go to www.KellyKoskyMinistries. com or email the dean of Gatyana Bible College at SiphoMaqhinyana@ gmail.com.
WHAT YOU AND THE MISSIONS ARE DOING SPIRITUALLY SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MINISTER TO THE SOCIAL ISSUES FACING OUR COUNTRY? REV KELLY KOSKY: In addition to the schools, clinics, and economic development programs that we have established in the Eastern Cape, we have built and established Grace Children’s Centre in Butterworth. This facility cares for and ministers to the pre-school aged children. We not only nurture the Xhosa children in their life skills but also minister to their Spiritual development. In addition, we have built and developed an HIV/AIDS facility that ministers to over 78,000 THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE
21
disadvantaged people annually. We are working to transfer this project to the Dept of Health.
YOU LOST YOUR LEG IN AFRICA. DO YOU MIND TELLING US ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW IT HAS AFFECTED THE MINISTRIES? REV KELLY KOSKY: Approximately 10 years ago, I was riding my bicycle on a remote rural road, when a lorry with two trailers fully loaded with bricks knocked me down and crushed and ripped off my right leg. In addition to seeing my leg taken off, I was rapidly bleeding out. With a make-shift tourniquet, I was transported to a clinic where they cleanly amputated my leg. I wasn’t sure what life would look like after a crippling accident. But I had a choice; to get bitter or get better. I wasn’t going to abandon the call to reach the lost. I chose to “getup” not “give-up”. After several months of rehabilitation, I returned to the mission where I continued to minister in the remote Xhosa villages. I realized that you don’t need two legs to minister the Gospel.
DO YOU MIND ME ASKING YOUR AGE? AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU AND KATHY BEEN MINISTERING IN THE EASTERN CAPE? AND WHEN DO YOU PLAN TO RETIRE? REV KELLY KOSKY: I have recently turned 70 years old. Kathy told me not to tell you her age In the mid-80s we made a 40-year commitment to serve the Lord where most people are not willing to go. We have only been ministering in the remote areas of the Eastern Cape for 34 years. So, we have six years remaining on our commitment to the Lord. After the next six year, we are unsure where He will call us next. We are hoping to remain in Africa. But that would be up to Him. Retirement ??? . . .ummm?? When 22
you do what you enjoy and are passionate about what you do, then you are already living a fulfilled life. I have never found a mandate in the scriptures about retirement. You are welcome to check us out on our website to see if we are retirement material, https://www. KellyKoskyMinistries.com/ I hold firm to the belief that we are called to “re-fire”, not retire.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST REGRET IN GIVING UP YOUR COMFORTABLE LIFESTYLE IN AMERICAN AND COMMITTING OVER HALF YOUR LIFE TO
REACHING THE XHOSA FOR CHRIST. REV KELLY KOSKY: Our biggest regret in giving ALL that we had for His service, is that we didn’t do it sooner. We wasted too much of our lives on ourselves, our little plans, and little dreams. We wish we would have yielded sooner.

FRESH INVESTMENT IDEAS By Dion Roos
We all want more from life. We want to live a good and meaningful life. This is how we generate hope, by believing that there is something new for us to discover, fresh for us to share and fulfilling for us to experience. Sometimes life will gift us a reward that we haven’t had to work for directly, but for everything else, it is a constant cycle of trade-offs. We have many resources at our disposal, from skills, knowledge and time, to money, assets and relationships. In a world that is easily distracted by materialism, it’s easy to become focussed on the physical investments we can make into our present and future wellbeing. But there are many investment ideas to keep us balanced, and intentional about our choices.
INVEST YOUR TIME We can spend time on an activity, or we can invest time in an activity. One way to bring balance and fulfilment is to learn to manage your time, to not feel like you have wasted it.
Who you spend your time with, where, why, and what can help you reflect and identify more profound value in your life.
INVEST YOUR MONEY No future is ever certain, but we can certainly reduce risk (mitigation) and bolster financial security in the future when we invest our money. This doesn’t always mean that it has to be invested in the markets or financial vehicles; you could also invest in the people around you by supporting them financially. Economically empowering others shows a strong social awareness and can be uplifting on a larger community level.
INVEST YOUR ENERGY Between careers, friends, family, health, and everything else inbetween, balancing your lifestyle can be a challenge. Apart from investing your time, different activities require different levels of energy and engagement. Social media and technology
have made us ‘always online’, and this unfettered presence can be a significant energy sapper. We may not think that we’re spending large batches of time, but the energy that we invest (or waste) on conversations and journeys of thought that are sparked by a social media post or a video call, can be immense. Yes, this may mean reducing your social circle, but it could just mean applying more intentionality around how you invest your energy. A secret to investing energy is to find activities and relationships that revive, refresh and inspire us.
INVEST IN YOURSELF Try doing at least one thing that makes you happy each week. It is not selfish; rather, it’s about recognising that you’re important, and nurturing yourself needs to happen before you can encourage and enable others. Investments of value are not just those that involve the exchange of money; they are multi-faceted and crucial to finding value, meaning and fulfilment in life.

HEALTH
By: Pharm. D. Donovan Wessels BEFORE YOU GET INFECTION
I am pharmacist based in Johannesburg and I recovered from COVID-19. I had a combination of symptoms over a period of 10 days or so. Below I am sharing my journey, although very briefly and what helped me in my recovery. Day 1 -3: I felt extremely cold, then bad headache, horrible sinus pain and even more horrible earache! Funny only my right ear was affected. I also had very mild loss of sense of taste. Day 3/4 - 8/9: I had extreme body pains followed by extreme tiredness and the bad dry cough. During this stage I also experienced a loss of appetite, and a seriously bad cough (contemplated going to hospital). My breathing was not affected. Day 9 onwards: I could feel that my body started getting better and stronger.
28
Boost your immune system with the following : 1. Zinc tablets 50mg a day 2. Vitamin C 1000mg daily (since I’m a healthcare worker I started taking zinc and vit C beginning of April, got infected mid-June or so, I believe these vitamins helped my body to fight the virus) 3. Learn to clean/wash your nose with normal Saline or salt water and gargle your throat as well. 4. Learn to breath in and out to increase your oxygen levels in your lungs. Practice this when even when you do not have COVID-19. 5. Practice doing steam inhalation using Vick’s or eucalyptus oil or umhlonyane.
IF TESTED POSITIVE Keep calm, you will get through it. God has got your back. It is important to have the right mindset and not be scared. 1. Continue Zinc tablets and increase to at least 100mg daily. 2. Vitamin c 1000mg 3. Take a multivitamin once a day (the virus causes extreme fatigue). 4. Clean your nose and throat twice a day to reduce viral load. 5. Do steam inhalation twice a day. It is helps with increasing oxygen levels. 6. Cough mixture - Pholtex Forte Syrup helped me a lot. Coughing is hellish. 7. For headaches Panado would give relief. Two tabs 3 times a day. 8. Disprin cardio tablets - one per day to avoid your blood clotting. 9. For blocked nose , I took Sinutab because it did not make me drowsy. 10. The doctor will prescribe Azithromycin 500mg daily and Prednisone depending on how bad your lungs are. I trust that this information will help. Please remember to adhere to the COVID safety rules and listen to your body. Manage the symptoms. Rest. Drink lots of water. Also remember that God is your healer.

PASTORAL INTERVIEW
PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELVES AND HOW YOU CAME TO MEET WITH THE LORD. As a couple we are both strong rooted, firm believers, purpose driven who has a heartbeat for God and His Kingdom. We met in a youth service where Apostle Peter, at the time served as one of the youth leaders. Rose came to know Christ as her Lord and personal savior in the year 1982, in a community hall in Retreat. Peter dedicated his life to Christ in 1975, at a tent campaign, this is where his love for evangelism began.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE AND ARE THEY ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN MINISTRY WITH YOU? We have 4 kids, Justine sadly passed on at the tender age of 21 after a battle with cancer. The remaining 3 kids are Tersia, Peter junior and Daniel. Tersia is active in ministry as the worship leader both Peter and Daniel are not active in ministry yet.
HOW AND WHY DID YOU 30
START HOUSE OF DESTINY COMMUNITY CHURCH? The calling had always been upon our lives to start our own ministry, but we needed God to confirm the timing. We both served for 40 years at Maranatha Pentecostal Church. We were senior Pastors for 10 years and it was during this time God called us to start our own ministry. The cry of the community was the sound of the call. We were based in Lavender Hill and realized that the harvest our own backyard was plentiful, and we needed to heed to the call of God. As hard as it was, we had to be obedient in bidding farewell to our church family of over 40 years and pursue the call of God on our lives.
WAS IT EASY TO NAME THE CHURCH? HOW DID THE NAMING COME ABOUT? Christ is the center of what we do, and the local community is the space where we were commissioned to demonstrate the love and power of God’s kingdom. We wanted the
name to represent a home, a place of refuge where lives can forever be changed through the power of Christ, hence House of Destiny Community Church. Rose had a dream where God confirmed the name.
HOW HAS THE CHURCH TRANSFORMED FROM WHERE YOU STARTED TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW? We originally started in a scout’s hall in Steenberg with +/- 50 members. This year the church will be 3 years old. In the second year we moved to our own church grounds, based in the Lavender Hill community as God had shown us. Today the church has over 100 members and are currently busy with erecting the church building. It is as the saying goes: “Where God guides He provides!”
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE IN REACHING YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY? Currently COVID-19 has been the biggest challenge in reaching the community.
HOW DO YOU GET YOUR CONGREGANTS TO PARTICIPATE IN CHURCH LIFE? DO YOU HAVE SPECIAL MINISTRIES ETC.? There are various departments within the church. The kid’s ministry, youth ministry, men’s and lady’s ministry, worship team, ushering ministry and dance ministry. Weekly announcements are made to encourage members to become involved and the cell leaders identify within their respective cell groups where members are best suited. They offer guidance in this regard. We believe in utilizing the unique gifts and abilities of our members in order to fulfill our God-given mandate. We do offer training as the scriptures encourages us, to equip the saints for effective ministry. We are a family, and a family that prays together and labors together, stays together.
HOW HAS COVID-19 IMPACTED YOUR MINISTRY GOALS FOR THE YEAR? With lockdown most of the projects the church had in mind was cancelled. Majority of our services were offered online and over WhatsApp platforms. However, we have made considerable progress with our church building. All glory to God!
WHAT WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO FEELS LED TO CHURCH PLANTING? Firstly, ensure that your vision is directed by God! Starting something is oftentimes accompanied by challenges and obstacles. Secondly, make sure that God confirms the move. After 40 years of serving God’s people at the previous church, to many this may seem like a long time, God called us to launch out. If God had not called us and confirmed His calling, then it would not have worked. Had it been earlier, it would not have worked. WAIT on the Lord. He will on HIS time confirm. God Bless!

AUTUMN/WINTER TRENDS
Keeping up with 2021 trends will be a breeze as we’re seeing tons of repeated trends and individuals simply just doing their own thing. Comfort is definitely the priority! By Andrea Hartzenberg
FLORAL SKIRTS
AS WE TRANSITION FROM SUMMER TO AUTUMN SHOULD WE BE PACKING AWAY OUR FLORALS TILL NEXT SPRING/SUMMER? NO! PAIR THOSE FLORAL SKIRTS WITH YOUR FAVOURITE PAIR OF BOOTS, LONG SLEEVE TOPS AND IF YOU’RE HAVING A BAD HAIR DAY THROW IN A HEAD WRAP AND YOU’RE GOOD TO GO. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO ROCK THIS LOOK SO HAVE FUN WITH IT.
We have seen and increase in loungewear in 2020 as we were forced to change the way we live and even dress. Loungewear is not a new trend; just came to love it more. While loungewear keeps us comfy on those lazy days it has also proven to be quite fashionable and versatile. Be it a wide legged, tights/jogger or shorts set, it can be dressed up or down according to your need. Pair your shorts set with stockings and boots and you’re good to go for an easy day or night out. Feel like dressing up but still can’t cut ties with your comfy set? Pair it with a coat, heels and layered jewellery and you’re set.
We have seen a repeat of the biker look for many years. If you’re not too keen on the bold look you can change it up to suit your style. Wear a leather skirt instead of pants with a flowy sleeveless top and the look is instantly softened. Pair a leather pants with your favourite t-shirt, sneakers, and coat. Wearing leather does not have to be intimidating. Whether you love the boldness or prefer a more subtle approach to dressing, leather is for you if you choose to make it your own.

Capes have made a comeback and we are here for it. Styling the Cape Blazer is a no Brainer, no hassle task. Lunch date or on-site work meeting on one of those warmer Autumn days? Easy! Pair the Cape Blazer with a dress (stockings optional) or pair it with a pair of trousers and pointy stiletto and you’re set. For those colder days polo neck and trousers or skinny jean will prove to be just as perfect. Play around with it and see what works for you.

TRENCH RAINCOAT
Kimonos
SPEAKING OF BASICS, SEEMS LIKE THEY NEVER DISAPPOINT. THE TRENCH RAINCOAT AND BASIC COMBO IS A LOOK ANYONE CAN ROCK! WITH THAT BEING SAID, REMEMBER TO ALWAYS EMBRACE YOUR OWN STYLE WHETHER YOU WANT TO PAIR YOUR TRENCH WITH A FLORAL SKIRT AND MILITARY BOOTS OR SHORTS, T-SHIRT, KNEE HIGH SOCKS AND BOOTS OR EVEN A HEEL; I ASSURE YOU IT WILL ABSOLUTELY WORK.
We are living in uncertain times, now more than ever there is no need to put up a façade or even compete with anyone. All you have to do is Be your authentic self! Love yourself! Embrace your style and really just be who you were always meant to be. -Pictures by Happy Pixels
Kimono made by Kalisius
have become a staple in all our wardrobes through all seasons. Kimonos are that one thing that literally goes with anything. Not in the mood for the endless search for what to wear? Pull out those basics! Basics could be a jean and t-shirt be it long or short sleeve. Your basic could also be a dress or top and skirt. Next step go ahead and pair it with your favourite kimono and dress it up or down with your choice of shoes and jewellery. As simple as that.
COATS
Out comes all those gems that have been hanging in the back of our wardrobes since last season. My personal favourite clothing items are coats. In my opinion no coat style ever goes out of fashion. Coats keep us warm and make us look put together whether it’s being dressed up or down. Coats are timeless and should be styled according to your preference. My advice to you on this one is simple… Do you!

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
WORKING FROM THE By Gabriel Doxa Hamici Over the past twenty-five years; Facebook, Youtube, WhatsApp, Google, Amazon, Telsa were all brand names that were either non-existent or barely known. They only existed as dreams and visions in the lives of thenunknown individuals. However, we see today that these brands have completely reshaped the way we live our lives and they are paving the way to the future that our children will live in. All combined, the companies owning these brands have generated in 2020 an annual revenue exceeding $200 billion, and they are valued at a few trillion US dollars (way higher than the annual budget of many African countries). These companies were founded by dreamers who managed to assemble all the necessary tools allowing them to take their dreams and ambitions to the next level. And while we are all impressed and amazed at the milestone these commercial giants have been able to achieve, very few of us realize that these success stories represent only a tiny fraction of what can be replicated numerously. Entrepreneurship is the base of every economy, it contributes to the socio-economic development of the population by offering many different opportunities, and creating employment. For instance, Amazon alone has contributed approximately $385 Billion to the US GDP and has created more than 2 million jobs within the past 10 years. Imagine if time travel was a possibility and that I had the opportunity to travel back to 1994, trying to convince Jeff Bezos not to venture into the creation of Amazon, consequently, numerous lives today would be negatively affected as an immediate ripple effect. A country that seriously envisages winning its fight against poverty, and envisages rising to the level of World economic giant has to apply extreme diligence in creating and establishing structures that allow Entrepreneurs to emerge easily because many great dreams and visions carrying the potential to transform the future never see the light of the market place. After all, dreamers are choked and entangled in the rat race of recurring bills. What is important to note here is that dreamers and visionaries are the raw material of Entrepreneurship and countries that are serious about improving their economy have to develop and establish different types of entrepreneurial skills development programs that identify 34
and targets this unique breed of individuals and ensure that they acquire the skill set necessary for them to build and manifest their unique business idea into a commercial reality. This will cause the birth of a diversified range of businesses that will efficiently impact the growth of the economy positively. At the Breakthrough Academy (www.tbacademy-sa. com ), we have engaged in creating the young and emerging millionaire development program which is an entrepreneurial skills development program that focuses on offering a platform where dreamers can be identified and offered unique training that enables them to understand all the practical steps required to be a successful businessman/ woman. This program does not only aim at offering skills but also at developing a funding system that will allow future entrepreneurs to access the capital needed to start up their business venture. We are also looking at creating a network of businesses co-existing in interdependence. The concept of this development program is designed to create an endless cycle that produces skilled Entrepreneurs capable to train other individuals into becoming entrepreneurs as well. Seeing how negatively Covid19 has affected and destroyed many people’s livelihood, it is imperative to facilitate the roll-out of such programs within the curriculum of matriculates and post matriculates to ensure that individuals are given the tools they need to transform the future and become the next Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos or Mark Zuckerberg. As long as there is no established system in the development sector of the economy that focuses on turning dreamers and visionaries into successful entrepreneurs, the possibility of socio-economic transformations that impact the generation to come will remain further and further away. To invest or participate in our entrepreneurship skills development program contact us: doxa@thebreakthroughacademy.co.za.

AS HE IS, SO ARE WE!
By Prophet Throne Hamici CHRIST IN ME
In the letter to the Galatians chapter 2 verse, 20 Paul states that “ I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Covid-19 has shaken the entire world and left many with unexpected challenges. Many questions are in the minds of individuals from every corner of the world in this season. Many people have lost their jobs, loved ones, marriages, and relationships have been broken. It is important, therefore, during these very critical and challenging times, to be reminded of the words of Paul, that Christ lives in us and we live by His faith! Once we meditate on that truth and accept it we will be able to find meaning in misery and purpose in pain.
Christ in you sees the Christ in me. It is towards that end that Pauls says in 1 Corinthians 6 verse17 “ but he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” Only the Christ in me can see the Christ in you. God created us in Him so that He could find Himself in us. The more mature we grow and educate our minds in, Him the more we will look and act and live like Him. As He is so are we! Now, imagine if a family, a church, a community, and a nation awaken to this reality. What would this world be like? Time for the manifestations of the Sons.
CHRIST THROUGH ME Saul’s encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus transformed him completely, from a zealous Pharisee who persecuted the church to an Apostle who planted many churches and continues to inspire us even today. He went from a religious monument to a Kingdom movement that went through much persecution both internally and externally. Saul, whose name was changed to Paul, needed much help from God. He needed patience, resilience, endurance, long-suffering, etc. from God to continue his new assignment. All these qualities and characteristics were found in Christ who later became Paul’s life. As with Paul, Christ also lives in us and we live by His faith! Imagine that for a moment. The faith Christ had to raise the dead, heal the sick, multiply a meal, etc. That’s the faith we live by.
CHRIST FOR ME Christ is the very expression of God Himself in us. The Greek meaning of Christ is Christos and in Hebrew Messiah, which is the anointed one. So if Christ is living in us and we are in Him then we are in the anointed One of God and the anointed one of God is in us! For that reason we need to see each other through those lenses, the THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE

EDUCATION
THE NEED FOR MORE THEOLOGIANS...
in today's world In a time of crises, such as death, war or similarly the recent pandemic, we often start asking questions about our existence. What is the essence of being human? What is the purpose of life on earth? Do we live by fate or by the freedom of our choices? Is there a life beyond death? These are questions we have all asked at some point in our lives and that originally gave birth to Theology. Now more than ever theologians are of great importance in our chaotic world. Faith is a powerful force that influences many groups and individuals and informs our ways of being and progression through life. Studying theology heightens our awareness and understanding of religious and spiritual perspectives by shining a light on the motivations of ourselves and others in a cultural context, making it an incredibly broad discipline. Developing through the churches, it has formed the foundation of many great universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Yale, who owe a lot to the churches and their desire to train people within the Christian tradition. The modern
38
institute is now set up to cover a wide range of disciplines and is no longer simply a discussion about God, but a discussion on how faith influences society and how our faith in God has been recorded in written traditions. It involves history, psychology, sociology and text study, so in many ways explores what constitutes our current day reality. Cornerstone Institute, based in Cape Town also began by offering training to prospective ministers that were denied access to higher learning facilities in the early seventies. Having progressed over the past fifty years they have innovatively developed a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) in Community Leadership, which aims to provide access for Grade 12 learners to a degree programme. Equipping them with skills to be more effective leaders in the community, in the areas of psychology, church and parachurch leadership and community development, as well as offering a Higher Certificate in Christian Ministry. This shows there are many benefits of studying Theology that go beyond a better understanding of life. Gaining an appreciation
for different perspectives is fundamental in any situation and theological grounding can inform and develop skills, life choices and leadership styles. Theologians often go on to work in a diverse range of professions from psychology, law, journalism, teaching, community development and counselling. What sets Cornerstone apart is they give special attention to the relationship between theology and its cultural perspectives, particularly within a South African context as well as explore how theological discourse demands intellectually and practically rigorous engagement with a range of contextual issues in contemporary society. Humans are social beings and are drawn to positive influence. How we act in public, amongst our colleagues, on social media and with our family and friends can impact on society in small but remarkable ways. By understanding and respecting differences and recognising the motivations of others, can invoke more empathy, which is why we need more Theologians in today’s world.
If you are interested in pursuing a BA in Theology or a Higher Certificate in Christian Ministry perhaps take the time to explore it further on the Cornerstone Institute site at www.cornerstone.ac.za
PRAYER OF SALVATION Father God I come to you broken, lost and a sinner. There is nothing I can do to save myself from sin or judgement to come, I need You Lord. Thank You Jesus for what You did on the cross of calvary for the world and especially for me. Thank You that You died and took my place. Father, I ask that You apply the blood of Jesus to my life, wash me with Your Word and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Today I accept Your free gift of salvation and ask that You make me your child. I understand that becoming Your child is not based on what I’ve done or who I am but based on who You are and what You have done for me. I accept Your love, sacrifice, forgiveness and healing. Come take Your place on the throne of my heart and fill me, mark me for eternity. Transform me into the likeness of Christ Jesus my Lord. Sustain me with Your power and grace and enable me to walk in Your ways all the days of my life. I lay down my old life and I take up Your new life. I am now a new creation, a child of the most High God. I give You my heart dear Lord, I commit my life to You, empower me to be and do all you have ordained for me. Amen

HUMAN RIGHTS Now is the time! BY TAMMY LENDORE The national holiday is dedicated to commemorate the memory of those who defied and protested against the system of Apartheid and racism in South Africa. On 21 March the communities of Sharpeville and Langa townships embarked on a march to protest Pass Laws. The police shot and killed 69 protestors, many of whom were fleeing, in what became known as the Sharpeville Massacre. News of the Massacre filled the international media space and exposed Apartheid for what it was, an unequivocal violation of human rights. The day also celebrates the progress made towards the recognition of human rights in South Africa and all newly established freedoms such as our Constitution, which has been hailed as one of the most progressive in the world and is the ultimate protector of our human rights. These rights include Equality, Human dignity, Freedom of movement, the right to Life and the right to Language and Culture. The purpose of the holiday is to teach us to celebrate, embrace, respect and appreciate our country’s vast and diverse culture, faiths, beliefs and religions. For most of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 a number of our human rights and freedoms which we have enjoyed have been curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The celebrations, concerts, theatres and other spaces for education and entertainment have been closed to prevent social gatherings of large numbers of people in efforts to limit the spread of the virus. For the most part South Africans have been compliant with the Lockdown Regulations. However, there has been a growing sense of impatience, disillusion and discontent with some of government’s rationale. A popular point often brought up in faith
42
based conversations: “Why can there only be 50 people at a place of worship but they must travel there in a full, sometimes overloaded taxi?” Now is the opportune time to reflect on these rights, which people have sacrificed their lives for and which we have enjoyed since the advent of democracy. Now is the time for conversations on how to protect these rights given the circumstance of the Global Pandemic. Now is the time to interrogate whether the ‘new normal’ which has infringed on our constitutionally entrenched rights is our acceptable way forward if we are to survive and thrive during and beyond the Pandemic .
A HEART ACCORDING TO GOD PASCAL MALONDA
One day, all hearts will be laid bare before God and each and every one will face the mirror of one's soul. On seing the seasons and the events that have punctuated our existence passing before our eyes, a strong conviction will be engraved in us and we will clearly know if we have been or not someone according to the heart of God. If society likes considering people according to their achievements, it i an entirely different matter in the eyes of God, because the greatness of a person is determined by the size of his heart. Through this new book, the French author brings us to examine the state of our heart, because not only does the success of our life depend on it, but also our final destination. He gives us three pieces of advice that will enable us to ensure we have a heart that pleases God. Follow Pascal Malonda on www.pascalmalonda.com contact@pascalmalonda.com

MARRIAGE
ACTIVELY CHOOSING LOVE
About Us - We first met at a college party during Alisha’s sophomore year of college, then I (Dustin) reached out a few months later on facebook. We were 19 and 22; and have been together for almost 6 years, being married for 1.5 of them. We have two dogs, one angel baby (we suffered a miscarriage this past year), and we currently are on the journey of trying to conceive again. Alisha is deputy registrar for vital records at our local health department, and I am a youth corrections officer.
WAS IT LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT OR FIRST FIGHT? Alisha: For me it was definitely love at first fight. I always cared a lot for him, however it wasn’t until we had our first major disagreement that I realized I actually did love him - the thought of losing him was unbearable. Dustin: It was love at first sight for me, even if I was too proud to admit it in the moment. I knew, from the second I first laid eyes on her, that she was special. I was the first to strike a conversation with her - even though she may have acted like she was not interested. I kept the conversations going through facebook until she FINALLY agreed to go on a date with me.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE FAMILY, WORK AND MINISTRY LIFE? Dustin: This is a difficult question to answer because, honestly, it is something we are still figuring out. I know for me, personally, there was a season where I was so 44
devoted to working on ministry, on my calling, that I neglected nurturing our relationship. I think it is finding that special balance - of putting God first, but still cultivating your relationship with your spouse.
HOW DO YOU RESOLVE MARITAL CONFLICT? Alisha: It just really depends, honestly. I want to say that we always sit down and effectively communicate but that wouldn’t be true. We’re human and sometimes we yell and have adult tantrums. Afterwards is what is key for us. We step away and process our feelings and do our best to validate each other’s views, even when we don’t understand. I always try to remember we have the same goal - a happy marriage and to fight for one another not against each other.
UNITY IS VITAL TO A HAPPY AND HEALTHY MARRIAGE. HOW HAVE YOU COME TO THIS POINT OF UNIFICATION? BASED ON THE PICTURES FROM YOUR FB ACCOUNT YOU SEEM TO HAVE A VERY GOOD UNDERSTANDING WHICH IS VITAL TO A HEALTHY MARITAL RELATIONSHIP. Dustin: This was one of the most difficult things for us to come to as we are both independent people. What changed for us was the revelation of how important covenant is to God. That we were no longer two individuals committed to a relationship, but that
“LOVE IS NOT EASY, YOU DON’T FALL IN LOVE AND STAY THAT WAY. LIFE HAPPENS, SO IT’S ABOUT ACTIVELY CHOOSING LOVE.”
our rings symbolized two truly becoming one flesh! Also understanding the role that God intended for the household and each of us appropriately taking those roles; the husband as the spiritual head of the house and the wife as the support - the rib - the one who guards and protects. Once we gained this revelation, we realized we were not losing a piece of our old identities, but we were actually enhancing ourselves because we were coming into God’s pre ordained, divine alignment called unity!
AS AN INTERRACIAL COUPLE, DID YOU OR DO YOU EXPERIENCE CHALLENGES FROM SOCIETY? IF SO HOW DO YOU HANDLE IT AS A COUPLE? Alisha: Unfortunately we do face a lot of scrutiny. It’s not always blatant but the whispers and stares do occur. I struggled with this in the beginning, but not so much anymore. We don’t allow our skin tones or cultural backgrounds to define us as a couple simply because God has aligned us so beautifully that those become the footnotes of our story.
ANY WORD OF ADVICE FOR NEWLYWEDS? Dustin: Fights are going to happen, don’t shy away from having arguments, but do understand that having open communication is essential to moving past the argument and solving the underlying issue. Listen to your partner and have the humility to understand that you may be doing something that hurts them without even realizing it, especially you men who are reading this. Alisha: Love is not easy, you don’t fall in love and stay that way. Life happens, so it’s about actively choosing love. Always pursue your spouse. See what works well in your relationship and make it great, see what doesn’t work and find ways to fix it together. Most importantly build the foundation of your relationship on God because he never waivers even when emotions do.
MONEY IS OFTEN A MARRIAGE KILLER. DO YOU HAVE A SET WAY OF HANDLING FINANCES? WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND HOW DID YOU GET THERE? Dustin: This was always one of the biggest arguments we had in the beginning of our marriage. The argument always stemmed from different philosophies on how we should steward our money--I like to save, while Alisha likes to buy new shoes. We both paid bills, but would argue over who was spending more. Once we truly realized we were one flesh, we thought why would one flesh have two bank accounts? By simply joining bank accounts, we eliminated that fight of who’s paying of certain bills was more important. My paying of the house mortgage was not more important than her paying of the utilities because it all came from one account - our joint account. I think a joint bank account is a perfect reflection of the unity of two flesh becoming one!

The mystery of the love of God is intended for manifestation. The reality of the love of God personified in Christ was made available by the death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus is now seated in heavenly places by living in His throne, His Palace, His City, His Zion, His Church who are His people. “To them God willed to make known what the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles are: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Col 1:27). The mystery! A God living in human beings – the place of spiritual activity. This is the reality of God’s people. Revelation 17: 5 also refers to people as waters. (Rev 17: 15 clarifies that ‘the water which you saw, where the harlot sits, are people, multitudes, nations and tongues.’) The harlot who sits upon the people is a picture of the spirit of religion (not God’s creation but man’s invention) which has shifted the Church far from who God intended her to be. As leaders we allowed the Church (intentionally or unintentionally), to be stuck in the ‘process of church services’ and programs rather than ‘being’ the manifested house of God. The Church became a place of ‘religious’ gathering rather than a place of spiritual activity to change the world, a place of refuge for the broken, lost and destitute. The processes of Church life, sadly, have become the mediums for many believers to access God. Branded mammon imported worship replaced pure heart worship which has the look, feel and touch of Babylon – the one cannot be distinguished from the other. A kind of worship that stirs emotions rather than worship the King. Heart to heart individual conversations with the Lord was replaced by a type of corporate worship becoming the medium for upliftment, emotionally stirrings and accessing God. Altar calls are lined up with Christians who have full access to God rather than unbelievers thus making a mockery of the birth, death and resurrection and Jesus. The Church also got caught up in studying the Bible through study aids (which is not bad) and relegated the Holy Spirit, the greatest teacher, to become a back bencher in our walk with Him. Revelation 17 warns the Church of 46
FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD… By Pastor Ravi Naicker
Jezebel, the ‘great whore’ who sits upon many waters. Is this why the reflection of God in a people has become blurred to the point that the world questions our authenticity? The glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea when the people of God manifest Christ – this will lead to world evangelism like never seen. The New Testament prophets walked in this through signs, wonders and miracle. Changing the status quo requires repentance by leaders. Let us start to preach Christ and get rid of the itchy ear syndrome once again. Our gatherings should be realigned to the heart of God. We must get back to personal encounters rather than singing about Christ as if He is not in the room, talking about Him as if He is not in the room, teaching about Him as if He is not in the room – rather than simply manifest Him. Maybe, just maybe Christ is not in the room? Is God perhaps not talking to us in this time of COVID-19 lockdown? Why would a God who is sovereign allow His Church to be ‘locked out of their own buildings’? Is God perhaps not telling us ‘let my people go out of the bondage of a programmed, religiously processed Church?
ENCOURAGEMENT
SETBACKS AND OBSTACLES ARE CHANCES TO GROW By Pastor Clayton Gabriels Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Perseverance, in this very topsy turvy times, is imperative to understand and have a working knowledge of. It is also expedient, I believe, as a first port of call, to know that the word ‘perseverance’ is often interchangeably used with the word ‘endurance’. This, of course necessitates that we have an accurate definition of the word, to eliminate erroneous understandings and subsequent misappropriation and application thereof. So then, perseverance/endurance in its most basic form can be defined as follows: It is the ability (power) to carry on despite the urge to want to give up, and throw in the proverbial towel, in the face of adversity. Synonyms are words like tenacity, singlemindedness, determination, and persistence. Our walk / relationship with God is often referred to in terms of a (faith) RACE THAT WE RUN. Let me draw your attention to Hebrews 12:1-3. “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame...”
RUN THE RACE WITH PATIENCE. As the author of Hebrews so clearly state; it is done by “FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS”. Having your eyes FIRMLY fixed on Jesus is the key element of running with perseverance. When our eyes are not fixed on Him, we will be distracted by the vicissitudes of life, and be tripped up. This idea is clearly demonstrated when Peter walks towards Jesus on the water. While his gaze was FIRMLY fixed on Jesus, he was able to walk on the water. The instant he took his focus off Jesus he started to sink. So then, BROKEN FOCUS will cause you to sink (Matt.14:22-33).
LOOK AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS. The Amplified Bible introduces us to a further aspect of “fixing our eyes on Jesus”, namely that it is also a “looking away from all that will distract us and focusing our eyes on Jesus,” So, central to endurance is the “looking away from” that which distracts us and “looking unto” or firmly fixing our eyes on Jesus. Which brings me to the Book of James (1:2-4), because it teaches along the same lines when the writer, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, mentions perseverance/ endurance in terms of the “testing of your faith”. [v2] Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, [v3] knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance [v4] And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Hebrews 10:36 sheds a little lighter on the subject when it says, “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.” Look at Jesus’ words in Luke 21:19, “by your endurance you will gain your lives.”
SAVED THROUGH PERSEVERANCE. The three Hebrew boys in the Book of Daniel were literally saved through their perseverance. Remember, they went into the furnace as three, but in the fire, they were four. He joined them in the fire because they persevered and did not buckle under pressure. That beloved, is grounds for rejoicing. I want to encourage the readers to take courage and to run with endurance. Let us therefore adopt the Hebrew boys’ attitude which certainly demonstrates the idea of perseverance. Daniel 3:16-18: “Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. BUT EVEN IF HE DOES NOT, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE

“Those who sow in tears shall reap with joy”

A RAY OF HOPE In the midst of my darkest moment
A TURN FOR THE WORST Life begins at 40! When I look back over my life I can now only agree wholeheartedly with that phrase. I used to think that life falls apart at 40. And did my life fall apart. Yes! The unimaginable happened. My 10-year marriage to the love of my life ended in a bitter divorce. I was left with nothing but two young boys of which the youngest has cerebral palsy. I was also retrenched and my baby daughter of 10days passed away. Life did not just beat me to my knees, it knocked me unconscious! I was beyond devastated and had no hope for a better future. I did not think anything good could come from my calamity. Not to mention, I only had a Grade 3 certificate. It felt, at the moment, that my life has ended. I had nothing to hold on to, but my 48
unemployed women, set up a space in his factory, and produced what was expected of me. Little did I know, that would be the beginning of my journey as a businesswoman. Although I had nothing to start with, I had God by my side, and He made all things work together for my good. Although I suffered the pain of betrayal, the sting of death and was challenged economically, I refused to succumb to the darkness that surrounded me. The faces of my children inspired me and push me to get up, dress up and show up!

With only a Grade 3 certificate, and no idea of how to run a business, I turned my eyes toward Jesus, and allowed His Spirit to lead and guide me. Business started picking up slowly. I faced many challenges, and constantly had to resist the urge to quit. To date, I have two factories, and more than 140 employees. Both my sons are happily married and I have 5 beautiful grandchildren. God has blessed me exceedingly, abundantly, above all I could ever dreamed or imagined. “A woman is the full circle, within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform”. This quote by Diane Mariechild amongst
WOMEN IN BUSINESS others, is a true reflection of the power we possess. That power comes from God who is the Ultimate Creator, in whose image and likeness we are created. I want to encourage the readers; no matter what life throws at you and how hard it hits you, you have it in you to start over and become the best version of yourself, as God has purposed and planned. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of it all! God bless.
HANNA’S PLACE OF SAFETY
Touched by an Angel
WHO STARTED THE NPO HANNAH’S PLACE OF SAFETY AND WHY? I am Janine Fabe and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I am married to Dion Fabe and we have 5 kids of whom Hannah is our adopted daughter since 2007. In 2016 i resigned from my job at Zoom Footwear & Accessories after 17 years of employment. I held the position of sales manager and product developer and have travelled extensively every 2 months to China, UK, and USA. The last 2 years of my working career has been difficult as the tugging on my heart became stronger and stronger to take care 50
of abandoned/orphaned/abused children. To care for unwanted/ unloved/uncared for children has always been my passion. I guess my late dad was my inspiration as he was an orphan from the age of 7 years old to 18. I saw the struggles he faced even as an adult as nobody really cared about him while he was growing up in the orphanage (called Bonny Town in Cape Town South Africa). I decided about 12 years ago to do some voluntary work at an orphanage called Christine Revell and they house about 60 kids aged 0 to 6yrs old. Lots of these kids are removed from their parents
because of abuse/neglect etc. At this orphanage I met Hannah when she was only 5 days old. She was an abandoned baby and found under a motor bridge. At Christine Revell orphanage I often got the opportunity to take kids home for the weekend, which was awesome. When Hannah arrived at the orphanage, I asked what her name was as all the other kids had names and was then informed that she was an abandoned baby and doesn’t have a name. I was also told that she was placed at Christine Revell temporarily because there was no other facility at the time that could accommodate her. By the 2nd weekend the
COMMUNITY orphanage was having an outing and Hannah was a bit young to be going with the rest of the babies and toddlers and I was asked if I could take her for the weekend. I agreed and it was the best thing I have ever done. As a family we connected instantly with Hannah and we could not imagine her becoming an orphan. We swiftly made enquiries to foster/adopt Hannah. We had to foster for 2yrs and then only could we apply for legal adoption. Hannah has been our baby for the past 13 years and is well adjusted all round. She has kindest and softest nature ever and she is very intelligent and loves reading(a little book worm). Hannah’s Place of Safety was birthed in honor of our daughter Hannah Fabe in 2016.
WHAT DOES THE NPO HANNAH’S PLACE OF SAFETY DO? We render a free of charge service to the Department of Social developments caring for children in need of care and protection. The duration of each child’s stay can range between 3-6 months case dependent. We work with ages newborn up to age 1 years old. Most of your babies are born from drug addicted parents and Alcohol users / we also care for babies who have been removed from their families due to circumstances.

POETRY
Lee-Annjoe van Wyk (Poeticallee) I entered this world as an infant Pursuing to be a person that’s benevolent But the more I became aware of my true quality I started dismissing my originality I hated standing out Being unique, made me wanna shout . So I became obsessed with changing everything that’s superficial You better watch out, I’m detrimental The more I tried to change I realised I’m worse off than an animal captured in a cage Too focused on finding a place for my flaws to reside I neglected to embrace my greatness situated deep inside What I thought was a new perception Became the ultimate deception Switching masks and reinventing myself at the moment seemed like something cool That didn’t work out cause I just ended up looking like a fool How could I be so blind and not see that I’m blessed? Ignorance made me believe that life’s only good when you’re a mess Hurting myself became the new habit Thanks to self-destruction my world was shattered Someone please call the police I can no longer keep my demons on a leash When I stare at my reflection in the mirror The only thing I find familiar is the exterior For too long I’ve been oblivious and avoiding my calling Too afraid of rejection and falling So I started pushing God away And I paid more attention to what these people had to say 52
In public I’m a born again Christian But in private I’m a sinner committing sin Putting up a facade became more and more natural So much that I became out touch with the spiritual My talents I tried to burry But they kept chasing me so I decided to run away in a hurry My only wish was to be mediocre But when I started playing that game soon enough I found out I’m a choker Safe looked so appealing Later on I even stopped dreaming But as fate intended amazing grace found me just in time God welcomed me back and said : “ child you’re mine” For too long I’ve been editing His masterpiece Treating myself like I’m an incurable disease What the world and I rejected He perfected I’m still not where I need to be But thanks to God I regain my vision and yet again I can see I’m not ashamed of my past ,its something I’ll always embrace Thanks to it I have first-hand experience of Grace All I need to do, is depend on God and the rest He will arrange
Madness, madness!! Why can I shake the sadness? To many choices Too many voices Which one to pick? Which one should stick? The enemy masquerades as an angel of light, How do i even begin to conceive what is right? This is a fight! This is a fight! Please help me LORD to do what is right. The LORD is my shepherd i shall not want But that is exactly what I want, To be lead by the Spirit To be totally committed To the One who gave it all for me How then do I begin to see? I can only offer my life to thee, And pray to You who hears indeed. Lead my life oh LORD give me your Spirit and your sword To fight the good fight And win this battle Only by your might.

YOUTH
LOOK AT OPPORTUNITIES
inNew Ways Ways
By Cheswyn Ray I was raised to be God-fearing and have been blessed with the talent to take people on a musical journey. I was born and bred in Worcester, a town in the Boland region surrounded by its majestic mountains. My musical journey started long before my face appeared on national TV. As the youngest of four I grew up in a home where my dad was the assistant pastor of the Pentecostal Protestant Church. It was between these four walls that I not only used my Godgiven talent for the first time at the age of 10, unbeknownst to me that it would later become a career. For that reason, God will always be the centre of who and what I am. I was taught joy comes in the morning and not to start your day without speaking with God. This has moulded me to start my morning and end my day with quiet time, talking with God. After completing my school career in Worcester, I pursued my tertiary education at the University of the Western Cape. In 2019 an opportunity presented itself that was the start of Cheswyn Ray’s musical 54
journey. I was told by a friend about the Maak My Famous talent competition hosted by Emo Adams. My friend also encouraged me to enter the competition. After weeks of competing with fellow talented artist I was voted as the inaugural winner of Maak My Famous. The win took me on the road with Emo Adams, not just performing at events but also working with him behind the scenes – which for me was a dream come true. I saw this opportunity as the one shot to start my formal music journey. The road since winning did not come without its challenges. I was taught from a young age to always turn my eyes upon Jesus, because my help comes from the Lord. Throughout my life whether it was something good or challenging I would turn to prayer because prayer holds power. I draw my strength from the strong support of my family and friends and in return I try to spend free time with them. I also enjoy ice-cream and walking on the beach. I grew up in a community
where role-models were national and international figures, and not individuals who grew up in the same streets as me. My vision is to be the change I want to see. By not just achieving something but to be a role-model and encourage young and old that you can achieve anything, and that role-models walk the same streets as us and share our backgrounds. In life we are presented with opportunities and we never know which is just that one we need to make a dream or goal a reality. I want to encourage our youth to grab the opportunities knocking on your door with both hands. Whether that is completing your school career under difficult circumstances, studying after matric or a job opportunity. For 2021 I have multiple plans and projects, like releasing new music and working with community organisations. Covid-19 however taught me to reflect and take things day by day. Making the most of the moment we in now and to be thankful for what we have.

CELEBRATING SINGLES
THE SILENCE OF BEING SINGLE By Jay-Dee Prins About two years ago, as I was spending undivided attention on a youth Pastor’s sermon, I immediately became aware that most of the people I knew there were single. Now from what I have perceived during the past years of my young life, was that being a single woman is such a thorn to some elders. It bothers the beetles out of my seniors that I am not married and have no crayon marks on the kitchen walls. According to ancient theory being married before the age of thirty gives you ten steps forward to a full life. Conclusions like these startle me, because many young men and women have allowed this seed to engrave their veins. The chase becomes real after the twenty-five mark, especially for women. The biology clock does not stop for you. The pressure is real and can cause mental and emotional confusion. It robs the holistic woman of becoming whole unto herself, or that is what some philosopher probably would have said. By saying this, I am acknowledging that I somehow felt found and left behind among all these coins floating in the air. However I also stare at my reflection and pass on that times have changed and the tides running to shore is increasing in height. It is trampling down all the fences our ambassadors of the life clock have built up over centuries. Yet still I am totally convinced that God’s design for marriage is still so much more reachable than we think. Promises are broken every day, lies are told by the second. Individually, we can’t change the whole culture. We can certainly change our own views and prioritize sound decision making. Have I ever felt lonely? Well uh … do you remember athletics in kindergarten? Starting together and then realize in the split of a second that you’re first, but from behind. Eventually reaching the finishing line and observing that the sweets the winners are devouring can be bought later by Dad, even better ones. So yes I have experienced 56
loneliness, but not from the absence of Mister Muscles. Since, you can’t hear me laughing. I am crying because the loneliness gets real-real. I have found myself at times quoting Juliet, from Shakespeare. “Romeo! Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?” Then my inner being would giggle, although Romeo does not want to be found. I had to deal with so many of my self-reflective questions during “isolation”. The death demand we hear in cycles, is that Christians don’t have sexual intercourse until they’re married. So, please teach us. What are we allowed to do when we’re single? Can we hold hands? Can we kiss? Can we date? How do we guard our hearts? However, being lonely does not actually mean that you’re alone. We just don’t know the rules of the path to selfdiscovery. This is the best season to dissect the perniciousness and virtuousness about you. Imagine praying for rain but not preparing yourself for the mud and puddles that comes with it. One of the best gifts I could give myself was a sound choice of company and acquaintances with whom I shared my thoughts and prayer requests. The path of discovery is wandered by many, who is searching not to find but to be found. On this road opposites attract and similar souls blend. Tyler Perry once stated that the reason people fall so quickly from the wagon of unity is merely because they have not been in all four season of the person they have fallen in love with. So profound! Does it determine my overall worth? Absolutely not, I truly believe when single men and women begin to walk broadly in the “isolated” assignment, great things will happen. Men and women will be drawn to each other on this path as God has ordained it. When it happens, God’s beautiful design will once again bloom, as men walk steadfastly toward kingdom glory, with women beside them. Time, truth, commitment, faith, patience and prayer will take you there. You might be in the fields now, but you will soon wake up in the Palace. Ask Ruth, the wife of Boaz. You’re not losing dear friend.

The ”Subtle Destroyer” Destroyer”
“It had just about stolen everything from me, my sanity, time, dreams, and family”. My name is Quincy Jacobs and I am a recovered and restored former drug addict. For almost 20 years I was addicted to various substances. I came to know addiction as a “subtle destroyer”. It does not prepare you for the deep, dark journey it takes you and your loved ones on, a harrowing journey down a dark abyss. Addiction is to many a slow death, which sadly many out there do not get the opportunity to be resurrected from. You live to feed your craving; your own selfish needs and desires take pre-eminence over the voice of reason and you find yourself in the unwanted position of having no way of stepping out from this dark hole that your addiction has dug for you. Addiction has left many out there with permanent scars, they find themselves losing loved ones while in their addictive state. Sadly, some never have the opportunity to reconcile with their family members. I cannot begin to explain how drug addiction led to deep depression, suicidal thoughts, negative self-talk, and condemnation. It is a living hell that I do not wish upon anyone. I was so deeply entangled in it that my personality changed from a fun-loving and happy person to a sad and miserable, reclusive individual who could no longer communicate easily with anybody. Feeding my habit became the most important daily activity. Addiction took away every ounce of honesty to the point where I stole from my own loved ones. No addict wants to go through the ruthless process of addiction, suffering, and torment. I don’t believe any sane person wants to put their families through all that anguish because of their choices and decisions. My journey, as with so many others started with Dagga and alcohol while still in school. I would
58
say that it started with innocent fun, trying to impress my peers and fit in with the popular crowd. I never thought that I would find myself graduating to hard drugs, however, in the year 2000, while studying Journalism I found myself experimenting with Ecstasy tablets and LSD. I gradually moved on to the highly addictive substances “Rocks(crack cocaine), cocaine, Kat, Crystal Meth, Mandrax, and Heroin. My years abusing Crystal Meth, Heroin, and Mandrax culminated with me finding myself on the streets, a hobo, scavenging through dustbins looking for anything of little value that could help me feed my addiction. I frequently ended up in jail for housebreaking and drug possession due to the urge to satisfy the demonic craving for drugs. I have a praying mother, one who never gave up on me, regardless of how low I stooped. I now know that her prayers protected me from madness and death and it eventually led me to the throne room of God, where I found my release and redemption. My restorative process was and still is not easy; it takes hard work, patience, and perseverance. Through it all God restores and I’m blessed to have become a husband, a son my mother can be proud of, and a member of society who adds value. What many don’t know, where addiction is subtle and devious God can still bring release for all to see. He will raise you in a society that once ridiculed, rejected, and scorned you. Continue praying, push and continue fighting! you who they call addict, embarrassment, outcast and useless. Remember that destiny beckons, your generation needs you and your time to change is now.
The founders of House of Glory are David & Cecilia Verhulst. House of Glory exists of 3 main pillars. The Þrst pillar is a movement on the streets of South Africa. Praying, Praising and Preaching the uncompromised Gospel of Jesus, the Christ. Second pillar is a free School of Ministry - God’s Marines in townships. People get equipped by in-depth teachings. Third pillar HOG roars with intercessors from all continents for the nations in the earth via Facebook Live & Zoom.
Street Church
One of our missions is to be on the streets sharing Jesus to all who are interested. (Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 14:23). What joy we had taking up authority in Christ and with our praises, declarations, blowing of the shofar, using of tambourines and ßags and music, dance, prayers and preaching God shifted the powers of darkness over the territory of Kwanokuthula and we saw how the Holy Spirit added 295 new souls to His Kingdom. Baptisms, miracles, healings, deliverances and also many baptisms in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues happened. The Holy Spirit was conÞrming with signs and wonders as we preached the gospel. People repented from ancestral worship and got free from the curse that hindered them to have a peaceful live.
Lots of people got baptised on the streets. Working together with Space of War ministry who has a truck and tank available we were able to baptise the people right in front of their houses. We gave them certiÞcates and free bibles provided by Bible Society. Two churches were born out of doing Street Church every Sunday morning from 8am-10am and sometimes x3 in the midweek from 5pm-6pm in the Township of Kwanokuthula. Apostle Livingstone and his wife plus the help of Pastor Lydia pastors the one and Pastor Theo and his wife pastors the other one. Local Police Station Commander Colonel Kunge assisted greatly and we have weekly prayer meetings in his office at the Police Station in Kwanokuthula. Currently crusades are planned. All honour and praise to our great Saviour and God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Radical change comes when the word is cemented into one's very DNA.
This course will cause major change in one's perception of the Kingdom of God. With this God Commanded Training people return to their base equipped with word-based knowledge to exercise their God given authority and mandate. After this glory encounter people are able to train their church to a higher level in God’s Kingdom.

THE POSTURE OF OUR HEARTS!
By Edrich and Mercia Wannenburg
THE PRIORITY OF WORSHIP True worshippers are not defined by vocal ability or great performance skill. Worship was never meant to glorify self or to give us just another feel-good, emotional rollercoaster, goosebump experience. No! The purpose of worship was never to bring forth a spirit of entertainment and pride , but to birth a new hunger, renewed respect, and reverence whenever we enter into the presence of the Holy One. It is in the presence of God where nothing else matters. Have you ever found yourself in a crowd yet alone with God? Eyes fixed on the One who created us for His pleasure with 60
the desire to only worship Him in the beauty of holiness. A journey from the outer court into the Holy of Holies, in perfect alignment with the Word of God – to worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24 ‘ Yet a time is coming and now is ,when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.’ It is from that place where we as worshippers can pull heaven down to earth. Knowing full well that as it is in heaven so shall it be here on earth.
THE PURPOSE OF WORSHIP Revelation 14:2 states so beautifully:
“and I heard a new sound from heaven…the sound I heard was like that of harpist playing their harps and they sang a new song.” The moment that we begin to understand the importance to train our spirit man to a place of silence, even as we worship, then God by His Spirit will lead us prophetically into a dimension where we will not just hear as it is in heaven, but we will be able to release from heaven. And that is the portal for new songs to be written and new downloads to be released straight from the throne room. When God Himself begin to rejoice over His people with singing (Zephaniah 3:17) than the
worshipper “steps out “to make room for the King of Glory to enter in. The earth is groaning in anticipation for the revealing, for the manifestation of the true sons and daughters of Christ. Those who are set apart for God’s service and for His glory. Those who do not use the anointing of God upon their lives to gather their own crowds , but who will point beyond themselves to Christ. God is seeking after worshippers who will prepare the way for Him! End time worshippers who will lead His people into prophetic declarations that will break every sound barrier, that will change the atmosphere and leave the enemy in total confusion. When we raise our banners of worship God will raise up a higher standard over our lives.

MUSIC
IS LEKKER During the pandemonium of the Covid-19 pandemic, Cape Town’s very own talented and anointed sisters, Destined released their new single titled “Overcome”. Destined, a vibrant duo that consists of two sisters with amazing voices, a passion for music, singing and a great love for the gospel of God. Sister’s, Monique, and Stacey grew up singing in church, through the means of choir and praise teams. Growing up in a musically orientated family, the buzz of music was always something that came naturally to them, hence their passion for it. The name “Destined” was inspired by a renowned artist in the gospel industry who has mentored the duo in preparation for their very first single titled Victory. Consequently, they walked away with the title of “Best Newcomers” at the Victory Gospel Music Awards in 2016. In addition, both of them performed on different platforms as backing vocals for recognized artists both locally and internationally such as Wilmot Fredericks, Noel Robinson, Loyiso Bala, Lusanda Beja, Jazzathon, BelovedSA, The Gathering etc. In January 2021 Destined

YOUTH
I CAN’T BREATHE By Tammy Lendore The Greek translation of breath is pneuma. In the religious context it refers to the Spirit or Soul. I CAN’T BREATHE is a slogan associated with the Black Lives Matter Movement in the United States of America. It originates from the last words of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who was killed in 2014 by the New York City Police after being placed in a chokehold. More recently, those were the same last words of George Floyd. Another black American man who’s death was witnessed by millions after a video went viral
66
showing a police officer with his knee on Floyd’s neck. I CAN’T BREATHE is a slogan which now lives in infamy in our society and modern culture. Indelibly etched into our MINDS. For nearly a year the world has been gripped by the COVID 19 Coronavirus Pandemic. The Wikipedia definition for Coronavirus: A disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus. The connection between the two is that many who are seriously attacked or who have died, have the same problem as Eric Garner and George
Floyd. THEY CAN’T BREATHE (As a result of developing Pneumonia). People are dying because their BODIES can no longer breathe. Our Minds which we need to survive in society is under attack and evidenced by the Black Lives Matter Movement and its slogan. Our Bodies which we need also to survive, and function is under attack and evidenced by COVID-19. BUT our Souls: Those are not governed by our Minds or our Bodies. Neither Society nor Biology. Genesis 2 verse 7: And the Lord formed man of the
dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (i.e. Pneuma); and man became a living soul. GOD BREATHED HIS PRESENCE INTO HUMANITY FOR HIM TO BECOME A LIVING NEPHESH. Ezekiel 37 v 5 and 6: Thus, saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring flesh upon you, and cover you with skin and put breath in you, and ye shall live, and ye shall know that I am the Lord. Read also verses 9 and 10. Matthew
AND THE LORD FORMED MAN OF THE DUST OF THE GROUND AND BREATHED INTO HIS NOSTRILS THE BREATH OF LIFE (I.E. PNEUMA); AND MAN BECAME A LIVING SOUL. 27 v 50: (of the NIV) And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He gave up His spirit. In other words, He gave up His breath or pneuma. It is at this point in the Matthew and other Gospels that Jesus had died. The point to remember it that Jesus death was not the end because in 3 days, He would resurrect as the Christ. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father and acts our advocate. With Him and in Him we too are heirs to the Kingdom! What is it that you depend on to breathe? Can you with conviction agree with the worship song that: This is the air I breathe, Your holy presence living in me. And I, I’m lost without You.
N O S S E L E L BIB A DYNAMIC DUO
And after reading these kids Bible lessons about superheroes, you may be wishing for a superpower of your own! What would it be?! When you think of the “Dynamic Duo,” you probably think of Batman & Robin! But after we receive Jesus as our Lord & Savior, we are no longer depending on our own strength; He gives us a partner! Well, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He gives us His Holy Spirit to live within us – talk about SUPERPOWER! WOW! BAM!! SHAZAM!!!! Don’t think now that it’s all over! Our journey with Jesus is just beginning! LOOK IT UP: Open up your Bible to Romans 8:9-11, and you will see it say that Jesus (Christ) lives within us through His Holy Spirit! Your Bible may say “dwells” or “indwells” which both mean to “live in”. Turn to Philippians 1:6 in the New Testament and see what Paul says about this work that Jesus has begun in you! He didn’t start something new in you for you to finish; He promised He will keep on working on us to make us more and more like Him! We may doubt because we can’t see the Holy Spirit. We can’t see the air either, but we can see when it moves the leaves on the trees or we hear it and feel it blowing! Look in the Gospel of John 3:8 to see what I mean!
S
THINK ABOUT: Go outside and see if the wind is blowing. Let it remind you that even though we may not see God, we can know He is with us and all around us and in us! REMEMBER: God is for you! Jesus is our ONLY hero and desires to lead us each and every day as our Captain. We can trust Him with our life now and our life forever! PRAY: If you already have accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord (Captain), thank Him for saving you! Pledge your allegiance to Him; tell Him you want to live for Him and serve Him every day from now on! And thank Him for living in you by His Holy Spirit! MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLE
DURING COVID-19 By: Claudene Sebolai
The mental health and wellbeing of the whole society has been severely impacted by covid-19 and must be considered a priority that needs to be addressed urgently. Many people are distressed due to the immediate impacts of the virus and the consequences of physical isolation. Fear of infection, dying, losing family members, stress related to economic situations etc. is prominent. Shantell Stephens shares her testimony of overcoming, not only Covid-19, but also mental health issues.
be confined to one space. For a normal person it is easy to multitask especially doing various house chores. But for me it was extremely difficult. Too many things at the same time would trigger the anxiety attacks. I would break out in a sweat, feeling sick and getting chest pains, just because I have to cook and clean and tend to the kids. So, being confined to the bed with all the COVID-19 symptoms and mental health issues, was the most difficult time for me.
“YOU SHALL LIVE AND NOT DIE”
My road to recovery started when I finally acknowledged that I have a problem. I was ashamed of talking about it and reaching out to find help. I never wanted to be labeled as mad or crazy. I confided in my husband who was such a great support system. Sometimes all you need is to have somebody you trust who can remind you of the self-care or coping mechanisms that are easy to forget during crisis times. Many times, people with mental health issues chooses to suffer in silence due to the stigma attached to it. I learned that it is nothing to be ashamed of. Mental health problems are common. It is sometimes the people with the biggest smiles and joyful personalities that suffer inwardly. I can only thank God that He kept me throughout these episodes. I may not be where I want to be yet, but I am also not where I was. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
I struggled with anxiety and panic attacks for many years. It was so bad at some point that I could not stand being outside and would oftentimes lay in my room, listening to music while feeling like I am in a deep dark pit. The automatic negative thoughts and emotions that accompanies it would overwhelm to the point of paralysis. When the doctor wanted to prescribe medication, I refused because I did not want to be labelled as “koekoes” (crazy in Cape Colored Slang). During both my pregnancies I had severe episodes. During my first pregnancy I was working in what I believed was my dream job. At the workplace I faced so many challenges while being pregnant. The pressure of work and the pregnancy became unbearable to the point where I had a mental breakdown. I was not medically diagnosed but I knew that meltdown was more than just exhaustion. Many times, I would lock myself up in the house and just lay in bed. It got to the point where I had physical symptoms like someone who is about to get a heart attack. I had a sharp pain in my chest, I had no feeling in my left arm, I perspired profusely and was nauseas. I remember praying and 68

asking God how he could let my die while being pregnant with my girl child. I am grateful for my husband who remained calm throughout my episodes and strengthened me with prayers and words of encouragement. Quarantine was not a walk in the park for me. It aggravated the panic attacks and feelings of depression. Being claustrophobic, it was difficult to

ASHLEY JUDD’S NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT IN CONGO
At the time of the incident, American actress Ashley Judd, was working in Congo at a research camp which studies an endangered species of apes called bonobos. In an Instagram Live with The New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, Judd spoke about how she was in an “ICU trauma unit in beautiful South Africa, which has taken me in from the Congo, a country I deeply love which is not, unfortunately, equipped to deal with massive catastrophic injuries like I have had.” Judd further explained that the experience illuminated the privilege she held as a person of means visiting the Congo. She also stated that, “The difference between a Congolese person and me is disaster insurance that allowed me 55 hours after my accident to get to an operating table in South Africa.” She detailed the “incredibly harrowing” experience, which “started with five hours of lying on the forest floor” until she was able to be evacuated. She spent the ordeal “howling like a wild animal” and biting down on a stick to try to alleviate some of the pain. Judd shared pictures of the grueling accident on her Instagram page. “I’m in a lot of love. I’m in a lot of compassion, and I’m in a lot of gratitude” said Ashley. We pray for a speedy recovery Ashley Judd.

SOUTH AFRICA LAUNCHES VACCINE DRIVE More than a third of all Covid-19 cases in Africa have been in South Africa, with a new variant of the virus accounting for most of the new cases. On February 1 South Africa received a million doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca formula but decided against administering it over concerns of whether it would protect against a widespread variant and instead went with the vaccine by Johnson & Johnson. A maternity nurse at a hospital in Khayelitsha township in Cape Town was the first to be immunized. After five healthcare workers got their jabs, it was Ramaphosa’s turn. Before taking off his jacket and rolling up a long white shirt sleeve, he asked the nurse administering the jab if there would be any side effects. “This day represents a real milestone for us as South Africans that finally the vaccines are here and they are being administered,” he said as he left the hospital to go to parliament. Furthermore, the president predicted that “this is a new era for us”. To date, the vaccines have been distributed to more than 30 vaccination sites across the country. We continue to pray for our country. Nkosi Sikelel’ Africa!

Xhosa-speaking bible college > Under the authority and accountable to African Christian Ministries > In association with Kelly Kosky Ministries > Willowvale, Eastern Cape, South Africa > Established 1999 In 1998, while building a permanent mission station, Sebadine, one of Kelly's leaders, suggested that he believed the Lord wanted the mission to start a Bible college. Kelly was reluctant to do this. Because he had never been to a Bible college himself, Kelly felt unqualified. But Kelly and the mission were open to do whatever the Lord was calling them to do. After several years of prayer, the Lord established Gatyana Bible College (GBC) in the Transkei.
GBC is unique in many ways: 1. GBC is the only Bible college in the world that teaches the Word of God in the Xhosa language. Other Bible colleges require students to learn one of the “white man’s languages” (English or Afrikaans). 2. GBC allows local leaders to study the Bible in their own culture, their Xhosa homeland. 3. Other Bible colleges require the students to relocate to the more westernized cities of South Africa. 4. GBC does not require a high school diploma for admission. The only requirement is that students be able to read and write in Xhosa. 5. GBC is the only Bible college that does not charge students to pay tuition in order to study the Word of God. The Xhosa are a very impoverished people, with little or no money. GBC believes that nowhere in the scriptures does Jesus, Paul, or any teacher/ rabbi ever require payment from anyone to learn the Word of God. Accordingly, GBC does not charge students fees for studying the Bible. 6. GBC is the only Bible college that is governed by indigenous Africans (with the exception of Kelly). Almost all other African Bible colleges are governed by prominent white theologians. This governance has been an example that the national Africans are very capable of leading their own ministry. 7. G BC is registered and recognized by the national government as a nonprofit organization, and it complies with all the regulations of a registered trust.
