Stormont County Plowing Match
STORMONT â&#x20AC;&#x201D; Not to be confused with next year â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s International Plowing Match & Rural Expo, the regular Stormont County Plowing Match runs this Sat., Oct. 11. See page 5 for a schedule of the traditional test of agricultural skill featuring both tractorand horse-drawn plows. The event kicks off with a 9 a.m. registration at Huybregts Farm, just south of Crysler on County Rd. 12.
Russell debate tonight in Embrun
EMBRUN â&#x20AC;&#x201D; The Township of Russellâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s next all-candidatesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; debate is set for tonight Wed., Oct. 8 at the Embrun Community Centre (8, Blais St., Embrun). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The debate kicks off a half hour later.
Village flushing continues
NORTH DUNDAS â&#x20AC;&#x201D; North Dundas Townshipâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s waterworks contractor, OCWA, will be flushing Chesterville and Winchester hydrants through Oct. 24. There may be brief periods of discoloured water in those villages, but the water remains safe.

Candidates make Ingleside impression Carolyn Thompson Goddard Record Contributor INGLESIDE â&#x20AC;&#x201D; The Lancer Centre at RO School in Ingleside was full to capacity as more than 225 people spent just under two hours listening to the candidates for school board trustee and municipal council at the â&#x20AC;&#x153;South Stormont Meet the Candidates Nightâ&#x20AC;?. Nine of the 10 candidates for South Stormont Council were present, with each having three minutes to present some biographical information as well as their campaign platform. Issues discussed included the infrastructure, fiscal responsibility, improving service to residents and the need for council to work together as a team as they move together to the future. Incumbent Councillor Richard Waldroff is proud of the work done by this council, particularly in the field of asset management and feels that the township needs to be prepared for the financial challenges ahead in view of the probable reduction in funding from the upper levels of government. This need for financial responsibility was coupled with the requirement for improved infrastructure (roads, ditches, sidewalks) by many candidates as well as improved communication between residents and council. They also bedazzled their hosts with a bit of Stormont-style sunflower colour and scarecrow attitude, as the delegation debuted the official mascots of the 2015 IPM â&#x20AC;&#x201D; set to take place Sept. 22-26 outside Finch.
