While we couldn’t agree more that Obergurgl is a top destination for your luxury ski vacation, we found the article insightful from a first timer´s point of view. If you are considering returning to Obergurgl, or just looking to discover a new place to spend your next ski holiday, read on for our summary of the best six reasons to come to The Chalet at 11° East, inspired by welove2ski.com.

The Size of Resort Obergurgl is a small resort. Despite gorgeous scenery, a lovely atmosphere and a long ski season, the resort itself has managed to stay a very manageable size. The high street is only a handful of bars/restaurants, a small supermarket, a few shops and a cluster of hotels.

What this means for you is virtually no lift lines, a family friendly atmosphere and no clubs or loud music keeping you awake past your bedtime.

The Location Obergurgl is at the end of The Otztal Valley which means the resort doesn’t attract many

weekenders, despite being quite accessible. If you’re coming from Innsbruck, the much bigger Solden resort comes first, and most skiers don’t go much further. This plays a major part in keeping the resort crowd-free, even in the high season.

Furthermore, the high altitude position at the end of the valley makes for breath-taking scenery, a snow-sure reputation and the long ski season.

It’s a Great Place to Learn Let’s face it, no one wants to learn to ski chalet in obergurgl or snowboard in a crowd of people.

The lack of lift lines and over-crowded slopes makes Obergurgl an amazing place to learn. The family-friendly atmosphere is another win here; if you’re bringing your children they will have a comfortable space to make their debut on the slopes.

The Obergurgl Ski School is also a very highly regarded school and only attracts the best and most qualified ski instructors, including many who speak English. The ski school operates from a convenient 10–3:30 with a small lunch break. Lift passes are free for children aged nine years and below and the option for supervised ski-school lunch is also available.

The Long Ski Season The ski area generally stays open until 1 May, to take advantage of the great spring skiing. Since Obergurgl is 1950m, the reputation is that there is always a great snow cover (even when nearby resorts may be struggling). If you take the Top Express Gondola over to Hochgurgl the altitude is even higher at 3080m, which is a great option in the spring skiing months to really take advantage of the best snow.

Accommodations are Great Obergurgl has a very high standard for hotels, however, the Chalet at 11° East is the only one of its kind. At the Chalet your stay is all-inclusive, meaning you will have meals, apres ski drinks and service included in your stay. Ski-in/ski-out access is rare among chalets in Obergurgl but this is certainly something you can count on at the Chalet at 11° East.

The Price is Reasonable Since Obergurgl is still flying under-the-radar in terms of popularity, the prices are still reasonable. You won’t have to take out a second mortgage to have a few beers at the famous Top Mountain Crosspoint and a typical meal in the village only costs about 9€.

In terms of accommodation, the standard is very high and what you would typically pay for a few nights’ hotel is sure to be a better experience than at neighbouring resorts that are busier with tourists.
