1st Annual Friends 4 Animals Charity Bike Show By: Mark Terry Mother Nature surprised us on October 1st with the coolest temperatures of the season but that did not keep the bikes away from the 1st Annual Friends 4 Animals Charity Bike Show in Morganton, NC. Chelcey Hinesley was the brainchild behind this event to raise awareness and money for the Humane Society Of Burke County. She did a wonderful job of selecting a spectacular venue of Judge’s Riverside on the Catawba River with excellent food and entertainment. There were 35 bikes registered in the show covering every size and type. The first one to jump out at me was a beautiful 2010 Harley FLHX Street Glide belonging to Ryan Puett of Lenoir. It was all black with a ton of chrome, stretched bags and a 26” front wheel and tire. There were several other Harleys with lots of chrome and nice paintwork. I also enjoyed looking at the crotch rockets and a rare Yamaha V-Max in like new condition. No bike show would be complete without some really custom choppers and they had them with really amazing paint schemes all the way back to an old school 70’s hard tail chopper. To me the crowning touch was an alloriginal Honda 750 four in excellent condition. As the bikes rolled in and the judges judged, everyone was enjoying the music coming from the stage down at the river. The Kenny Rhyne Band from Atlanta was playing along with local bands Cascade Street and Red Eyed Gravy. Chelcey loves motorcycles and animals; so it was the perfect fit to bring the two together. She points out that in Burke County alone, between 40 and 50 animals are put down daily. That works out to only 1 in 5 pets being adopted to a loving home. She reminds us of how important it is that we spay and neuter all our pets to control population. With a smile and gleam of hope she said that they would love to be put out of business by caring and responsible pet owners doing the right thing to assure unwanted dogs and cats are not brought into the world.
