Welcome to the Carnegie’s Autumn/Winter Brochure for a season filled with joy and celebration. As we enter this festive period, I am thrilled to share the incredible line-up of shows and events we have in store for you. With a variety of Christmas and seasonal performances, including the dazzling Rat Pack in Vegas, Tunes and Chat with Francis Rossi, and An Audience with Hutchy and Whitham, The Carnegie is the place to be.
We are proud to showcase the incredible talent within our local community as they bring their popular productions to our stage. Get ready to support and enjoy outstanding performances like The Phantom of the Opera and Elf the Musical.
Exciting new events like Bingo That’s Bonkers promises to be a fun evening of entertainment for all, while there’s also unforgettable family fun during the half-term break. Keep an eye out for the exceptional productions by our talented youth theatre too.

Carl Hutchinson –Watch Till The End (Comedy)

Carl Hutchinson is back with a brand new show for 2023. After a mammoth 87-date run in 2022, Carl got right back to work to produce his best show yet. If you’ve seen the Geordie in action before, you know exactly what type of amazing night you’re in for. If you haven’t seen Carl, prepare to be dazzled by the UK comedy scene’s best kept secret.

Celebrating over 24 years touring in the UK, The Ladyboys of Bangkok is now officially the largest and longest continuous touring cabaret show in the UK!
Featuring a cast of 16 Thai nationals (who just happen to be men!) this incredible fast-moving, large-scale production is not rude or crude, it’s cheeky, funny, and filled with more starspangled sassiness than you can shake a diamante-dripping silk glove at!

Frozen Jr – WADAMS (Community)
14th-16th September | 7.00pm
The enchanting modern classic from Disney is based on the 2018 Broadway and West End musical and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, plus five new songs written for the Broadway and West End productions. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humour, Frozen Jr. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!

Basil Newby presents the legendary Betty Legs Diamond and the Funny Girls follies in their fabulous Halloween tour! Join Betty and her crypt kicker dancers in her drop-dead gorgeous show. You’ll howl with laughter and scream with pleasure at this spooky spectacular!

A must-see for any fan of ROCK! Experience the iconic music of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s brought back to life by an exceptional live band consisting of some of the finest musicians and performers from around the world, original visual footage of the featured bands and artists, and incredible concert staging and lighting.

A comedy of love, life and loss. It’s just a bench in the park, the one by the war memorial. A thief, a fake clairvoyant, a homeless man, two burglars, a street sweeper, two war veterans, an artist, a widow, a drug dealer, a real clairvoyant, a loan shark, an angel and a ghost. They’ve all sat here at least once this year. Before the end of the year one of them will be murdered here...

The monthly Carnegie Comedy Club is here and blimey, have we got some fun for you! This month’s comedy crackers are Chris Brooker, Jonathon Mayor, Catherine Young and headlined by none other than Tony Cowards!

As Take That celebrates over 30 years as the UK’s number one boy band, The Take That Experience marks over a decade together as the band’s most popular and recognised tribute act. With acclaimed vocal performances, stunning replica costumes and iconic dance routines, The Take That Experience recreates the magic of the group live on stage with their Greatest Hits tour.

Experience The Carnegie’s diverse program of top-notch theatre, music, and cultural performances. But that’s not all. We proudly host the ever-popular Music Centre, nurturing the musical talents of young and adult learners through instrumental training, singing, and steel drums.
The Carnegie is the home to regular performances from three talented amateur groups. We also run classes for young theatre enthusiasts, providing behind-the-scenes insights and cultural experiences to inspire our future audiences.
Join our participatory classes and groups, including the harmonious Carnegie Singers, the lively Coastliners Line Dancing, and the empowering E.S.K.K Martial Arts Karate sessions.

From Gold to Rio will take you on a nostalgic journey back to the New Romantic era that ruled the charts for over a decade. With over 20 Top 10 hits, the show will feature non-stop classics including Gold, Rio, True, The Reflex, Through the Barricades, Save A Prayer, Lifeline and Girls on Film. Guaranteed to leave the audience shouting for more!

From the society that brought you Shrek and School of Rock, Workington Amateur Operatic Society presents Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical, The Phantom of the Opera. Featuring the phenomenal music of Lloyd Webber, the famous songs Music of the Night and All I Ask of You, and the iconic chandelier, this show will certainly be a spectacle that is not to be missed.

Talon performs The Eagles’ iconic Hotel California album from beginning to end plus all the greatest hits including Take It Easy, One Of These Nights, Take It To The Limit, Desperado, Lyin’ Eyes and many more in this spectacular production. This world class seven-piece band have, over the last quarter of a century, completely transcended the tag of ‘tribute’ and become not only revered by their peers but dearly loved by their fans.

Ignacio Lopez –
Nine IG Fails (Comedy)
19th October | 8.00pm
Spain’s best export, Ignacio Lopez (star of Live At The Apollo, The Now Show, Stand-Up Sesh, and more), scrutinises his immigrant upbringing and family tree in a relentlessly funny show about clashing cultures and never fitting in. Expect observational stand-up, wicked humour and sharp lines from the exotic outsider comedian.

Since 2005, the Comedy Club 4 Kids has been getting the best stand-ups, sketch acts and cabaret stars from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children (aged 6+) and their families… but without the rude bits! The show is family friendly and just like a normal comedy club, but it’s on in the day, kids are allowed in, and thus there is a higher than usual chance of the entire audience claiming to be called Bob.

RED RAW (Variety)
28th October | 8.00pm
Robert Temple is back on tour after a phenomenal 23-day run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019 with this all-new show featuring brand new sketches that’ll have you howling for days. Things will be imagined, people’s identities forgotten, and their reality completely altered. All in in the spirit of a ruddy good laugh. It’s the perfect night out whether you watch from the audience or you choose to participate as a star of the show.

Experience the powerful star vocals of four phenomenal singers coming together for a magical evening of West End and Broadway musical classics. This colourful production is packed with vibrant and energetic songs from the nation’s most loved musicals including Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar, SIX, Wicked, Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You, Jersey Boys, Les Misérables, Moulin Rouge and more.

Join Ballet Theatre UK as they follow the yellow brick road and discover all the wonders of Oz. Enjoy Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion, (and Toto, too) as they seek the Wonderful Wizard to find that there’s no place like home!

Diane’s Deli – A Tale from Paradise Heights (Drama)
3rd November | 7.30pm
Sean Ginty is a café owner in Paradise Heights, a quiet and unassuming man who wears a watch that stopped over 25 years ago.
DS Mackey, from the local police, is a burnt out and bitter man with an eye for opportunity and the other eye on Sean. He is more than curious about his past. When a woman turns up late in the café one night, a chain of events is set in motion that will have devastating effects on all their lives.

Bingo That’s Bonkers (Variety)

It’s here, Bingo That’s Bonkers is coming to Workington! Don’t miss out! Expect to be picked at random to join in with the wide range of party games and win some really crazy prizes. All with a soundtrack of cheesy pop, sing-a-long anthems and more. The most bonkers bingo session you will ever play!

Forbidden Nights (Adult)

Abandon your inhibitions at the door as the talented cast of acrobats, live male vocalists, fire acts, aerial artists and world-renowned circus performers flip and spin across the stage in this high-octane show. This fun, sexy and entertaining evening is guaranteed to be a night to remember.

Remember, remember it’s the 16th of November (doesn’t quite have the same impact of the 5th, but you get what we’re trying to do here).
The only thing blowing up around here is more fantastic stand-up at our regular comedy club! November’s fun fire-crackers are Dave Twentyman, Peter Brush and Sully O’Sullivan, topped off by the most brilliant Silky.

The Stones (Tribute)
18th November | 7.30pm
With all the energy and charisma of The Rolling Stones themselves, The Stones pay an accurate and faithful tribute to the sound and look of an authentic Rolling Stones show. Far from simply being lookalikes, though, the group pay great attention to the sound and feel of the music, all performing with the same passion and energy of the originals.

The Glenn Miller and Big Band Spectacular (Concert)

The music that filled the dance halls during the big band era is brought to life again by The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra UK. The hardest swinging big band in the UK recreates the songs of the 40’s and 50’s. A big band show that’s bound to get you in the mood.

Dreams of Fleetwood Mac (Rock)

One of the UK’s top Fleetwood Mac Tribute Shows. A group of experienced and accomplished musicians who have come together to recreate the sound, look and feel of the legendary band itself. All seven professional members play live and unadulterated, dedicated to delivering a show as close to the real thing as possible!

Status Quo legend Francis Rossi is taking up his acoustic guitar to bring you a selection of well-known hits and some previously notperformed-live-before tunes. It’ll be a unique evening in which Francis will reprise fan favourites from a remarkable 50+ year career. Expect original-style and acoustic versions of Quo classics, threaded together with chat during this music-based evening.

Elf the Musical – MAODS

Based on the beloved Christmas film, Elf the Musical follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity. Featuring exceptional scenic design, mind bending flying effects, fantastic choreography and an incredible cast of both junior and senior local performers, this musical is sure to help everyone embrace their inner elf. After all, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

Swing into the Christmas season with The Rat Pack and their famous Christmas Concert. Together they amaze audiences with their recreation of a magical Christmas at The Sands with Sinatra, Martin and Davis in this sensational show that brings the style, glamour and excitement of the Las Vegas heyday to vivid life.

WADAMS (Pantomime)

Join WADAMS as they bring you yet another spectacular family panto packed with traditional pantomime ingredients. With mischievous comedy, fabulous music and plenty of boos and hisses, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be bursting with festive fun for all the family.

We have lots of opportunities for the young people of West Cumbria, from ages 3 to 25.
The youngest start with the Carnegie Playmakers (3-7 years), which introduces to the children to storytelling through performance. Thursday nights are for the Carnegie Youth Theatre (8-14 years) where members begin staging their own theatre. The oldest group (15-25 years) can get involved with Carnegie Young Performers on Friday nights, where we’re working to a performance outside of The Carnegie (we have our sights set on Edinburgh Fringe 2024!).
We also have a range of other workshops and sessions for children who prefer alternative to acting. Look out for our Story Club, Dungeons and Dragons Club, and one-off events like Haunted Hollow and Santa’s Grotto.
The Carnegie Music Centre is a safe, welcoming and encouraging environment that inspires children, young people and adults to develop a love of creating music through a range of instruments and experiences.
With lots of options to choose fromincluding guitar, piano, ukelele, steel drums and musical theatre -
participants can try out all sorts of instruments that they may not otherwise experience. And everyone will be able to take part in performances and cultural experiences in front of small audiences. All experiences are welcome to take part in our popular Music Centre.
