Ramos House Café Gets New (but Familiar) Owners THE LATEST: Over the years, Michelle Winrich and John Q. Humphreys talked about the possibility of Michelle and her husband one day purchasing and taking over the Ramos House Café.

For 10 years, Michelle worked as a server and manager, while Humphreys owned the landmark Los Rios Street restaurant popular with the brunch crowd. Now, Michelle and her husband, Kris Winrich, are the new owners of Ramos House Café—a day Michelle never thought would arrive.

The Ramos House’s temporary closure earlier this year during the COVID-19 pandemic gave the Winrichs and Humphreys a chance to sit down and seriously talk about transferring ownership.

“I want to continue the legacy of what the Ramos House Café means,” Michelle said. “This was an easy process, because I know the ins and outs of Ramos House.

With all the relationships I’ve built there, it’s like home.”

Kris, also a musician who performs around the corner at Trevor’s at the Tracks and Rancho Capistrano Winery, is no stranger to Humphreys and the café, either. Kris and Humphreys have spent days jamming and talking about music and food.

“Michelle and I have been working side by side at the café for about a decade now,” Humphreys said. “During the past decade, I’ve watched them come to love each other and the café as much as I do, so when the time came for me to pass the proverbial spatula, they were the logical candidates.”

Humphreys further called the couple the “perfect people” to watch over Ramos House after he’s gone. He owned the café for 27 years.

Michelle and Kris Winrich grew up in San Clemente and now live in Rancho Mission Viejo. Ramos House is currently open and has all-outdoor seating.

As for future ideas, Michelle said they plan to open for special-occasion dinners, such as on Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve, along with creative pop-up wine dinners. The new owners also would like to bring back some old menu classics, including the pulled pork sandwich, hush puppies with pepper jam, and fried green tomatoes.

Mission Hospital Director on Pandemic: ‘We’re Still on Uphill Slope of the Curve’ THE LATEST: As COVID-19 cases continue surging in Orange County and throughout the country, one medical professional at Mission Hospital said this is an expected outcome and that another peak can be expected by Christmas.

James Keany, the Associate Director of the Emergency Department at Mission Hospital, recently spoke with The Capistrano Dispatch to give his medical perspective on the ongoing health crisis. Keany

urged people to continue wearing a mask and washing their hands, saying they may not realize the importance of following such guidelines because they haven’t previously gone through a pandemic.

“They don’t understand the importance of limiting contact,” Keany said. “The unfortunate reality is people should restrict unnecessary movements.”

Despite the current rise in cases and subsequent advisories against traveling and gathering for Thanksgiving, conditions are not as bad as they were in the spring, when the pandemic first spread, Keany said.

Well over half of the general population is adhering to the public safety guidelines of wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and avoiding unnecessary gatherings, Keany said.

“We’re still on the uphill slope of the curve,” Keany said. “It only takes that 15

to 20 percent to screw us all.”

Orange County moved back to the state’s highest-risk level and most restrictive tier of the state’s coronavirus monitoring system on Nov. 16. A “Limited Stay-at-Home Order” for all counties currently in the purple “widespread” risk tier—prohibiting overnight non-essential work, movement and gatherings—was issued on Nov. 19.

San Juan Capistrano City Hall closed to the public on Nov. 6 after several city employees tested positive for COVID-19, though city services have continued.

Schools in Capistrano Unified School District will remain open.

South Orange County has had relatively fewer cases and less dire circumstances in comparison to other areas and the nation at large due to the region’s socioeconomic advantages, which include comparatively lower population density, more people having jobs that allow them to work from home, and access to health care and coronavirus testing, Keany said.

“South Orange County is not seeing as big a peak as in other areas, especially North Orange County, Los Angeles County, and San Diego,” Keany said.

Keany said there has been talk of pandemic fatigue, in which people are tired of being cautioned against going out, adhering to safety protocols and not being able to go about their business as usual.

“People want to live their lives,” Keany said. “It’s a normal desire.”

For the public health sector, though, Keany said these guidelines in the face of a safety issue are nothing new, bringing up the necessity of seat belt laws. Safety measures are intended to be for the good of everyone, Keany said.

The pandemic will not end until there is a vaccine and herd immunity, Keany said.

Health professionals and others have become better at treating COVID-19 and learning how to manage it, Keany said.

Keany also noted that some teenagers are dying from the pandemic.

“No one’s immune,” Keany said. “Some had no risk factors.”

Data is also available that shows COVID-19 is increasing strokes, blood clots in the lungs, and heart attacks in otherwise healthy people, Keany said.—CB, Zach Cavanagh and Shawn Raymundo

The tax credit—created in 2006— has reportedly become challenging to utilize due to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and it also has a looming phase-out period. The Solar Jobs Preservation Act makes the ITC temporarily refundable for projects that break ground by the end of 2021, and extends the phasedown of the tax credit schedule by one year, Levin’s office said.

During a phone interview from Washington, D.C., Levin said he’s heard from solar developers who have been unable to use the tax credit because the market has dried up.

“We will do all we can to get it passed in Congress,” Levin said. “In Southern California, it will have a very positive impact.”

Levin has often emphasized and advocated for addressing energy/climate change-related causes and the pandemic’s economic impact while in office.

The legislation ensures solar companies continue to be incentivized, while helping to reduce carbon emissions and creating jobs, Levin said.

The bill has been endorsed by the Solar Energy Industries Association and various environmental groups. It is cosponsored by Representatives Paul Tonko (D-NY) and Paul Cook (R-CA).

“With nearly half a million clean energy workers still out of work from the COVID economic crisis, Congress should provide immediate relief in the form of refundability for the clean energy tax credits,” said Matthew Davis, Legislative Director for the League of Conservation Voters, in a statement from Levin’s office.

“We applaud Rep. Levin for his leadership to make refundable and extend the solar tax credits for a year.”

Levin recently won a reelection bid to keep his seat in the 49th Congressional District, fending off Republican challenger Brian Maryott.—CB

School District Looks Back at Failed Bond Measures THE LATEST: In light of bond measures intended to fund school improvements that have been voted down in recent years, the Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) Board of Trustees heard a presentation on the circumstances surrounding the unsuccessful bids during a regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

lower than expected), communicating with voters from all parties on facility needs, and needing a favorable election environment to reach the required 55% vote threshold for passage.

In other district news, the board approved a regular interim financial report, during which it was said the district would have to make cuts to meet a required threshold for upcoming fiscal years. A second budget report is expected to come back before the board in March 2021.

Enrollment has declined by 2,700 students from last year, more than a previous projected loss of 601 students.

The district will have to “cautiously” handle staffing due to uncertainty surrounding student returns, said Philippa Townsend, Assistant Superintendent of Fiscal Services. Student enrollment is said to have declined in most districts across the nation.

The Nov. 18 meeting was the last regular one for Board President Jim Reardon and Trustee Patricia Holloway.

Reardon lost a reelection bid to challenger Pamela Braunstein in the recent general election, while Holloway did not run for reelection. Candidates Lisa Davis and Sue Hill have been in a close race for Holloway’s Area 3 seat. During the meeting, Reardon, Holloway, and other trustees celebrated and thanked one another for their service on the board.—CB

bond measure process—mentioned numerous factors surrounding the March primary election, including rising partisanship, the COVID-19 pandemic and stock market conditions creating uncertainty, as well as negative advertising.

“Just trying to put this election in context based on what else we saw with measures on the ballot in Orange County and around the state, this was a historically tough election for bond measures, in Orange County specifically but also throughout California,” Heath said while displaying an informational slide on failed bond measures in other Orange County school districts.

Measures H and I on the March ballot received 44.16% and 45.77% yes votes, respectively. Measure H’s margin of defeat was 2,400 votes, while Measure I’s was 4,200 votes. Measure M in 2016 received 45.47% yes votes. The measures needed to meet a 55% approval level to pass.

More Democrats generally voted in favor of the bonds than Republicans.

“What we see is a strong correlation between those precincts that have the highest percentage of Democrats, the lowest percentage of Republicans, the lowest percentages of homeowners, and the lowest percentages of older voters tended to be the stronger precincts for Measure H,” Heath said.

THE LATEST: When he considers the possibilities of students wrestling at Fairmont Schools, Mark Muñoz is excited.

Muñoz, who competed in UFC and has an extensive wrestling background, is now the wrestling coach and athletic academy wrestling director at the private school’s location in San Juan Capistrano. Muñoz will work as coach with the high school students and as the athletic director for junior high students.

He wants to build something special with the kids, with support from the school administration and South Orange County wrestling community.

“I see a lot of possibilities of us being a dynasty,” Muñoz said. “We’re actually on the road to get there.”

Fairmont announced Muñoz’s hiring earlier this year to coincide with the debut of their new wrestling program. He wants to bring in wrestlers and MMA fighters to demonstrate wrestling skills to help his competitors refine their skills. Wrestling practice at Fairmont is currently on hold since Orange County is in the most restricted tier of the state’s coronavirus monitoring system as cases surge.

Though students won’t be able to work out on the mats for now, Muñoz is considering other fitness options, such as socially distanced outdoor conditioning.

“Now, it’s just building them technically and building them strength-wise, and flexibility as well,” Muñoz said. “Along with that is their perspective, their attitude, their mental toughness, their coachability, their kindness to each other, their respect to each other—you know, all the other things that are important to have, other than being a great wrestler.”

He loves Fairmont and everything the school stands for, including their welcoming of wrestling.

“I love the resources they have here and the things they want to do,” Muñoz said. “They’ve highly expressed they want to have a dynasty, and I have full intentions of building that. With the knowledge and relationships I have with people here, I can definitely do that.”

The Fairmont wrestling program is still accepting applications. Muñoz said he’s also looking to grow his personal Reign Wrestling Club, for students in grades K-12.

The club has been around since 2008 and wrestles during the season and offseason.

“I don’t want to build just great wrestlers,” Muñoz said. “I want to build champions on and off the mat—teaching them about character, integrity, and leadership, and using wrestling as a vehicle for that.”

Putuidem Village, Skate Park Projects Move Forward

Long-awaited community amenities for the San Juan Capistrano community will take significant steps forward next year.

Construction on the Putuidem Cultural Village, intended to honor the area’s indigenous Acjachemen people, is “well underway,” according to a statement from the city.

Construction is expected to finish by spring 2021. The city council approved awarding a construction contract in August to C.S.

Legacy Construction for the project—the company that also handled this year’s Verdugo Street renovations and an expansion of the parking lot near the Los Rios area.

As for San Juan’s skateboard park, which local skaters and others have advocated for, the city received several design proposals from design firms that are currently being reviewed by staff.

Putuidem Village will include a presentation area at the city’s Northwest Open Space with seating, a discovery trail, shade trees and various depictions of Acjachemen culture.

“Additionally, directional markers, as well as interpretive signage, will be placed around the park,” the city said, after an inquiry from The Capistrano Dispatch. “The amphitheater area will include boulders, log seats, and a stage with a decomposed granite surface. The surrounding areas of the park will have native plant habitat.”

A new wood rail fence will be installed along the village’s boundary, and other existing fencing will remain.

the cultural village area to accommodate two ADA-compliant portable restrooms, the city further said.

With the skate park project, the city intends to award a design contract at a public meeting in early 2021.

“The design phase will take approximately six months to complete,” the city said. “Once final plans and specifications are prepared, the city will seek construction bids in mid-2021, with the goal of being under construction later next year.”

The city recently sought and received proposals from design firms to refine the conceptual design and identify a specific location. The park will generally be on a portion of city-owned land by the San Juan Capistrano Sports Park and Community Center.

Both projects were temporarily put on hold earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty surrounding subsequent economic impacts, but they later were authorized to resume as the city’s fiscal conditions became clearer. CD

Recycling Advocate Ryan Hickman, 11, Finalist for ‘TIME’s’ Kid of the Year Award Sustainability supporter Ryan Hickman is one of 20 finalists for a new award that recognizes kids bettering their community.

Hickman, an 11-year-old resident of San Juan Capistrano, is in the running for the TIME magazine’s Kid of the Year recognition. The recognition is in conjunction with TIME, TIME for Kids, and Nickelodeon. Hickman is an advocate for recycling and environmentalism through Ryan’s Recycling Company and the nonprofit Project3R. Ryan started recycling when he was just 3 years old, because he thought it was fun. Ryan said he and his dad recycled plastic bottles from their house and then asked neighbors to also recycle.

“I’m really excited to be nominated as a finalist for TIME and Nickelodeon’s Kid of the Year!” Ryan said. “I think it’s pretty cool to be included with a bunch of amazing kids, and I hope kids everywhere get inspired to follow their dreams, too.”

The top five honorees will be saluted on Dec. 4 during the Kid of the Year TV special on Nickelodeon and related channels, a press release stated. The ultimate winner will be featured on a cover of TIME, with a companion story in TIME for Kids.

Ryan said he and his dad go around after school and on the weekends to pick up cans and bottles, and he also aims to do a cleanup once a week at Doheny State Beach.

“My story has gone around the world, and millions of people have watched my videos on social media. I’ve recycled nearly 1.2 million cans and bottles since I’ve started,” Ryan said. “I also help support my friends at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach by donating money from all my Ryan’s Recycling T-shirts I sell online through my web site.”

Ryan reportedly has raised more than $12,000 so far.

“It’s really easy to make a difference,” Ryan said. “I always tell people to try your best to recycle what you use every day, and if you see a piece of trash on the ground, please pick it up and throw it away. I’m only 11 years old. If I can make a difference, you can, too.”

dents and alumni to address cultural and racial inequity, Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) is considering modifications to their policy on bullying.

A first reading of the revised policy was read to the CUSD Board of Trustees during a meeting on Nov. 18. A second reading for a formal vote of approval is expected to come back before the board at a Dec. 16 meeting.

District staff reviewed CUSD’s policy after members of CUSD Against Racism highlighted topics of concern regarding marginalized groups, particularly when it comes to harassment experienced by students over their ethnicity and appearance, as well as other reasons.

“The language changes more in the sense that it clears up or clearly defines bullying and what groups may be potentially targeted,” said Susan Holliday, Chief Administrative Officer of Education and Support Services.

Bullying can include actions based on actual or perceived race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, religious beliefs, customs, gender, weight, health or sexuality, according to the proposed revisions.

tal health advocate Jim Taylor will serve on the Orange County Mental Health Board, a role he considers an honor.

Taylor was appointed by the Orange County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 3 and officially sworn in on Nov. 20.

“While I am not in the medical field, nor a practitioner, I have been an advocate and activist for suicide prevention in Orange County for many years,” Taylor said. “I served as Chairman for the OC Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for five years, and spent quite a bit of time performing outreach to those at risk of suicide, and to those affected by a suicide loss.”

Taylor greatly looks forward to his time on the board and feels his board position is to be a voice for the residents of Orange County in all things mental health-related.

Taylor is also known in the community for his work with the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association, which puts on the annual Swallows Day Parade. Though this year’s parade was indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Taylor and other Fiesta members handed out free food during the event’s scheduled day and on later dates.

Taylor has been previously named to the city’s Wall of Recognition for his local contributions.

Orange County Author’s Book Now in Second Printing

When Margo Sorenson published Calvin Gets the Last Word in October, she never imagined it would be mentioned in the New York Times.

Sorenson’s tale of a boy always looking for the right word was recently mentioned in an overview that the Times published of picture books. Her publisher notified her of the recognition, which left her stunned before she told her husband, daughters, and grandchildren.

Her playful celebration of language, intended for children ages 4-9, is now in its second printing.

“It’s doing great,” said Sorenson, who lives in Rancho Mission Viejo.

“To have a book go into a second run so soon after it published—my publishers are jumping up and down.”

Calvin Gets the Last Word had an initial print run of 4,000 copies, with the second run going for 2,000 copies. The picture book is narrated by a dictionary that belongs to Calvin, who is always looking for the right word for his mischievous brother.

Sorenson has done a number of interviews with blog authors about the book, which she said has received some “wonderful reviews” from teachers and librarians.

“It’s struck a chord,” Sorenson said.

The illustrator expertly captured what she had in mind with Calvin and his dictionary, Sorenson said. She thought the visual aspect and collaboration were fun.

People have told her kids want to learn more about words after reading her book.

Sorenson got the idea for the book as a former English teacher and previously published author, and she originally considered calling it Henry Loves Words before the story evolved into its current form. The novelty of a talking dictionary helped when shopping the book around to agents, she said.

Sorenson hopes Calvin Gets the Last Word can show kids they can have fun with words.

“And what better fun than to ace your older brother?” Sorenson said.

Along with the book’s success, Sorenson is staying busy by talking to students and groups throughout the country over Zoom.

“It’s really fun for me,” Sorenson said. “It keeps me young.” CD

How to Bring a Little Joy and Laughter to Our Seniors During a Challenging Holiday Season

he holiday season is a time filled with joy, laughter and the magic of the season. But this year, celebrating the holidays will be challenging for everyone, as we strive to keep COVID-19 at bay, while safely gathering with family and friends. This is especially true when it comes to our senior population and the most vulnerable. While COVID may change how we celebrate the holidays this year, it should not stop us from connecting with loved ones. That is why my colleagues and I on the Board of Supervisors are calling on residents to safely connect with their elderly neighbors this holiday season.

“Happy Holidays Neighbor!” is a public awareness micro-campaign targeted at raising awareness of the dangers related to senior isolation and suggesting ways everyday citizens can reach out and make a difference. No one should be alone during the holidays. The Happy Holidays Neighbor! micro-campaign connects seniors with local neighbors who can provide help and support.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website,

there are many public-health risks linked to social isolation and loneliness. With one-fourth of adults aged 65 and older considered to be socially isolated, this makes seniors more susceptible to increased risk of serious medical conditions, such as dementia and heart disease.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic threatens to further cut off seniors from regular social engagement, as well as limit their ability to access needed food, supplies and medication. During the holiday period, seniors face further challenges related to gift buying, mailing packages and decorating their home exteriors.

While the physical health of our seniors is critical, we cannot overlook the importance of mental health. The holidays are a time to come together to show how much we care for the health and well-being of our seniors.

At the Movies: ‘Recon’

n the year of 2020, more than 70 years since World War II ended, what else can there be left to say about that global war in fiction and on screen? Robert David Port’s new war piece Recon came to audiences this Veterans Day in selected theaters, but does it add anything to the subgenre that we haven’t already seen before?

Stationed in Italy in the middle of the war, four young American soldiers spend a day pondering the fact that one of their men killed an innocent local and then ponder whether they’re making the right choice following an Italian man off a mountain that led them to trouble. The soldiers are played by Alexander Ludwig, Sam Keeley, Chris Brochu and RJ Fetherstonhaugh, and Franco Nero is the local who may or may not be on their side.

Recon is based on the 2010 novel Peace by real-life Air Force veteran Richard Bausch and loosely based on a true story, as one of the title cards informs. Port’s film adaptation has some pretty impressive production value for a movie with, I assume, a relatively small budget, as well as the lack of star headliners and bigname producers.

The cast is decent, though the dialogue and delivery of the lines often feel too much like modern soldiers communicating, rather than fully giving off the impression the movie is set a half-century ago. Recon doesn’t really bring anything new or innovative to the many WWII features it is following, but for those who have a penchant for this type of movie, it will probably be entertaining and worth a look. In Life, Opportunity Often Arises from Adversity

M

illions of people worldwide have experienced unthinkable and unavoidable adversity in the year 2020. Of course, COVID-19 is the biggest factor, but natural disasters such as wildfires, smoke, hurricanes and flooding have added to the adversity.

People have lost their loved ones, jobs, homes and social interaction with friends—the list goes on and on. For the most part, adversity has hit seniors the hardest. The death toll from COVID-19 is highest among the senior population.

There is a flicker of hope on the horizon. The vaccines developed so far have been touted to be at least 90% effective.

Once this adversity is behind us, opportunities will start to arise for individuals.

Jobs will become available. Believe me, I’m not trying to paint a rosy or idealistic picture about what has happened to us all in 2020—it’s been a terrible year.

In 1994, I learned a valuable lesson about adversity and how opportunity can arise from it. On Christmas Eve in 1993, my life changed dramatically when my wife of six years—without informing me of her intentions—cleaned out the house and moved out of my life. She filed for divorce four months later.

I was so surprised and shocked that I started keeping a journal to try to gather

my thoughts and figure out what had happened. I started to date, thinking mid-life dating would be easy.

It wasn’t. I described the dating frustrations and failures in my journal.

After five months, my journal had grown to more than 100 pages. I converted it to a short story. I naively queried Playboy, Esquire and the New York Times, thinking those media giants might be interested in a story about a divorced man’s dating woes. They weren’t.

Eventually, two women editors of a local Dana Point newspaper agreed to review my material.

ON LIFE AND On July 7, 1994, just six LOVE AFTER 50 months after the moveBy Tom Blake out, my first column was published. I realized that my writing opportunity had grown out of the adversity I had experienced.

In June 1998, I met Greta, who had experienced adversity as well. She was a single mom, who had raised four kids. She created her own opportunity by becoming a special education teacher and being such a positive force in her students’ lives.

Again, I’m not saying that life after COVID-19 will provide opportunities for everyone. But it will for many. Some readers have already shared their newfound opportunities with me.

Take, for example, Patrick Hynes, a native of Australia who lives in Orange County. During the pandemic, he started publishing a postcard-type of blog, titled Patrick’s Brief Encounters … Snippets of My Life in America. I’ve read them, and they are excellent.

Another example is Wendy Green, also a single mom who raised two children.

Wendy has bounced back from adversity more than once in her life. She reached out to me by finding my articles on the

Frustration in Waiting Local sports scene grinds teeth as guidelines delayed, scheduled dates approach

O

ne year ago this week, sports in South Orange County were more than successfully in full swing.

San Juan Hills football won its first ever CIF-SS semifinal with a dramatic two-point conversion in overtime, and the Stallions were days away from their first-ever CIFSS championship.

JSerra boys water polo topped San Juan Hills in a goal-filled showdown for its first CIF-SS championship the previous week, and the Lions followed that with a run in the state regional playoffs.

JSerra’s Anthony Grover, now at Wake Forest, and St. Margaret’s Jackson Adelman raced to double championships with CIF-SS and state titles in back-to-back

weeks. It was Grover’s second CIF-SS title and third straight state championship. St. Margaret’s girls cross country won its second consecutive CIF-SS title.

San Clemente’s Hana Catsimanes, now at Wake Forest, put a crown on a golden cross country season with a CIF-SS championship that followed wins at the Orange County Championships, Mt. SAC Invitational, Sea View League Finals and CIF-SS preliminaries.

San Clemente boys water polo just wrapped up a run to the CIF-SS championship game and a state regional appearance.

The Tritons’ girls basketball team began its road to the CIF-SS championship game by starting the season with a tournament victory at the Norco Veteran’s Week tournament.

Dana Hills boys cross country took runner-up silver at the CIF-SS championships for the second straight season and the fifth time in the previous six years.

Fall sports were handing out championships. Winter sports were open and running.

Flash forward back to the present as November reaches Thanksgiving and December on the horizon, and high school sports are in the same place they were in August, when districts began equipmentless and socially distanced conditioning camps; in July, when CIF announced its delayed and shuffled schedule; and in

March, when everything came to a standstill due to the coronavirus shutdowns.

Games are not being played, and despite the scheduled restarts creeping up in mid-December, rising coronavirus cases and reinstituted stay-at-home orders have many wondering and doubtful that sports will go off as scheduled.

“It’s been so frustrating in one respect,” CIF-SS commissioner Rob Wigod told the Orange County Register on Nov. 9, “in that we haven’t been able to put our fingers on when certain things can come back, what red tier means as to what you can and cannot do.”

Frustration is the word of the moment for almost anyone involved in youth and high school sports. Those who talk with coaches or scroll through those sectors of social media can find a daily round of statements, conversations and petitions all echoing the same frustrated sentiments.

Teams have been abiding by all the installed COVID-19 protocols with nary an outbreak or incident to be found locally, and players and coaches have been running the same limited drills for weeks upon weeks. Yet, despite CIF’s announced schedule, no one knows if they’re truly that much closer to participating in a full practice, let alone a competitive game.

school athletic departments, coaches and players are all stuck as they wait for an update to state guidance on youth sports, which was delayed last week when the state pulled an “emergency brake” on its coronavirus monitoring system.

Football is scheduled for a Dec. 14 practice date and a Jan. 8 season start. Boys volleyball is set to begin earlier, on Dec. 12, with girls volleyball following on Dec. 19. Boys water polo is scheduled for a Dec. 21 start, and girls water polo is set for Dec. 29. Cross country is set to run Dec. 26.

Whether those dates hold and sports start on time, or whether complete full seasons or championships get handed out, is still up in the air as the waiting game continues. CD
