In Quiet

Hearts

Some days pass like shadows, unnoticed. Time moves quickly, but the heart remembers. The world never stops turning, but love teaches us to pause. Not just to pause, but to exist, breathe, and remember what it means to love. It hides in the spaces we overlook. In quiet glances, in unspoken goodbyes, and in the way we remember someone long after they’re gone. Then, here comes February, and with it, a day that dares us to open our hearts. In a world often too busy to listen, Valentine’s Day arrives like a ``quiet whisper in our soul. A day not just for lovers, but for anyone who has ever known the ache, the joy, and the power of love.

Every year, Valentine’s Day paints the world with shades of red. Roses bloom, chocolates are wrapped in gold foil, and couples exchange sweet words. To some, it is just another day. To others, it is a celebration of love and appreciation. But behind the clichés and gifts, Valentine’s Day has a deeper meaning, something we often forget.

Love isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s a mother waking up early to cook breakfast for her children. Sometimes, it’s a friend checking in when they know you’ve had a hard day. It’s a grandfather saving old letters from his wife, a sister sharing her last piece of chocolate, or maybe a teacher staying up late to help a struggling student. These moments don’t need a fancy dinner or a bouquet of roses, they need presence, care, and heart.

Valentine’s Day reminds us to slow down and feel. In a world that moves so fast, it gives us one day to pause and recognize the people who matter. It asks us to say, “thank you,” “I’m here,” or simply “I love you”—words that, though small, carry so much weight. But this day is not for those in relationships. It’s for anyone who has ever loved and been loved. It’s for the ones healing from heartbreak but still choosing to be kind. It’s for those spending the day alone yet holding space in their hearts for hope. It’s for the brave souls who continue to love even when it’s hard.

Love doesn’t need to be perfect to be real. It can be messy, quiet, slow, or unexpected. But when it’s true, it leaves a mark.Sometimes, the deepest kind of love is when we give ourselves the courage to forgive, to heal, and to grow. On Valentine’s Day, while the world turns its gaze outward, some quietly turn inward, choosing to face their own hearts. And that too, is love. Learning to be patient with your scars, to smile after the storm, to believe that even after all the pain, you are still worthy of love, these are victories worth honoring. Because before we can give love freely, we must first believe that we deserve it.

So, if this day is spent hand in hand with someone else, or in the stillness of your own company, may this be a reminder that love is everywhere. In happiness, in loss, in waiting, and in letting go. The quiet power of Valentine’s Day lies not in grand gestures, but in the truth that love, no matter how soft, how silent, or how small, is always something worth holding on to.

In quiet hearts, love lives without needing to shout. It lingers in memories, in the spaces between words, and in the acts of kindness we often ignore. Valentine’s Day may come and go, but the kind of love that truly matters is the one that stays even in silence. The love that comforts, forgives, and holds on. That even without grand declarations, love continues to beat gently in the hearts that carry it. And maybe that’s the quiet power we often forget.

Silent Sanctuary

Excitement and smiles were plastered on every student’s lip the moment the clock’s hands aligned at 9:15 in the morning. Most of the students went to their friends, many students proceeded directly to our school canteen, and some students walked and talked in the hallway. However, unlike my schoolmates, I took a different path, to a unique place, a sanctuary that offers peace and silence for everyone who visits— our school’s YES-O and Science Park. To the place where the hustle and bustle of life fade away. To the majestic and golden-like spot in the school, there were wooden-like tables, bleachers, and chairs— a perfect place for friends to bond. With the greenery and rainbow-like flowers around, I couldn’t help but drop my jaw.

The moment I stepped foot into my favorite place, I was caught off guard and paused for a bit, wide-eyed, smiling, and with an amazed expression. Seconds later, I approached the garden, excited to try the new wooden-like tables, chairs, and bleachers, a garden set that added life to the space— a garden set given by the Youth for Environment in School Organization, or YES-O.

“Maganda siya at mas lalong gumanda yung area na yun kasi may garden set na siya, and mas lalong na-appreciate na ng mga students at napakinabangan rin nila, kaya sana ay ingatan at alagaan ng lahat iyon,” a beautiful message from the organization’s head, their president, Jannah B. Burucanay.

From being one of the frontliners of the Itawes National High School (INHS) in every event they hold, to being the waste warriors of the school, and to making great contributions to the beautification of our institution, this organization, with their garden set gift from the school, has made their name shine even brighter.

“Nagiging crowded kasi sa harap dahil walang sapat na area sa may likod, lalo na ang Grade 8 and Grade 9 kung saan sila pwedeng mag-stay para mag-aral outside the classroom. Parang napansin namin na tumatambay sila sa harap kasi may mga garden set kung saan pwede silang mag-aral as a group, kaya naisip namin na maglagay doon,” words from the organization’s mother, Mrs. Ruby Ann C. Sales.

These beautiful and useful gifts from YES-O have truly made my favorite place even more beautiful and brighter. A perfect place with my favorite book. Sitting alone, but it feels like my life has been complete. Amid the chaotic field and surroundings in school during break time, I found solace here, a beautiful sanctuary that gave peace to my soul, comfort to my heavy heart, and silence to my ears. A place that I truly consider my Sanctuary of Silence— my Silent Sanctuary.

Treasure Trash in

In this generation, waste has become an alarming issue around the globe. It has caused many problems, like clogged waterways, polluted surroundings, flooded areas, and it harmed people—even animals. That is why the students and teachers of Itawes National High School (INHS) proved that beauty could rise from what others consider useless.

On a bright and hopeful day, the Recycled Christmas Tree Making Contest lit up the hearts of many, not just with the colorful and creative trees but also with the message they carried—hope, ingenuity, and unity.

The school buzzed with excitement as each class unveiled their masterpieces. From afar, they looked like ordinary Christmas trees, but up close, they revealed a stunning truth. Each tree was crafted from discarded materials— empty bottles, torn magazines, old sacks, or different things that might have ended up in a dumpster, but they were transformed into symbols of the season.

This is not just a contest; it has a genuine meaning. It is a reminder that even if something is discarded and broken, there is potential—that something broken can be

fixed, and they can even become the most beautiful things.

As I watched my fellow students and teachers marvel at the creations, I couldn’t help but feel proud. Proud of our school, ourselves, and our dedication to making a difference.

Walking around, I could hear whispers of admiration and laughter. It felt as though the Christmas spirit had truly taken root in our school—not through lavish decorations but through something more meaningful.

As the day ended, the winning trees were announced, which are the Grade 10 and 11; followed by the 2nd placers, Grade 12; 3rd placers, Grade 8 and Grade 9; and the 4th Placer, which is Grade 7. But the truth is, everyone felt like a winner.

As I walked away from the event, I carried with me not just the joy of the day but the inspiration to look at the world differently. Because sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity to turn trash into treasure, a little hope to see the beauty in everything—and a hope in what seems hopeless. This reminded me that in every piece of trash, there’s a treasure waiting to be found.

Bagwis: Always Serving with Bliss

“Flying above the horizon with a strong companion.”

“Whoosh…whoosh…whoosh.” The moment I opened my eyes and woke up from a nap in the garden at our school, the sound of the beautiful, fluttering wings of birds filled my ears. A flock of birds soared high above the sky. My gaze then shifted downward, and I saw a group of individuals walking, as if they were flying like birds. Who are they?

Bearers of Altitude

Birds can never truly appreciate the beauty of the horizon unless they fly together. When they unite, they become stronger, resisting the raging winds and giving them the chance to admire the view.

The same goes for leadership. By building a strong team, a solid foundation is formed, allow- ing every student to soar, to fly, and to embrace the beauty of our institution. This unity provides a glimpse of the highest altitudes of success.

Bearers of Greatness

A bird that fights against the wind to protect its flock epitomizes true greatness, unwilling to back down, even if it must face the storm alone.

To lead with great individuals by your side, who stand with you no matter the challenge, is a true blessing. The twenty souls who have exemplified this leadership have fought for and protected the thousands they serve, showing what it means to be truly great.

Bearers of Wisdom

Birds are symbols of hope, light, and wisdom. They instill good deeds and impart knowledge to their generations. Just like these birds, the leaders in this school have shared their wisdom, offering knowledge with heart and guiding those who follow them.

Incredible Service

Birds help plants to grow, to thrive, and to flourish.

Similarly, the leaders I have witnessed in this school have nurtured growth through their incomparable service, helping others rise to their potential.

As this batch of “birds” prepares to take flight into the future, I’ve seen how truly deserving they are of the title “BAGWIS.” They are the Bearers of Altitude, Greatness, Wisdom, and Incredible Service, a remarkable group that has soared together, Fly- ing above the horizon with a strong companion forever. They are the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) Officers of Itawes National High School (INHS), batch Bagwis, always

Victory Steps to

In the lively halls of Itawes National High School (INHS), one group stands out for their energy and passion; a group that turns every performance into a masterpiece; a group that turns every competition into a celebration; and a group that dances not just with their feet, but with their hearts.

For three consecutive years, the Kahakyaw Dance Troupe (KDT) INHS has danced its way into the hearts of audiences and judges. Their journey to become three-time champions is not easy, it is a story of talent, and a story of a roller coaster of emotions.

In 2022, the troupe dazzled everyone as they took on the whimsical charm of dwarfs. Their colorful costumes, synchronized movements, and enchanting energy made the audience feel as though they were transported into a fairy tale. The judges were captivated, awarding them the top spot—a well-deserved recognition for the countless hours they spent perfecting every step.

The following year, the troupe proved that their success was no fluke. For 2023, they portrayed the playful character of Mickey Mouse and friends, they delivered a performance full of joy and nostalgia. With largerthan-life costumes and cho-

reography that blended humor on the stage, they once again earned the champion title. It was a performance that left everyone smiling, proof that the KDT could bring magic to any stage.

In the year 2024, The KDT bagged another milestone as the troupe donned reindeer costumes. Their emotional yet spirited performance was proof to their passion as dancers and as a family. The audience watched in awe as they moved with perfect harmony, their antlers glistening under the lights, that symbolizes a deep meaning of Christmas.

Beyond the trophies and applause, the Kahakyaw Dance Troupe’s success is rooted in their unbreakable bond. Behind every breathtaking performance are long

hours of practice, moments of doubt, and sacrifice they made together. Yet, through it all, they never lost sight of their goal—to bring joy and pride to their beloved school, INHS.

As the Kahakyaw Dance Troupe celebrates their three-peat victory, they remain humble and thankful. They dedicate their success to their school, and their families—proving that when you dance with heart, you create a legacy that is far beyond the stage. Their story is a reminder that no victory is achieved overnight—every step, every stumbling, and every conflict plays an important part in shaping our success.

As they continue to inspire future generations, the Kahakyaw Dance Troupe proves that the road to victory is paved with passion and dedication. The journey to victory is never easy, and it takes many steps to reach the top—and the Kahakyaw Dance Troupe has proven this time and again.

A handful of Communication

They say, to form a great bond with anyone, one should first understand the importance of communication.

Communication, however, is not as simple as it looks. It happens between many people and cannot be accomplished alone. Thus, everyone should know that attaining good communication is not a one-man journey but rather a team uniting as one to obtain it.

Communication plays a crucial role in any type of relationship. It binds everyone and everything through its power. It is even powerful enough to destroy connections; and strong enough to wreck friendships. While it has its bad sides, it is still an important ingredient to crafting a perfect company.

A dash of Friendliness

Although great communication is already a high-level ingredient, having a friendly personality can make the recipe even stronger. These two can be considered as partners when it comes to forming bonds. A great communicator without a friendly attitude sound like a boss; a friendly spirit without good communication sounds like a loner; but a good communicator and a friendly spirit together can make a great pair.

Being friendly is a choice. But once one grasps its value, one can understand its significance and can use it for everyone’s benefit. Just be careful though because not all friendships are true. Friendliness can make one whole but can easily destroy anyone with just a wrong move. With all this, a dash of friendliness is indeed a great ingredient for our recipe.

Last ingredient but not least, a cup of respect. This by far can be considered as the best and the hardest to earn ingredient for our recipe. It requires a deep understanding which makes it complicated. Good communication and friendliness are nothing compared to this ingredient.

Respect is not that simple. It’s more than just treating others nicely; more than just talking softly to others; and more than just doing acts of service to others. It’s more than that. Respect is knowing every detail about a person and accepting it wholly. It is caring about others and mixing with everyone without judgement. Respect is earned and not demanded.

You may be wondering by now why I’m writing this recipe. Well, why do I? I can’t tell why, but one thing is for sure, I was inspired by a certain group. A team that bears great communication with each other; a team that possesses friendly members; and a team that values the importance of respect. The three ingredients that I explained above.

What I’m talking about is the group that I belong to, the Radio Broadcasting Team of Itawes National High School. They possess such values that are not seen by the naked eye. Such values that even I cannot decipher. Such values that made them closer together, allowing them to win in their contested events. The Radio Broadcasting Team of INHS and my family – a team that holds the secret recipe of a perfect company.

Shear line, easterlies, Amihan bring rains in Cagayan, several other areas, says PAGASA

A shear line, easterlies, and the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) brought light to heavy rains over Cagayan and several other areas in the country said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

For multiple days in a row, cold weather has been experienced by locals of Cagayan, as well as the other communities in the country, mainly because of the wind phenomena occurring simultaneously.

PAGASA: TCWS is meant to warn the public

In the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) description, it denotes that the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) is a way to warn the public of the threats of general wind strength associated with a tropical cyclone.

According to PAGASA, owing to the presence of natural and artificial obstructions such as local topography or nearby buildings, winds in a particular area (local winds) may be much stronger from the general wind strength over the provincial or sub-provincial locality implied by the wind signal.

Moreover, the agency stated that the wind signal is usually raised in provinces, independent component cities, or high urbanized cities except for Metro Manila, who’s placed under a single wind signal level.

In addition, the current TCWS system uses five (5) levels of wind signals that are numbered from 1 to 5, from minor to extreme threat on a particular area.

Even though the TCWS is a top-down system, the intensification of wind signals allows the skipping of wind signal levels where Wind Signal #1 on a particular locality can be upgraded directly to Wind Signal #3 without passing Wind Signal #2.

Furthermore, PAGASA stated that the extent and timing of raising of wind signals are based on the intensity, extent of strong winds or higher, and the forecast direction and speed of movement of the tropical cyclone at the time of issuance of a bulletin.

Meanwhile, there were also instances where classes are being suspended due to PAGASA’s declaration of Wind Signals that are being experienced.

STUDY CONFIRMS ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION INCREASES CANCER RISKS

In a study of the World Health Organization (WHO), it showed the link between alcohol consumption and an elevated risk of developing various cancers.

On January 13, 2025, Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Aurora, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal experienced cloudy skies with rains due to the Amihan.

PAGASA advised the people to take proper precautions and prepare for possible flash floods or landslides that may occur due to the constant moderate to heavy rains.

In addition, the weather station also mentioned that coastal waters will be rough to very rough in Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas.

On the other hand, a shear line is formed by the convergence of warm air from the easterlies (wind from the east) and cool air from the northeast monsoon.

Moreover, clouds and rain formed in the shear lines that are directed to the country are called easterlies

Meanwhile, the Amihan season, which brings cooler temperature to the Philippines, is the period when cold winds from the north blow, usually from November to March.

Absolute Imitation

The sound of keyboards echo around the four corners of our classroom the moment our teacher instructed us to write an essay. With focused eyes and eyebrows almost meeting, my classmates seem so focus on the activity. But a question began to circulate in my mind when my classmates started to ramp in our aisles to pass their activity minutes after our teacher’s instruction. Did they really do it? Or are they just deceiving themselves and letting AI do their work?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming education by making learning and completing tasks more convenient. While it offers convenience, it also raises questions about its impact on creativity and effort of every student in school.

The history of AI began in the 1950s, which has evolved from simple algorithms to advanced systems capable of mimicking human thought. Nowadays, AI is widely used in education for tasks like writing, researching, and more.

To add, AI can quickly process large amounts of information, helping students access answers and explanations in seconds. Tools like ChatGPT assist students with writing essays and solving problems. Unlike before, when you had to search through tons of books and think a million times to finish your essays, with this invention, you can get your answers and essays in seconds with just one click.

However, just like in every aspect, there is always the bright and the dark side. Over-reliance on this can undermine critical thinking and problem-solving skills of every student. It can also spread misinformation if the data on AI is unverified.

Moreover, on the bright side, this invention offers time saving advantages, helping students complete tasks quickly, especially when there is a bunch of work waiting for them.

Furthermore, this can affect critical thinking and originality. Students may rely on AI to complete work, leading to questionable academic integrity. Additionally, its ability to generate convincing content raises concerns about plagiarism.

Thus, AI is a valuable educational tool, however, it should be used as a supplement, not a replacement for hard work. AI remains nothing more than an Absolute Imitation, a tool that can mimic human activity, but not replace the profound depth of human intellect.

The study, conducted by an international team of researchers, analyzed data from across the world and found that in 2019, there were 4.4% cancer diagnosed globally, and 401,000 cancer deaths attributed to alcohol consumption.

The findings indicated that even moderate alcohol consumption increases the risk of several cancers, including breast, colorectal, liver, and esophageal cancers.

Moreover, it was found that the risk increases proportionally with the amount of alcohol consumed. Heavy drinkers face a significantly higher risk compared to those who abstain or drink only occasionally.

In addition, alcohol can also damage humans deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), impair the body’s ability to repair DNA damage, and disrupt hormone

levels, all of which contribute to cancer development.

With that being said, the WHO Member States endorsed a Global alcohol plan 2022-2030, to reduce the harmful use of alcohol through effective, evidence-based strategies at national, regional, and local levels

STAY NATURAL

In this generation, where mental performance is highly valued, the use of “brain boosters” became increasingly popular. Whereas people seek ways to improve themselves in areas where they struggle and even seek something to improve cognitive performance. But are these brain boosters beneficial, or do they just simply raise health concerns to people using it?

There have been products of brain boosters launched in every market that aims to enhance brain performance and reports that those products are becoming popular. Those brain pills are not a necessity; they could affect the factor of one’s health miserably, not just physically, but also mentally.

First, it is important to note that the use of these brain boosters can lead to people completely neglecting fundamental health practices such as eating a well-balanced diet, doing exercises, or even sufficient sleep. Neglecting these essential habits could completely undermine their overall well-being. Where they might become dependent on brain boosters, they might think that taking those substances is enough to enhance brain function. But that’s not enough by just taking them, because what truly enhances brain function is also doing fundamental health exercises to improve brain performance, aside from taking pills.

Second, it is imperative to consider the fact that not all brain boosters are approved by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). From the fact that many boosters lack regulation by government bodies like FDA, this means that the safety of the product is not always guaranteed. Those fake medicines can cause harm to those taking brain pills, which instead of helping one’s thinking, will only make the situation worse. People taking fake pills can acquire disease from it. Fake pills can contain substances that may harm the brain, leading to conditions like seizures or long-term brain damage.

Last, the belief that one can achieve a peak cognitive performance or a skilled mind by just taking brain boosters can create a false sense of security. The mindset of those people can underestimate the power and importance of mental exercises, like reading and problem-solving, which are essential in cognitive health. They may start to believe that taking brain boosters is a primary key in enhancing cognitive performances, or a pill can replace the hard work of mental exercises can diminish motivation. Thereby missing out on the cognitive benefits that come from mental exercise.

However, taking brain boosters have the potential improvement in cognitive performances in the aspect of memory, focus, and mental clarity. This pill may help enhance brain performance and increase productivity.

As mentioned earlier, this

Puffing Away the Future

Have you seen the dim corners and the hidden spaces of our classrooms?

There is a troubling trend, and it is spreading like wildfire. E-cigarettes, often seen as a “cool” and harmless alternative to smoking, have found their way into the hands of students—our friends, classmates, and siblings. But behind the clouds of vapor lies a harsh truth: e-cigarettes are not as safe as they seem.

Many students are drawn to vaping because of its sweet flavors and stylish designs. Advertisements make it look fun and exciting, but they don’t show the reality. Inside these sleek devices are harmful chemicals, including nicotine, which is highly addictive. For young minds still growing, nicotine can mess

reliance of just taking pills can erode low self-esteem, making individuals feel less capable of achieving their goals without external aid. This belief can also lead to psychological effects like anxiety or pressure to perform.

In conclusion, there are concerns associated with brain boosters that warrant attention through their lack of regulation and research, neglecting fundamental health practices and even false sense of security. This may cause individuals to degrade themselves, creating a mindset that they only achieve goals with the use of pills instead of their natural understanding.

Everyone should choose a path of health that respects our brain’s natural abilities. It’s time for the people to empower each other that we need to embrace the capabilities of our knowledge and wisdom. Let’s build an environment where taking brain boosters should not be our priority; this time, we need to build habits that support sustainable cognitive health. STAY NATURAL!

School Gardens :

Nutrition for Health

Nutrition and health can surely be achieved if fruits and vegetables in schools are well cared of.

At present, health and nutrition in schools are once again receiving attention. Some students have poor health due to a lack of education about valuing their health and well-being. But what is the best project to help students learn and understand the importance of health?

The concept of school gardening began in the 19th century to combat malnutrition and educate young people about sustainable living.

“School gardens are a fantastic way to transition from a more traditional classroom to an outdoor, experiential learning opportunity centered on student engagement and critical thinking,” according to the official publication of Action for Healthy Kids.

Furthermore, school gardening allows students to engage in physical activities, learn about nutrition, understand the process of growing nutritious food, and discover proper environmental care. School gardens can also be integrated into various subjects such as mathematics, science, health, literacy, and social studies.

Gardens can cultivate vegetables like malunggay, rich in iron and vitamin A; tomatoes, abundant in lycopene; and kangkong, high in fiber. Fresh fruits and vegetables from school gardens are natural sources of vitamins and minerals. But what are the benefits and challenges of having a school garden?

Benefits of School Gardens:

with brain development, affecting memory, and learning of students.

• School gardens promote good health and nutrition among students.

• They teach students discipline and the value of caring for the environment.

• They encourage students to live an active lifestyle.

Challenges of School Gardens:

• Sufficient time and funds are needed to properly maintain a garden.

• In some schools, planting can be difficult due to limited or small spaces.

• Regular care for the plants must be ensured for the project to succeed. While there may be challenges in implementing such projects, we should always think positively because these initiatives benefit not only schools but also students.Fresh food from gardens strengthens students’ immune systems, boosts their energy, and helps prevent malnutrition. Moreover, it instills discipline in eating habits and environmental care among students.

It’s heartbreaking to see young people, full of potential, risking their health for a moment of curiosity or peer pressure. The act of vaping might feel harmless, even fun, at first. But over time, it can lead to a dangerous cycle of dependence and health problems, like lung issues and heart complications. What’s even more alarming is how e-cigarettes are changing school life. Students sneak quick puffs in bathrooms or during breaks, hiding from teachers and pretending everything is fine.

Through the help of this project in every school, a healthier generation can gradually be formed. Let us start this initiative because it brings nutrition to our health!

But deep down, many of them feel trapped, ashamed, or scared. Some want to stop but don’t know how.

As classmates, we see it happening, and sometimes we don’t know what to do. Should we speak up? Should we stay quiet? It’s not easy to confront a friend, but staying silent only makes the problem grow. This is a call to action, not just for students but for teachers, and parents. We need to educate ourselves and others about the dangers of re-cigarettes. We need to support those who are struggling to quit and show them they’re not alone. Because when we look beyond the smoke, we see students with dreams, talents, and a future worth fighting for. Let’s not let vaping steal that, we can help each other breathe freely again. Don’t let e-cigarettes puff away our future.

UNITED AS ONE

“When there is unity, there is always a victory.”

They say that when everyone unites, great things are bound to happen. This statement best describes Itawes National High School (INHS) as they all unite for the preparation for the District Meet 2024.

This preparation isn’t just about the competition; it’s about the unity that has blossomed among students, teachers, and the inspiring leadership of our School Principal, Dr. Rolan Catubag.

One of the most remarkable actions of teamwork and dedication occurred when students rolled up their sleeves to clean the school’s surrounding forest area. Armed with tools and determination, they cleared the thick grass and ensured the grounds were clean for the upcoming events. They showed us that any task can be accomplished with ease when people come together in unity and lend a helping hand to one another.

Meanwhile, in order to build an art that has a beautiful meaning, both teachers and students came together to paint a heart-melting mural at the back of the gymnasium. Their creative efforts transformed the once plain walls into a visual masterpiece. The mural is more than just a decoration; it represents the unity and culture of the school in every brushstroke. Leadership was key in bringing everyone together.

So, Dr. Rolan Catubag, the school’s beloved principal I, played a big role in bringing everyone together. Under his guidance, the teachers and students worked side by side. His leadership style has inspired the entire school to rise to the preparation with passion and determination.

Even the opening program was a showcase of creativity and unity. Instead of the usual emcee leading the ceremony, the school’s broadcasting team took the job. This decision showed that the school trusts students to take on important roles and gives them a chance to lead.

BALL OF LIFE

Life is much like a ball—at times, we find ourselves at the peak, feeling in joy and success, while at other moments, we are down, burdened by sorrow and failure.

For James Ron Martin, the Grade 11 team captain of the Volleyball Boys, life can be compared to a ball—sometimes it's up in the air, full of momentum and energy, while other times, it faces struggles and falls to the ground. Martin and his team have experienced both the highs and lows of the sport, they have faced challenges along the way. Despite all the setbacks, they refused to give up and continued to fight with determination.

In an interview, Martin shared the strategies that helped his team win. He said that their strategy is to unsettle the opponent and intimidate them. This method allowed them to maintain control during tense moments in the game. Meanwhile, one of the main issues the team encountered was their communication inside the court. Misunderstandings and lapses in coordination sometimes made the matches harder, but they learned to adjust as the competition continued.

On the other hand, Martin said that their inspiration in winning the competition is their coach, Mr. Joel Balunsat. According to Martin, his coach's words of encouragement and belief in the team kept them focused even when doubt crept in.

During the District Meet, they faced tough competition from teams like SAGA and LOT. They fought hard, and although it wasn’t an easy battle, they stood their ground. When asked how he handled his team as captain, James admitted, "As a team captain, mahirap silang i-handle kasi minsan attitude sila, pero kinakaya ko naman". His role was not only about leading in games but also about managing different personalities and keeping the team united in their goal.

James Ron Martin is a leader who embodies strength. Like a ball that bounces back after every fall, he rises to meet every challenge, guiding his team to do the same. Though the path is tough and filled with obstacles, Martin continues to push forward, never backing down, whether it’s on the court or in life.

Indeed, Itawes National High School (INHS) has proven that any task can be accomplished successfully when everyone works together in unity. This event will be a beautiful reminder of the bonds we build and the dreams we chase when we come together as one — united and undeterred as ever.

SCORCHING UNITY

In any event in our lives, whether it is inside or outside the school, during classes or extracurricular activities, there will always be competitions. Everyone will try their best to reach the top, to race with each other to win, and to end every journey standing on the top podium. But do people really need to compete with others all the time?

Many of the people in the current generation always want to win. Just like during any sports events such as the ongoing District Meet 2024 of the Tuao West District held at Itawes National High School (INHS). Every school aims high, and every player wants to achieve the highest title. However, the best thing that everyone should foster at these times is not the urge to win, but the will to unite with every single player, regardless of where they came from.

There are many reasons why unity should be fostered in every game setting. First, by having unity, participants will be able to create a safe and peaceful playing environment. If every person involved in a game unites, whether towards their teammates or opponents, every game will run smoothly and peacefully.

Second, conflicts or issues between players or schools will be avoided. By having unity, everyone agrees to maintain harmony with everyone, upholding friendly games and acceptable attitudes towards each other. It is at events like these that issues and rumors often arise, which affect not only the students themselves, but also the schools. But by having unity in the forefront, these can be evaded.

Third, the student athletes will become more friendly when they are in good terms with others. Unity will come in handy when

the athletes aim for fostering comradeship and sportsmanship. The athletes will be able to form great bonds with others and broaden their circles across multiple schools and areas.

Fourth, the selection of representatives for the higher meets will be much organized and rightful. This is because unity also involves integrity along the way. By having unity, everyone will agree to each other in selecting the best athletes to fight for the next levels. Winning will not be based solely because of the school where the athletes came from, but because of the performance and potential they showcase to everyone.

All in all, everyone should foster unity, and competitiveness should be out of the picture. As highlighted in this year’s district meet theme “TUAO AS ONE: Transformative Sports Undertaking and Activities for Optimal and Sturdy Oneness and Nurturing Engagement and Camaraderie” unity is un- doubtedly important. The five participating schools are here in the district meet 2024 to achieve a common goal – to select the best players to represent the district in the municipal level and in the higher meets. Everyone may battle and treat each other like foes for now, but soon, everyone will play, cheer, and win for Tuao.

The sepak takraw girl’s team was composed of Venus Dingil, Nicole Camayang, Shane Gamboa, Rona Balberan, Trisha Mae Addatu, and Katrina Juan with their coach Jayson Lumelay and chaperone Mary Jane Tamayao.

Spotlight

In today’s sports, there is no doubt who gets the most attention – Athletes with their jaw dropping performances and larger agendas in life. The question, however, is why do athletes have their place up in the pedestal higher than journalists who cover them when both contribute the same to the culture of sport?

Athletes have always been the face of their respective sports, praised for their talent, dedication and ability to entertain. It's easy to understand why they are idolized, seeing how they win championships, break records and know how to set a play that makes the fans go wild. Their athletic achieve- ments and personal stories become the heart of sports coverage, making them instant superstars. Fans and media

alike revere their on-field performances, often ignoring the behind-the-scenes work that goes into covering their world. Enter the journalist, the one who spends hours digging through the sports data, the one who interviews and asks questions just to provide the necessary details needed for the athletes’ stories. Journalist who shares and makes sure the whole world knows what is happening in sports. But when was the last time you saw a sports journalist celebrated with the same fervor as a championship-winning athlete? The imbalance is seen immediately. While athletes enjoy the attention given to them, the journalist gets left behind the scenes, often forgotten and ignored. The favor of people on athletes is understandable however, this favor often leads to an unfortunate devalue of the journalist’s role and work. The rush and excitement given by athletes create an environment that causes journalists to be overshad- owed and have little attention and favor in them, but this should not be the case. Journalists should get the same attention as athletes do, both fields should have the same treatment as they are both equal in sports culture. The answer to this imbalance lies not in diminishing the importance of athletes, but in elevating the voices of the journalists who bring those athletes’ stories to life. It’s time we recognize journalists and make sure that beyond the spotlight, both fields are equally given attention.
