The success of TCPLA and our first cohort would not have been possible without the help of our supporters over the years. I have shared a lot of data in my post, but the document attached shows the faces behind the data. TCPLA is not just a program, it is an equity initiative that is writing counter-narratives for Black and Latinx students who can perform on par with their White and Asian counterparts when given the same resources and supports. Their zip codes did not dictate their access and opportunity. It is time for us to change our focus about what Black and Latinx students cannot do, and let us focus on what they can do. My favorite quotation for the people who doubted Black and Latinx students could excel in advanced mathematics and take AP Calculus comes from James Baldwin. James said, “Those who say it cannot be done are usually interrupted by others who are doing it.”
