So here is how to start with a shimmering cake, your dream cake. Follow the instructions if you like to do it like a Boss in baking.

Designing: take your piping tip and fix it well with the piping bag. Now, start to pipe the exciting royal icing into a design of your choice. Now that you have completed with the piping keep the cake craft aside and let it harden. This is supposed to take several hours say about 5-6 hours.

Lustre paint: Pour the golden lustre in the small bowl. Add some alcohol. You can even add some extract but add them carefully. Combine the lustre until you see the mixture attain some consistency.

Adding lustre paint: You can now add this lustre paint on the royal icing. As you do this, the cake craft will change altogether. After you have coated the icing, add another layer of lustre paint and you can keep painting it for heavier finish.

If you have brown royal icing, just add a coat of golden to it and see it become antique golden. Remember when you are using lustre on your cake icing, the same has to harden quite a bit before being painted. This is because brushing metallic colour on the royal icing can cause it to crack or get damaged. Ensure to give this cake project a little more time than usual and you will find the difference all by yourself.

Not even the tiniest speck of moisture should touch your cake. Moisture spoils cake decorations very easily. So, ensure there is no chance of moisture entering the cake.

Now, that you have known how to blend the lustre and then paint it over the cake, the one thing that you should consider is the paint brush with which you are supposed to paint your cake. Use a flat edge brush with stiff bristles. This will help the cake gain adequate colour.
