The PRESIDENT’S OUTBOX

To All our Bicol University Faculty: HAPPY WORLD TEACHER’S DAY! I believe there will never be a much sweeter voice than that of the teacher, sweating it out, right inside the classroom. According to Richardson, “technology does not replace people – it enables people; it only replaces people when they do not know how to wield it.” Do not ever think that the wonderful voice of the teacher can be silenced by technology. Hence, I would like you all to remember that each of you matter for you are the anchor that keeps Bicol University on the right direction towards achieving our vision of a transformative education. Thank you for continuously doing your best for your students and Bicol University. Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist and Bicolano writer Conrado de Quiros said it so rightly when he stated that “Being world class does not mean going internationally and showing our best out there. Being world class is passion and commitment to our profession; being world class is giving our best to teaching. Being world class starts right inside the class room.” Indeed, being world-class is a change in attitude and a shifting of perspectives to something more noble and innovative, and BEING THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF. As we honor all teachers this World Teacher’s Month, let us reflect on the many things teachers have to endure each day as they teach; for teachers are humans, too, with the same joys and sorrows each of us feels. Keeping this in mind, I would like to leave you with this message: “I realized that being a teacher is incomparable. As we teach our students, we learn how to cover our sorrow with a smile. We learn how to stay vigorous with all the tasks we endure. We learn how to give hope even though ours is unclearly seen. We learn how to give strength even at times that we are weak. Nobody would know what kind of life a teacher has… unless they become one.”

Be greatly joyful for being the keepers of knowledge and preservers of the future!
