PRESIDENT’S OUTBOX
F
ebruary had been a tough month thus far. With the threat brought by the Novel Corona Virus (NCoV), we have taken precautionary measures to ensure health safety of our students, faculty and staff, and stakeholders of this institution. One of which is to temporarily ban all travels outside the region until the end of the 1st quarter of 2020. We have also postponed the 2020 National State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association (SCUAA) Games that was scheduled on March 22 to 28, 2020. This threat is not to be taken lightly and our efforts to prevent the spread of the disease should be taken seriously. Let me remind everyone that we should stay and eat healthy as well as properly washing our hands. These simple reminders may be taken for granted but I assure you that these routine works. My congratulations to our athletes and their trainers for emerging victorious during the 2020 Regional SCUAA Games.

Virgin Labfest 2020 selects CAL student playwright Landeza
B
achelor of Performing Arts (BPeA) II student Jobert Landeza has been one of the few selected playwrights for the Virgin Labfest 2020 to be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on June 10 to 28, 2020. Now on its 16th year, Virgin Labfest is an annual festival of one-act plays that provides Filipino playwrights a venue to present their unpublished, untried, and unstaged works. Virgin Labfest is a project of the Manilabased playwrights group Writer’s Bloc, Inc., acclaimed theatre company Tanghalang Pilipino, and the CCP. Sorsogon-based playwright Jobert Landeza was overwhelmed when his work
entitled “Titser Kit” was one of the twelve selected scripts out of the two hundredninety submissions this year. “Masaya at sobrang nakaka-overwhelm. Mala-butas ng karayom ang screening process at national search pa siya. Out of 290 entries, ang (liit ng) chance na mapili ang isang estudyante plus taga-region pa,” he said. Landeza was proud despite the pressure of being selected together with some renowned playwrights. “Nakaka-pressure dahil ka line-up ko this year ang mga batikang manunulat ng Pilipinas, including Ms. Bibeth Orteza na kilalang direktor at writer hindi lang sa teatro LABFEST | P3
