The PRESIDENT’S OUTBOX

ISSN 2094-3991 Once every year, we celebrate Women’s Month. You see, it still is a sad reality that women are disadvantaged and abused in our society. Thus, we continue to advocate women’s rights and fight against abuse. Bicol University is one with the nation in this advocacy. Allow me, therefore, to dedicate this month’s message to all the women of our beloved university. Women empowerment is not just a term. It is something we consciously work towards. In Bicol University, we support this through encouraging gender equality in such a way that there is no discrimination between male and female for any position. Thus we have both female and male presidents and officials, down to guards and janitors. All occupations have benefits and promotions based solely on merit rather than gender. We also uphold RA 9262, or the act defining Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC) in all aspects, and ensure that our female employees know about it. We, however, need to further strengthen this advocacy by similarly disseminating the information to our men and encouraging them to ensure that women’s rights are upheld, whether in the workplace, at home, or in social gatherings. Surely, a world-class university is one where gender equality is observed and espoused. To world-class women of Bicol University!
