The home was designed using the mi shack modular design system, ”which pre-packages an architect’s design process into preconfigured modules called ‘smart zones’. These zones can be used in any number of combinations on a variety of site types to produce an architect-designed product with its design heart firmly based in the art of architecture – and is commonly termed ‘modular architecture’. “Not to be confused with prefabrication”, stresses Marcus, “as any building/structure can be prefabricated in a factory and delivered and installed on site; the way it is designed doesn’t have to be modular in nature to be prefabricated. That said, we use a hybrid of prefabricated and pre-made elements in the construction process to further augment the benefits of cost, time reduction and increased quality control. “We are constantly looking for the ‘sweet spot’ between the different modalities, as like most things there is no perfect onesize-fits-all system; there is always a need for customisation to fine-tune to the particular needs of each project. “Solar-passive
