Brolga Developments & Construction (Brolga) is a Broome based builder. Director, Dene Purdon, established the business in 2001 and since then, has been involved in over two hundred building projects in Broome and the Kimberley region in almost all genres of building from ablution blocks in conservation parks, to hospital facilities, to luxury homes and most things in between. Located at 13 Magabala Rd, Broome North, this home has been designed by award winning architect Craig Steere from Craig Steere Architects, in collaboration with Brolga Developments & Construction to develop great Architecture in a cost effective way to develop housing solution for the Kimberley. These designs are highly functional, cost-effective and builder-friendly, incorporating methods of construction that take advantage of local trades, skills and materials. Designs are based on maximizing the flexibility and speed of construction of lightweight building methods and utilize steel-framed walls and timber truss roofs clad in corrugated iron. A strong focus was kept on the traditional concepts of shelter and shade, while the use of louvers’ and breezeways to allow cross-ventilation and airflow was of particular importance.
