Model Directing 101 The Blue Rooms Manchester

Step One TALK TO YOUR MODEL One of the best ways to get your photoshoot started is by having an actual conversation with your model while they are getting ready to shoot. Introducing yourself and having a simple conversation will make things run much smoother once its time to begin directing.

Step Two LET YOUR MODEL MAKE THE FIRST MOVE An efficient way to do this is by letting the model start with their own poses first, then adjusting from there when necessary. This is incredibly helpful when it comes to keeping a positive relationship with your model, and also determine how much directing you will need to do throughout the shoot.

Step Three HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE Keeping a positive attitude throughout the shoot will help make everyone on set feel more comfortable, which ultimately results in better work. Encourage your model throughout the shoot with positive reinforcement.

Step Four FIND INSPIRATION

It can sometimes help to look through magazines pertaining to the subject you are shooting to gain inspiration. If you, as a director, do not know what you’re looking for, then it’s going to be difficult for your model to hit the mark. Instead, go into the shoot with an idea in mind and find a way to translate that to your model for a more successful outcome.
