Scouts and Guides in India from its initial aid took major initiatives to practice its principle of services to others in all possible way. The present generation are attracted towards the material world started realising their role as participating citizen in improving the welfare of their Communities.

I appreciate the efforts of each and everyone who are taking keen interest to promote a Healthy, Green, Clean and Happy India. Our efforts need to grow in many multitudes.

Coming together is a beginning. The Bharat Scouts & Guides National Association has already started working to have a healthy partnership with other Organisations working to create a positive impact in our Community.

For the first time in the history of Bharat Scouts and Guides that we successfully hosted the 36th Conference of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). More than 440 delegates and observers from 119 Countries and Territories attended the Conference from 18th to 22nd September, 2017 at Hotel Pullman, Aerocity, New Delhi.

Chairman of World Scout Committee, Mr. Craig Turpi and Mr. Joao Armando Goncalves, former Chairman of World Scout Committee were also present on opening day and had exclusive meeting with our President alongwith me to discuss on achieving our “VISION 2024” and reach atleast 10 million young people by 2023 through scouting/guiding.

We have a lot of opportunities at the same time challenges in achieving the goal of the movement. I, earnestly request all the members to come forward with suggestions and plans for achieving the target of 10 million members by 2023. We will achieve our mission as a team.

FROM EDITOR'S DESK laiknd dh dye ls Lord Baden Powell conceived the idea of scouting to build a strong fundamental for a “Nation with Character”. His famous book “Scouting for Boys” he referred as “A HANDBOOK FOR INSTRUCTION IN GOOD CITIZENSHIP THROUGH WOOD CRAFT”.

While referring to the role of Adults, he referred to it as Adult guidance and supervision. Therefore, Scouting is essentially a game for youth under Adult guidance.

Recent news, reports appearing in various public media is shocking and perturbing. Adult in Scouting are getting undue publicity for wrong reasons.

We organise large gathering for youth, do service in Community. We help people at risk during natural and manmade disasters; media ignores all good deeds of youth.

Why we are in news for wrong reasons? It needs introspection volunteers in scouting are backbone provided that they are not for “PERSONAL GAINS”.

Let us pray wisdom prevails.

MEMBERSHIP Our Member Organisations (MO) lie at the heart of everything we do at WAGGGS and we strive to help them grow, develop and expand.

We seek to provide them with the support they need to provide the best Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting experience possible to their members.

At the same time we want to keep the international spirit of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting alive and thriving, and continue to provide a link at an international level between all 146 Member Organisations and the 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts that we currently reach.

Looking to the future, a key part of our Vision 2020 is our aim to expand our reach to 12 million members across 154 countries. Through our New Countries Campaign, we want to bring further countries into the Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting family.

Expanding into a new country is a challenging but rewarding process.

We believe that the benefits for girls and young women in these countries are worth the effort-

RELEVANCE OF

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA'S MESSAGE TO THE WORLD SCOUTING

S

eptember of every year is very significant for our youth in the movement for two reasonsone being celebration of Pachmarhi Day on 10th. 61 years ago, Pachmarhi was selected as the training centre by our leaders and today, it has been flourishing as the place for Indian Trainers; second being the historic speech made by Swami Vivekananda, the great monk, the mentor and the great leader of the youth at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago on 11th September in 1893. If we analyze his address, Scout movement has adopted his message to prepare the Youth all over the world to build up peace and fraternity.

Even after 125 years of his inspiring and motivational address, the message stands applicable to the y o u t h i n p a r t i c u l a r. S w a m i Vivekananda was a bit nervous when he rose up to address the august gathering; but he prayed for the blessings of the Goddess of Learning, Saraswati. This draws our attention to faith in God. In a few moments, he felt as if he gained energy to speak and opened his eyes to address the audience as `Sisters and Brothers of America`.

Immediately, there was a standing ovation from the gathering continuously for two minutes as that style of address was never heard.

Indeed, that was the creative mind of Swamy. It gave the world the message to respect women.

The 9/11 of 1893 was about love, harmony and brotherhood. If the world had remembered these words, the terrorist attack on World Trade Centre would not have taken place. It is a coincidence that the terrorist attack had taken place on 11th September which was the date of historic address by Vivekanand. Swami Vivekanand cited in his address that rituals will not connect an individual to divinity except service to fellow men. So, youth should live with the poor, the depressed, the illiterate and make them dignified men. Then they will get the blessings of all these people before they begin their life in the world. Scouting provides a number of opportunities for service right from the age of 5+.

In his address he stressed on intolerance and hatred as barriers for establishing world Peace. We campaign as Messengers of Peace and our Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers have been actively participating in this activity.

Vivekananda strongly believed in the power of "Yuva Shakti' (youth power) and saw a vital place for youngsters in the realm of nationbuilding. The virtues of love, brotherhood, tolerance, loyalty to our nation are to be developed by the youth to prepare themselves as healthy partners of nation building.

Narendra, as he was originally known, made the world to learn brotherhood for the first time. The idea of brotherhood conveys to

treat all men equal without caste, creed, religion or region.

The Founder, Lord Baden Powell must have followed every word of Swamy Vivekananda`s addresses and after fourteen years of Chicago Addresses, Scouting has emerged with a strong foundation of Law and Promise to shape the character of the youth. Vivekanand`s inspiring words:”Men, men, these are wanted: everything else will be r e a d y, b u t s t r o n g, v i g o r o u s, believing young men, sincere to the backbone are wanted. A hundred such and the world becomes revolutionized” calls upon the youth to build modern India by developing creativity and skills.

Change is a sign of development and youth should develop new i d e a s. S c o u t i n g g i v e s m a n y activities to develop this creativity.

As B.P. said badges and certificates are a sign of recognition but the reality is in working for them sincerely in a honest way.

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS 41st World Scout Conference in Azerbaijan Baku 1st World Scout Conference was held at Azerbaijan Baku from 14th to 18th August, 2017. There were 148 National Scout Organizations out of which166 NSOs have attended. The theme of the Conference was TOGETHER FOR POSITIVE CHANGE. The Bharat Scouts and Guides have got Apperception Certificate from Wo r l d O r g a n i z a t i o n o f S c o u t Movement for Increase of Membership of TOP 21 NSOs. It is a Great Achievement.

Australia and Srilanka candidates have succeeded. Shri Craig Turpie from United Kingdom was elected as Chairperson of the World Scout Committee 2017-2020. Shri Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General of WOSM played the important role.

Honourable Chief National Commissioner, Dr.K.K. Khandelwal, IAS, presented the Mementos to all the eminent leaders of the WOSM and other National Scout O r g a n i z a t i o n s. Ko r e a S c o u t Association and Other National Organizations have extended the invitation to Honourable Chief National Commissioner along with delegation to grace the occasion.

In the evening participants were taken to the Place of fire to observe Azerbaijan Evening. Local Traditional items were exhibited.

Cultural programs were presented.

We visited the place of fire where it was believed that the flames have been continuous for the past thousand years. Delicious dinner was also arranged at the sight.

On 17th August an input was given o n Pa r t n e r s h i p w i t h Wo r l d Organization of Scout Movement and United Nations Organization.

Conference resolutions were continued. In the second half, topics like Scouting Development,

Communications and Strategic Engagements, Organizational Development were discussed. All were divided into groups to have group interactions along with the experts deputed by the WOSM. Big posters were prepared and displayed outside the hall to discuss the objectives.

Honours and Awards, 16th World Scout Moot, Ireland 2021 progress report, 24th World Scout Jamboree, North America 2019 progress update report were presented. Outgoing committee and its Chairperson were invited to the dias showing their achievements through power point presentation and they were given a farewell amidst full of emotions. A presentation was given by interested hosting NSOs for 42nd World Scout Conference and 14th World Scout Youth Forum 2020. A voting was conducted for next 42nd World conference between Malaysia and Egypt Scout

Associations. The Conference has given more votes to Egypt. House has applauded. Ceremoniously the flag of WOSM was given to the Egypt Scout Association under the leadership of Secretary General of WOSM. He has also explained the vision 2023 of WOSM. By 2023 Scouting will be the world's leading educational youth movement, enabling 100 million young people to be active citizens creating positive change in their communities and in the world based on shared values. The newly elected Chairperson of World Scout C o m m i t t e e S h r i C r a i g Tu p i e addressed the House. He has assured to achieve the objectives of WOSM with cooperation of all NSOs. In the evening, participants were taken to Bhuta Palace where cultural programs like songs and dances were presented. Dinner was arranged in Honour of all the NSOs delegates. The World Conference came to an end with full joy and enthusiasm.

101 year of guiding in Kuala Lumpur – A Report by - Ashitha Melissa Sunder To commemorate the 101 year of Guiding in Kuala Lumpur, KLGG International camp was held at Hulu Langat, Selangor, Malaysia from 25th to 29th August, 2017 in which 700 Guides and leaders from various countries participated. Ms. Ashitha Melissa Sunder and Ms. Pinto Shalon Suzanne from Karnataka State and Ms. Karre Varsha from Andhra Pradesh State represented the Bharat Scouts and Guides in this camp.

In the closing ceremony, our patrol was awarded the 1st prize for our participation in the activities, and we also received certificates and badges. We also exchanged souvenirs and contacts with all our new friends from Malaysia and other countries and promised to keep in touch, after which we departed.

National Events Visit to Manav Rachna International University The team of Professionals from National Headquarters comprising of Shri Raj Kumar Kaushik, Dy. Director Scout (Project), Shri Amar B. Chhetri, Dy. Director (Boy Programme), Mrs. Kumud Mehra, Assistant Director visited Manav Rachna International University on 12th September, 2017 and met Dr. Prashant Bhalla, Chancellor and other officials of the University.

The discussion was held regarding formation of Scouting/Guiding Units in the University and its Institutions.

The presentation of BSG was done by the team of Professionals of National Headquarters. About 25 officials of different institutions were present in the session. All the questions regarding Scouting were answered by the team. Everyone was satisfied and motivated to open the Units in their Institutions.

As per discussion, Basic Courses will be organized at Gadpuri for all the six sections as per convenient dates of the Manav Rachna University. The literature related to all sections was also given.

Shri Sumit Kumar, Manager, Education Promotion Society for India was also present and Dr. Bhalla and Shri Sumit assured to invite the BSG in their ensuing General Assembly scheduled to be held in Chennai on 6th October to highlight the BSG.

National Workshop - Action on Body Confidence The Bharat Scouts and Guides had organized National Workshop - Action on Body Confidence - A Free Being Me programme from 9th – 11th August, 2017 in which 17 participants from 8 states participated.

WAGGGS and the Dove Self Esteem Project have been in global partnership since 2013, bringing the Free Being Me body confidence activities to over 3.5 million girls and boys by the end of 2016. Action on Body Confidence has been created to support Scouts and Guides to plan and run Action Projects that reach more people, in a meaningful way, as well as provide the opportunity to share their ideas and experiences with other members across the world.

The programmes include surveys, group discussions and creative activities–Discovering Image Myth, Advocacy and its importance, where participants were able to learn how to overcome problems like low body confidence. They had clear vision to change the society and to plan their own Action Project to make changes happen.

These participants will act as State Level Coordinators in their respective states and will cascade the campaign down further at grass root level, also reaching peer people across India by running workshops in schools, universities, societies etc.

National Training Centre, Pachmarhi Re–Orientation Course for Trainers (Guide Wing) Re–Orientation Course for Trainers (Guide Wing) was held at Besant Park, Doddaballapur from 9th to 11th August, 2017 in which Trainers from Karnataka–30, Kerala–02 and Tamil Nadu State–05 participated.

The syllabus such as Fundamentals, Recent Changes in SOT, Leadership Competencies, Different Areas of Training, Formal, in formal & Self Training, Formulating Objectives, Personal Support, Role Function & Skills of a Trainer, Training Study & Training Assignment, Influencing People, Problem Solving, Evaluation, Free Being Me, Roll Call Drill Were dealt according to Scheme of Training Guide. As the course was like a workshop majority of the sessions were handled by the trainees as they are the trainers. During spare time ‘Skill’ in practical was completed. All Faiths Pray Meeting was orgainsed on the 3rd day morning.

On 3rd day, Shri PGR Sindhia, State Chief Commissioner of Karnataka State was present in valedictory function.

As a honour to the trainers State Chief Commissioner presented a medal to all the participants of the course, he blessed the participants as well as thanked National Headquarter for permitting them to organize the course.

The course was conducted by Ms. M.N. Machamma, DDGLT with the help of trainers from Karnataka state as supporting staff.

Shri Arup Sarkar, Assistant Director, Northern Region was the Leader of the Workshop. The Planning Team members include Shri B. Hari Krishnan, WAGGGS Projects Team - Bharat Scouts and Guides, Shri Imran Khan, FBM Facilitator and Shri Haroon Malik, Surf Smart Facilitator.

Shri Pyish Shukla, District Commissioner, Ganderbal District, Shri M.A. Tramboo, SOC (Scouts, Sheikh Mohammed Shafi, Dist Secretary, Ganderbal District were Guests of Honour in the Workshop.

The core objective of this workshop is to train Unit Leaders and Peer Educators in WAGGGS Global Advocacy Projects, who in turn will help states to surge the project curriculum at grass root level. They will also act as District Level Coordinators in their respective districts and will shower the campaign down further at grass root level, also reaching peer people across state by running workshops at schools, colleges, societies etc. As a result of it, Scouts and Guides will feel empowered to speak out against Image Myth and will run their own to take action project to make a positive difference in the society.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan "Free Being Me" workshop was conducted at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nagrota on 19.08.2017 with 29 Guides and 65 Scouts. "Free Being Me" workshop was also organized at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bantalab on 21.08.2017 in which 166 Scouts participated.

Odisha 43 Unit Leaders participated in the first workshop on `Stop the Violence project` organized on 19.08.2017 at State Headquarters, Unit-3, Bhubaneswar.

State Level Workshop on Advocacy Project “Surf Smart”, “Free Being Me” and “Stop the Violence” was organized by Odisha State Bharat Scouts and Guides under the leadership of “Surf Smart” Trainer Miss Sunita Nayak, Free Being Me Trainer Smt. Anamika Das and “Stop the Violence” Trainer Miss Kajol Mohanty. It was organized from 17th to 19th August, 2017 at State Headquarters, Unit-3, Bhubaneswar. 55 Adult Leaders from 9 different districts participated.

Regional Events Northern Region Action committee of Unaided Recognised Private Schools in Delhi organised curtain raising celebration FIFA under 17th World Cup Tournament in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs at National Stadium, India Gate, New Delhi on 19th August, 2017 in which 43 Rovers, Rangers and 20 Unit Leaders from Delhi state and 23 from Haryana State participated.

The programme was started in the afternoon with registration and distribution refreshments to the participants and division of area for seating arrangements.

Shri S.K. Bhattacharya, President of Action Committee of Unaided Recognised Private Schools Delhi gave the information about the “17th FIFA World Cup Tournament” to be held in India. 200 Unaided Recognised Private Schools of Delhi represented. Shri Xavier (Secretary of Fifa World Cup) was the Chief Guest.

Activities like March Past with different Countries and Schools Play cards, Our National Flag, Cultural Programmes, Skipping Rope, Football, Football Playing with Yoga, Football Playing with Dance, Yoga, Karate etc. were organised. The programme came to an end with singing of National Anthem. Shri Anesh Kumar, Regional Organising Commissioner (S) was the Leader of the Programme. He was assisted by the invited staff members.

North East Region The 71st Independence Day of India was celebrated at Bharat Scouts and Guides, Regional Headquarters, office premises, Guwahati on 15th August, 2017. The National Flag was hoisted by Ch. Birendra Kumar Singh, ROC (S), NER at 8:30 a.m. Floral tributes were paid to those who sacrificed their lives to save our nation from colonial rule. National Anthem was sung. All the staff members of the Regional Headquarters and the public took active part in the programme.

Southern Regional Regional Level Rashtrapati Scout/Guide Award Testing Camp was held at STC, Doddaballapur, Karnataka with 51 Scouts and 90 Guides from Karnataka State. The Hon’ble State Chief Commissioner Shri P G R Sindhia graced the valedictory function at 17:30 hrs on 20th August, 2017 which was a combined programme along with the participants of the Scout and Guide Testing Camps and Cub and Bulbul participants for Badge Work. Shri Analendra Sarma, ROC (S) and Ms. Kriti Chandwani, ROC (G), Southern Region were the Leader of the respective sections.

Western Region The Bharat Scouts and Guides Western Regional Headquarters celebrated Independence Day at National Youth Complex, Gadpuri, Palwal, Haryana with the Children of Govt. Primary School, Gadpuri. The National Flag was hoisted by Shri Vijay Pal, In-charge, Gadpuri Police Station. All the teachers of Govt. School, Staff members of Western Regional Headquarters and National Youth Complex, Gadpuri were present over there. REPORTS FROM STATES Andaman and Nicobar Islands Six units of Scouts and Guides participated in the State Level 71st Independence Day Parade at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair. Scouts and Guides Units in all Districts of these Islands participated in Independence Day rally.

Assam Scouts and Guides of Open Rover Crew & Ranger Team, South Point School, Guwahati attended Flood Relief work in the presence of the State Officials of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Assam State at Kaliabor, Nagaon District on 26th August, 2017. They distributed food materials and necessary items among the victims.

71st Independence Day of India was celebrated on 15th August, 2017 in a befitting manner all over Assam. Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers including State Officials took active part in the Ceremonial Parade in the Khanapara Parade Ground, Guwahati where the Chief Minister of Assam hoisted the National Flag.

Awareness meet of Sports and Health was organised by G.M.C.H. on 27th August, 2017. 25 Rovers and Rangers under the Leadership of Shri Siddeswar Sutradhar, Rover Scout Leader, Guwahati open Rover Crew rendered their service at Guwahati.

Delhi The Delhi State Bharat Scouts and Guides celebrated 71 Independence Day function at State Headquarters on 14th August, 2017. Shri Mahesh Chand Sharma, Senior Vice-President and former Mayor, Municipal Corporation of Delhi was the Chief Guest and unfurled the National Flag. Shri Ram Gopal Goel, State Treasurer was the Guest of Honour. The Scouts and Guides along with Adult Leaders from Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Samalkha, Govt.

Boys Sr. Sec. School, Roop Nagar, No.1, Maharana Scout Group, Rana Pratap Sarvodaya Kanya Vidhyalaya, Rithala and Azad Scouts Group, Delhi, Rajdhani Scout Group, Indraprastha Scouts Open Group, numbering more than Two Hundred Fifty actively participated in the programme. Dr. (Ms.) Manik Barsaley, State Chief Commissioner and Dr. S.K. Sharma, State Commissioner (Scouts) extended their blessings to the Scouts & Guides.

Eastern Railway Officers' Colony Group Rover Crew under the BS&G, Eastern Railway, KPA has organised the Inter Group Football Tournament from 12th to 13th August, 17. Various groups from Kanchrapara District and Sealdah District participated in the tournament.

East Coast Railway World Scarf Day was celebrated by the KUR (MHSS) Railway School & HQOG on 1st August, 2017. 71st Independence Day was celebrated across all Districts of East Coast Railway.

Goa

Goa Scouts and Guides of Little Flower of Jesus High School, Calangute, Bardez, Goa helped The Broadway Book centre in arranging the books for the exhibition organised by them on 4th August, 2017.

The Bardez District organised a Hike at Revora on 12th August, 2017 with 80 Scouts and 72 Guides. 35 Scouts and 39 Guides of St. Michael`s Convent High School, Vagator, Anjuna enthusiastically participated and removed the weeds and swept the surroundings.

On 15th August, 2017, 25 Cubs and 25 Bulbuls of Little Flower of Jesus High School, Calangute presented Patriotic Songs on the Independence Day. 79 Scouts and 78 Guides of Rosary High School, Navelim participated at the Rally on 5th August, 2017 signifying “Water Conservation” carrying posters prepared by them highlighting the need to conserve water. Karnataka The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka organized Birth Centenary Celebrations of Sri V.P. Deenadayalu Naidu, former National Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides on 16th August, 2017 at Kondajji Basappa Auditorium, Bengaluru.

Sri U.T. Khader, Hon’ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Karnataka commenced the Celebration by lighting the Lamp and also paid a floral tribute to the portrait of Late V.P. Deenadayalu Naidu. In his address he said that he gratefully remembered the valuable service rendered by Sri Naidu to the development of Bengaluru City as 7th Mayor and Chairman, CITB and Member of Legislative Assembly and the Council.

Sri. P.G.R. Sindhia, State Chief Commissioner, in his address said that Sri Deenadayalu Naidu was a great leader and rendered valuable service to the community in Political, Educational, Spiritual, Social, Sports fields and for Scouts and Guides movement for more than Six decades.

Meghalaya State Bharat Scouts and Guides inducted the new Patron, Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Banwarilal Purohit and Shri Y. Tsering, I.A.S., Chief Secretary as the new President at Raj Bhavan, Shillong on 23rd August, 2017. The Induction Ceremony was felicitated by Shri Gary James, Special Officer, in which the Patron and the President made a solemn Scout Promise. Both were presented Scarfs by Shri Gasperly Marwein, Senior Member and Medallions by Shri D.P. Wahlang, I.A.S., State Chief Commissioner.

The special officer was presented a Professional Scout Medallion awarded by the World Scout Bureau–Asia Pacific Region Support Centre by the Governor of Meghalaya. Smt. W. Tariang, STC (G) and Smt. M. Lyngdoh, ASTC (G) was also presented the Hon’ble Charge of Leader Trainer by the Governor. The programme ended with a treat from the Governor.

Basic Course for Scout Masters and Guide Captains were held at Tura for the Garo Hills District from 25th to 31st August, 2017. 25 Scout Masters and 25 Guide Captains attended. Shri G. James was the Leader for Scout Wing and Smt. W. Tariang for Guide Wing.

Mizoram Scouts and Guides of Baptist Higher Secondary School, Lunglei District was conducted Cooking Class on 18th August, 2017 in which 65 Scouts/Guides participated.

Presbyterian English School, Republic Veng, Aizawl District successfully organised Handicraft Classs on 15th August, 2017 with 40 Guides.

Mizoram State Bharat Scouts and Guides took part in the celebration of Independence Day at state/districts level. Scouts and Guides actively participated in Independence Day Parade.

Odisha Golden Arrow Award Workshop for Cub Masters & Flock Leaders was held at State Headquarters, Unit-3, Bhubaneswar on 11.08.2017 in which 11 Cub Masters & Flock Leaders attended. The main aim of the workshop is to support the Cub/Bulbul section in a qualitative way.

71st Independence Day was celebrated by Odisha State BSG at State Headquarters by hoisting National Flag followed by National Anthem. One platoon of junior and one platoon of senior Scouts & Guides have received Chief Ministers` running shield from Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Naveen Pattnaik. The Independence Day was celebrated by scouts and guides of all districts.

This year while observing this Raksha Bandhan day on 07.08.2017, 250 Guides and Rangers from different schools and colleges of Bhubaneswar assembled at Headquarters campus for the purpose. A group of Guides tied Rakhi to prisoners inside the special jail of Bhubaneswar. Some Guides tied Rakhi to the trees for creating awareness to save trees for Healthy Environment.

The Odisha State Bharat Scouts and Guides in collaboration with “The Odisha Bhaskar” Daily Odiya News Paper created patriotic atmosphere in the Exhibition Ground, Bhubaneswar by organising “Maa Tujhe Salam” covering all the districts of the state to bring awareness among people of Odisha on “Indian Army”, the theme of “One Voice One Nation” with 250 participants.

Odisha State Bharat Scouts and Guides observed Sadbhavana Diwas at State Headquarters premises with 157 participants.

Punjab Scouts and Guides Unit of Sheela Rani Tangri D.A.V. Public School,Bilga celebrated 71st Independence Day with great enthusiasm. Students recited poems and delivered speeches on the importance of 15th August. A cultural programme was also organised. National song was sung by the students carrying tricolour in their hands.

Sikkim Members of Sikkim State Bharat Scouts and Guides observed ‘World Scarf Day’ in a befitting manner at a simple ceremony on 1st August, 2017. Scouts and Guides from different parts of each district association of Sikkim State participated in the 71 st Independence Day Parade on 15th August, 2017.

Eighth State Rally for the Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers was conducted at Himalayan Home, Khani Khola, Majhitar, Rangpo, East Sikkim from July 4 to 6, 2017 with 100 participants. Dr. H.P. Chhetri, State Chief Commissioner was the Chief Guest in the grand camp fire.

Southern Railway STATE LEVEL ADVENTURE PROGRAMME for Sr. Scouts, Sr. Guides, Rovers, Rangers and Young Adult Leaders was organised to commemorate the International year of Sustainable Tourism for Development at Neelakurinji Camping Centre, Ketti from 27th to 30th July, 2017 in which 211 participants participated.

Dr. H. Srinivas, State Chief Commissioner and Chief Personnel Officer/Industrial Relations was warmly felicitated on 31.07.2017 at Southern Railway Headquarters, Chennai.

Uttarakhand Plantation of saplings was organized in GIC Ratura, Distt. Rudraprayag by the Pratap Scout Dal from 11th to 15th August, 2017 in which 26 Scouts participated along with 200 others students and local people.

Rajyapuraskar Testing Camp for Scouts was conducted at STC, Training Centre, Jeedimetla, Anddhra Pradesh in which 35 Scouts participated. Nipun Testing Camp for Rovers was also conducted in which 12 Rovers participants.

Tamilnadu Chaturtha Charan and Heerakh Pankh Testing Camps of Maharishi District were conducted at Maharishi Vidya Mandirs Campsite Zone-I from 18th to 19th August 2017 in which 182 Cubs, Bulbuls and 15 Scouters, Guiders participants took part.

Tamilnadu Bharat Scouts and Guides celebrated Independence Day at State Headquarters on 15th August, 2017 with 700 Scouts and Guides participated. The Director of School Education Dr. Elangovan was the Chief Guest and hoisted the National Flag.

Rajyapuraskar Scouts and Guides Testing Camp was conducted in which 273 Scouts and Guides participated.

West Bengal Bharat Scouts and Guides, West Bengal, Barrack pore District Association organised their 49th Annual District Camp at Khodri, Chhattisgarh from 15th to 20th August, 2017 in which 108 Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers and Adult Leaders participated.

A very new and challenging event Cub Olympiad, just like the real Olympics and other famous sports meets was organised by Bharat Scouts and Guides, West Bengal. It was a pleasant surprise to everyone, a gorgeous event like this, unbelievable. The meet took place at the shore of Ichamati, Taki, Hasnabad on & from 12th to 14th August, 2017. More than 100 participants including Cubs, Unit Leaders and Service Team participated. The inaugural function was chaired by Shri Dipendu Biswas, M.L.A. and D.C.C. of North 24 Parganas; Mrs. Manisha Mukherjee, Headmistress of the school and other dignitaries of West Bengal were also present. Shri Shyamal Kr. Biswas, State Commissioner (S), embellished the event with his kind presence on 13th of August, 2017. Shri Probodh Ranjan Biswas, S.O.C. (S), Shri Pallab Basu, State Secretary, Shri Kaushik Chatterjee, H.Q.C. (S) were present throughout the event and made it successful.

Western Railway The Bharat Scouts and Guides Western Railway State celebrated Independence Day by conducting various programmes such as March Past, renewal of Scout/Guide Promise, Social Services at Hospital and Community Center, Community Singing Programmes etc. successfully.

District Association Vadodara organized District Level Dwitiya Sopan and Nipun Testing Camp at Pratapnagar Scout Den, Vadodara from 11th to 15th August, 2017 iwith 80 participants.

District Association Dahod organized District Level Dwitiya Sopan and Nipun Camp at District Scout Den, Dahod from 25th to 27th August, 2017 in which 32 Scouts/Guides/Rovers/Rangers and Staff participated.

Scouts and Guides of the District Association Rajkot participated in a Service Camp on the occasion of “Tarnater Fair” at Than from 25th to 27th August, 2017. The rally was flagged off by Shri L. N. Dhama, Dy. CME and Vice President of DHD District Association.
