The La Laguna Ranch originated as a Mexican Land Grant in the mid 1800’s. This is a major ranch holding with a combination of actively farmed ground of approx. 550 acres with a water system that provides water to all of the currently farmed fields and an additional 420 acres of land that can be planted for vineyard or a possible expansion of the farm ground. The ranch is nearly 4,000 acres in total and is also an active cattle ranch. Rancho La Laguna includes up to 421 acres of ground suitable for development to premier Santa Barbara County vineyards as mapped by Mesa Vineyard Management. That scale provides a unique opportunity for development and efficiency for farming.

The plantable vineyard-land is ideally oriented as a series of gently rolling hillsides from 1--30% slope with also a handful of high-elevation, small block sites that would be ideal for ultra-premium boutique vineyard blocks. There are a wide variety of soils mapped across the ranch but the most prominent on the vineyard-land appears to be Chamise shaly loam. Elevation for the blocks ranges from 1150'-1650' with varying aspects allowing for diverse mix of vineyard orientations.

The western portion of the ranch falls within the Santa Maria AVA, well-known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay prowess, while the rest of the ranch falls within the greater Central Coast AVA.

Located on Foxen Canyon Rd, the ranch is surrounded by premium wine procuders including Zaca Mesa, Fess Parker Winery & Vineyard, Firestone Vineyard, Koehler Winery, Andrew Murray Vineyards and Demetria Estate and Vineyards. WATER

Rancho La Laguna includes (2) producing agricultural wells as well as (1) ag well currently not in use.

In addition to the agricultural wells, there are (2) domestic wells that serve the farmstead and various cattle troughs on the western side of the ranch. Finally, there are several old wells located along Foxen Creek than have not been operated for decades.

Distribution: Water from domestic wells is pumped to storage tanks in the hills above the farmstead for disbursement. The infrastructure, including additional storage and pressure tanks provides access to water across much of the ranch as needed.

SGMA: The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) requires local agencies to form groundwater sustainability agencies (GSAs) for the high and medium proirity basins. GSAs develop and implement groundwater sustainability plans (GSPs) to avoid undesirable results and mitigate overdraft within 20 years.
