Spanning nearly 4,000 acres on the Central Coast lies the majestic Rancho La Laguna. The ranch has an authentic ruggedness reminiscent of the old west but an economic vibrance driven by a modern farming operation of exceptional scale. Though it feels like a step back in time, this extraordinary ranch is set in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country providing access to all the modern0day sophistication and culture that affords.
Rancho La Laguna’s natural beauty is highlighted by soaring plateaus, scattered oaks and woodland, meandering creeks, abundant wildlife and thousands of acres of recreational land to explore.
Beyond the untamed wild, the ranch is rooted in a history of farming and cattle-ranching. Today, it is home to a modern commercial farming operation with up to 550 acres of Prime Farmland and another 420 acres of potentially premium coastal vineyard land. This operation is supported by significant agricultural infrastructure including a vast interior road network, plentiful water resources, and a handful of barns and outbuildings. The economic opportunity this farm and vineyard-land provides is at a scale rarely found in today’s market.
While exceptionally private, this stunning ranch is a stone’s throw away from Los Olivos – rated “America’s Best Small Food and Culture Town” in 2023, 35 minutes from California’s awe-inspiring coastline and only an hour from downtown Santa Barbara.
Rancho La Laguna represents an extraordinary opportunity to transform a stunning heritage ranch in Santa Barbara Wine Country into an economic engine drive by its farmland, a highly acclaimed vineyard estate, a private retreat and recreational ranch or a magnificent blend of them all.
BE A PART OF THAT NEW LEGACY!
The La Laguna Ranch originated as a Mexican Land Grant in the mid 1800’s. This is a major ranch holding with a combination of actively farmed ground of approx. 550 acres with a water system that provides water to all of the currently farmed fields and an additional 420 acres of land that can be planted for vineyard or a possible expansion of the farm ground. The ranch is nearly 4,000 acres in total and is also an active cattle ranch. There is an abundance of water with two active production wells used for the farming operation and additional wells, springs and creeks throughout the ranch. The headquarters is set up to manage ranch business and operate the cattle and farming aspects of the ranch, it includes an office, a shop building for equipment maintenance, barns to put hay up and park equipment and a small home for an onsite manager. The vistas from the elevated portions of the property are spectacular, the views stretch 360 degrees for well over 50 miles. There is a road system that is extensive to move throughout the ranch via side by side or truck. The La Laguna Ranch is a one of a kind opportunity located on Foxen Canyon Road close to Los Olivos and the Santa Ynez Valley but far enough away to have your privacy, horses, cattle, farming and a ranch few people have the opportunity to call theirs.

The plantable vineyard-land is ideally oriented as a series of gently rolling hillsides from 1--30% slope with also a handful of high-elevation, small block sites that would be ideal for ultra-premium boutique vineyard blocks. There are a wide variety of soils mapped across the ranch but the most prominent on the vineyard-land appears to be Chamise shaly loam. Elevation for the blocks ranges from 1150'-1650' with varying aspects allowing for diverse mix of vineyard orientations.
The western portion of the ranch falls within the Santa Maria AVA, well-known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay prowess, while the rest of the ranch falls within the greater Central Coast AVA.
Located on Foxen Canyon Rd, the ranch is surrounded by premium wine procuders including Zaca Mesa, Fess Parker Winery & Vineyard, Firestone Vineyard, Koehler Winery, Andrew Murray Vineyards and Demetria Estate and Vineyards. In addition to these vertically integrated vineyard and wine producers located in the neighborhood, the ranch is also a short jaunt from the acclaimed food and wine hamlets of Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and Los Alamos.
As Santa Barbara County agricultural production has thrived, Rancho La Laguna is no exception. The ranch currently has approximately 550 acres of prime farmland. The acreage currently produces a diverse mix of high quality rotational vegetables.
Just south of the world-renowned Santa Maria Valley, Rancho La Laguna offers an enticing landscape for farmers. Positioned at the heart of the state, this strategic location provides advantageous distribution opportunities for agricultural produce. With its temperate Mediterranean climate and fertile soils, this region offers ideal conditions for diverse farming ventures.
Rancho La Laguna includes (2) producing agricultural wells as well as (1) ag well currently not in use.
In addition to the agricultural wells, there are (2) domestic wells that serve the farmstead and various cattle troughs on the western side of the ranch. Finally, there are several old wells located along Foxen Creek than have not been operated for decades.
Distribution: Water from domestic wells is pumped to storage tanks in the hills above the farmstead for disbursement. The infrastructure, including additional storage and pressure tanks provides access to water across much of the ranch as needed.
SGMA: The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) requires local agencies to form groundwater sustainability agencies (GSAs) for the high and medium proirity basins. GSAs develop and implement groundwater sustainability plans (GSPs) to avoid undesirable results and mitigate overdraft within 20 years. All buyers should be advised and satisfy themselves as to any potential impacts to the property from SGMA. For more information, please visit the SGMA website at www.sgma.water.ca.gov.
Rancho La Laguna falls within portions of both the San Antonio Creek Valley and Santa Ynez River Valley Basins.
