Understanding Facial Hair
There are two types of hair growth on our body: vellus hair and terminal hair. Vellus hair is fine, soft, and colorless and covers most parts of our body except the lips, palms, and soles of the feet. It grows from shallow follicles and is often considered undesirable by some people.
Terminal hair, on the other hand, is thicker, pigmented, and has welldeveloped follicles. It starts as peach fuzz, then grows longer and coarser with time. Terminal hair is found on the scalp, eyebrows, underarms, pubic area, and other body parts.

During puberty, hormonal changes cause vellus hair to be replaced by terminal hair in certain areas. This is why men develop beards and excess body hair; men and women have pubic and underarm hair.
Once hair becomes terminal, it doesn't revert to vellus hair, except in cases of male pattern baldness. Terminal hair remains terminal hair throughout our lives.
Before performing dermaplaning, it's necessary to remove terminal hair. This can be done through waxing or threading before the treatment.
