It could be a cup of tea from the same mug every morning, meeting friends, going for a walk, gardening, fixing a bike, taking a break, volunteering or singing loudly without caring what the neighbours may think. The independent think-and-do tank New Economics Foundation (NEF) summarised this in the Five Ways To Well-Being. These are a set of actions which promote people’s well-being. They are: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. These activities are simple things individuals can do, however they like, to improve their well-being in daily life.

Bobby Baker’s acclaimed Diary Drawings form the basis of this collaboration between Daily Life Ltd, Brighton-based artist Jake Spicer and local arts and mental health groups. Bobby began her Diary Drawings in 1997 when she became a patient at a day centre. Originally private, they gradually became a way for her to communicate complex thoughts and emotions to her family, friends and professionals. The drawings cover Bobby’s experiences of day hospitals, acute psychiatric wards, ‘crisis’ teams and a variety of treatments. They chart the ups and downs of her recovery, family life, work as an artist, breast cancer and just how funny all this harrowing stuff can be.

Love Is A Strange Game This short road-movie Love Is A Strange Game, which precedes Silver Linings Playbook, was submitted to this year’s Oska Bright International Film Festival. Love is a Strange Game is a taste of the new album Do Not Call from German band KundeKoenig and the music tells the story of one woman’s reminiscing on life, love and loss. Oska Bright is an initiative of local charity Carousel that promotes the active involvement of people with learning disabilities in the arts.

SUPPORT AND RESOURCES in brighton & hove Bobby Baker’s acclaimed Diary Drawings form the basis of this collaboration between Daily Life Ltd, Brighton-based artist Jake Spicer and local arts and mental health groups.

Love Is A Strange Game

DE

We all have a few things that help us maintain our happiness and wellbeing in our daily lives.

Russell (I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter) directs this gloriously dark, quirky comedy about a bipolar ex-teacher adapting to life after a stint in a psychiatric hospital. Pat (Cooper) is struggling to rejoin the real world since moving back in with his long-suffering parents, and is desperately trying to rekindle his relationship with his ex-wife after a manic episode landed him in an institution. But when he meets the mysterious Tiffany (Lawrence), a widow with problems of her own, the chance of a brighter future seems possible. Can Pat overcome his demons and start a new life? We all have a few things that help us maintain our happiness and wellbeing in our daily lives. These activities are simple things individuals can do, however they like, to improve their well-being in daily life.

five to collect If you unfold this page you will see that this is not just a programme but an amazing poster with a fantastic collection of images created during the drawing workshops with local mental health groups. There are five different versions, make sure you collect them all.

From 1st – 28th October 20 banners will be displayed on lamp-posts across Brighton’s city centre, featuring 40 eye-catching images created during the drawing workshops with local mental health groups. The images highlight people’s diverse experience of mental health and well-being and give a public platform for voices that are rarely heard. Why not go for a stroll along Queen’s Road or around Grand Parade and Old Steine and see if you can catch sight of them?

WATERLOO STREET

Throughout August local artist and drawing tutor Jake Spicer led day-long workshops with local mental health groups. Using a selection of Bobby Baker’s Diary Drawings as a starting point, participants could reflect – as Bobby has – on what terms such as ‘wellbeing’, ‘wellness’, ‘wellbeing zones’ and the like really mean.

SUPPORT AND RESOURCES in brighton & hove We all have a few things that help us maintain our happiness and wellbeing in our daily lives.

Director: David O. Russell. Starring: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Julia Stiles.
